A total of 187 Salmonella isolates representing 82 serotypes recovered from 4072 imported foods in the year 2000 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration field laboratories were tested for their susceptibility to 17 antimicrobials of human and veterinary importance. Fifteen (8%) isolates were resistant to at least one antimicrobial, and five (2.7%) were resistant to three or more antimicrobials. Most of the isolates (n=9) exhibited resistance to tetracycline. Four isolates from catfish or tilapia from Taiwan or Thailand also demonstrated resistance to nalidixic acid. These nalidixic acid-resistant Salmonella isolates possessed a point mutation at the Ser83 or Asp87 position in DNA gryase, resulting in amino acid substitutions to phenylalanine, tyrosine, or asparagine. One Salmonella Derby isolated from frozen anchovies imported from Cambodia was resistant to six antimicrobials including ampicillin, amoxicillin/clavulanic acid, chloramphenicol, sulfamethoxazole, tetracycline, and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole. Of seven isolates displaying resistance to sulfonamides, only one S. Derby and one Salmonella Agona contained class 1 integrons that were further shown to possess the aadA and pse-1 genes conferring resistance to streptomycin and ampicillin, respectively. This study indicates that antimicrobial-resistant Salmonella are present in imported foods, primarily of seafood origin, and stresses the need for continued surveillance of foodborne zoonotic bacterial pathogens from imported foods entering the United States.  相似文献

Thermochemical analyses were carried out for a series of pack powder mixtures for deposition of aluminide and for co-deposition of aluminide and silicide coatings on -TiAl by the pack cementation process. Based on the results obtained, experimental studies were undertaken to identify optimum pack powder mixtures for depositing adherent and coherent aluminide and silicide coatings. Pack powder mixtures activated by 2 wt% AlCl3 was used to aluminise -TiAl at 1000°C. With proper control of pack compositions and coating conditions, an aluminide coating of TiAl3 with a coherent structure free from microcracking was deposited on the substrate surface via inward diffusion of aluminium. The results of thermochemical calculations indicated that co-deposition of Al and Si is possible with CrCl3 · 6H2O and AlCl3 activated pack powders containing elemental Al and Si as depositing sources. Experimental results obtained at 1100°C revealed that CrCl3 · 6H2O is not suitable for use as an activator for co-depositing aluminide and silicide coatings on -TiAl. It caused a significant degree of degradation instead of coating deposition to the substrate. However, adherent coatings with excellent structural integrity consisting of an outer TiSi4 layer and an inner TiAl3 layer were successfully co-deposited at 1100°C and 1000°C using pack powder mixtures activated by AlCl3. IT is suggested that such coatings were formed via a sequential deposition mechanism through inward diffusion of aluminium and silicon. Discussion is presented on the issues that need to be considered to ensure the deposition of aluminide and silicide coatings with coherent structure free from microcracking on -TiAl by the pack cementation process.  相似文献

This article presents a tutorial survey of some of the recent results on intervention in the context of probabilistic gene regulatory networks, which, owing to their original binary formulation and their usual application using binary and ternary gene-expression quantization, are generically called probabilistic Boolean networks (PBNs). These are essentially probabilistic generalizations of the standard Boolean networks introduced by Kauffman that allow the incorporation of uncertainty into the intergene relationships. Given a PBN, the transition from one state to the next takes place in accordance with certain transition probabilities and their dynamics, and hence intervention can be studied in the context of homogeneous Markov chains with finite state spaces  相似文献

The heterogeneous integration of InSb quantum well transistors onto silicon substrates is investigated for the first time. 85 nm gate length FETs with fT = 305 GHz at Vds = 0.5 V and DC performance suitable for digital logic are demonstrated on material with a buffer just 1.8 mum thick. An initial step towards integrating InSb FETs with mainstream Si CMOS for high-speed energy-efficient logic applications has been achieved.  相似文献

Immature human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV‐1) is approximately spherical, but is constructed from a hexagonal lattice of the Gag protein. As a hexagonal lattice is necessarily flat, the local symmetry cannot be maintained throughout the structure. This geometrical frustration presumably results in bending stress. In natural particles, the stress is relieved by incorporation of packing defects, but the magnitude of this stress and its significance for the particles is not known. In order to control this stress, we have now assembled the Gag protein on a quasi‐spherical template derived from bacteriophage P22. This template is monodisperse in size and electron‐transparent, enabling the use of cryo‐electron microscopy in structural studies. These templated assemblies are far less polydisperse than any previously described virus‐like particles (and, while constructed according to the same lattice as natural particles, contain almost no packing defects). This system gives us the ability to study the relationship between packing defects, curvature and elastic energy, and thermodynamic stability. As Gag is bound to the P22 template by single‐stranded DNA, treatment of the particles with DNase enabled us to determine the intrinsic radius of curvature of a Gag lattice, unconstrained by DNA or a template. We found that this intrinsic radius is far larger than that of a virion or P22‐templated particle. We conclude that Gag is under elastic strain in a particle; this has important implications for the kinetics of shell growth, the stability of the shell, and the type of defects it will assume as it grows.  相似文献

The present study highlights application of Taguchi’s robust design coupled with fuzzy based desirability function approach for optimizing multiple bead geometry parameters of submerged arc weldment. Fuzzy inference system has been adapted to avoid uncertainly, imprecision and vagueness in experimentation as well as in data analysis by traditional Taguchi based optimization approach. Detailed methodology and unique features of the proposed method has been highlighted through a case study. Following the assertion of Westwater, on the consideration of the radiometer operating frequency around 22GHz for remote sensing of water vapour distribution in the atmosphere, a comprehensive study has been made to re-examine the validity of considering frequency away from resonant frequency for both dry locations, like Antarctica and for tropical region, Calcutta. Radiosonde data have been utilized to calculate line shape functions and weightingfunctions at different operating frequencies. Results indicate that water vapour sensitive 22·235 GHz is still better for dry climatic regions like Antarctica, whereas, for wet air locations, choice of frequency will be different from the resonance peak.  相似文献

Steam oxidation resistance and thermal stability were studied at 650 °C for a coating with an outer Ni2Al3 layer and an inner Fe2Al5 layer formed on P92 steel surface. The parabolic rate law of oxidation was obeyed only in less than 2000 h with positive deviations occurring at longer oxidation times. The outer layer of the coating was transformed to NiAl during oxidation, but it remained stable once it was formed. The mechanisms for the enhanced thermal stability were discussed and a simple approach to enhancing the lifetime of the coating was proposed.  相似文献

A comprehensive poromechanics-based modeling framework that can be used to model transport and deformation in food materials under a variety of processing conditions and states (rubbery or glassy) has been developed. Simplifications to the model equations have been developed, based on driving forces for deformation (moisture change and gas pressure development) and on the state of food material for transport. The framework is applied to two completely different food processes (contact heating of hamburger patties and drying of potatoes). The modeling framework is implemented using total Lagrangian mesh for solid momentum balance and Eulerian mesh for transport equations, and validated using experimental data. Transport in liquid phase dominates for both the processes, with hamburger patty shrinking with moisture loss for all moisture contents, while shrinkage in potato stops below a critical moisture content.  相似文献
