The multilevel modulation techniques of 64-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) and 64-differential amplitude and phase-shift keying (DAPSK) have been proposed in combination with the orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) scheme for digital terrestrial video broadcasting (DTVB). With this system a data rate of 34 Mb/s can be transmitted over an 8-MHz radio channel. A comparison of these modulation methods in the uncoded case has been presented by Engels and Rohling (see European Trans. Telecommun., vol.6, p.633-40, 1995). The channel coding scheme proposed for DTVB by Schafer (see Proc. Int. Broadcasting Convention, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, p.79-84, 1995) consists of an inner convolutional code concatenated with an outer Reed-Solomon (RS) code. In this paper the performance of the convolutional codes is analyzed for the two modulation techniques. This analysis includes soft decision Viterbi (1971) decoding of the convolutional code. Artificial Neural Networks (NNs) are used in estimations of oceanic constituents from simulated data for the Mechron Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) instrument system for Case II water applications. The simulation includes the effects of oceanic substances such as algal related chlorophyll, non-chlorophyllous suspended matter and DOM (dissolved organic matter). It is shown here that NNs can be used to estimate oceanic constituents based on simulated data which include the effects of realistic noise and variability models. The advantage of NNs is that they not only achieve higher retrieval accuracy than more traditional techniques such as band ratio algorithms, but they also allow the inclusion of usually superfluous or unused information, such as geometric parameters and atmospheric visibility.  相似文献

Abstract

This article describes the outcome of a collaborative project between the Hong Kong Institute of Education and four secondary schools that aims to promote the development of scientific investigation skills. The project team designed scientific investigation tasks collaboratively with the teachers and provided school-based support when the tasks were implemented. A total of six teachers and 575 students were involved. Data were collected through questionnaires completed by the students and individual interviews with science teachers about their classroom practice after the completion of the project. The findings suggest that the students did not meet many difficulties and that there were positive influences on students’ interest in learning science. The teachers perceived that there were challenges related to raising students’ self-regulated learning abilities, structuring tasks that were at appropriate levels of difficulty, and promoting group cooperation among the students. Finally, the article argues that the strategies implemented in this study were effective, though it takes much time and effort to help students develop self-regulated learning abilities. The conclusion suggests that teachers consider these challenges collectively and proposes a two-staged model for planning scientific investigation tasks.  相似文献

This paper describes the design and implementation of SAPPHIRE – a novel middleware and software development kit for stream programing on a heterogeneous system of multi-core multi-CPUs with optional hardware accelerators such as graphics processing unit (GPU). A stream program consists of a set of tasks where the same tasks are repeated over multiple iterations of data (e.g., video frames). Examples of such programs are video analysis applications for computer-aided diagnosis and computer-assisted surgeries. Our design goal is to reduce the implementation efforts and ease collaborative software development of stream programs while supporting efficient execution of the programs on the target hardware. To validate the toolkit, we implemented EM-Automated-RT software with the toolkit and reported our experience. EM-Automated-RT performs real-time video analysis for quality of a colonoscopy procedure and provides visual feedback to assist the endoscopist to achieve optimal inspection of the colon during the procedure. The software has been deployed in a hospital setting to conduct a clinical trial.  相似文献

In recalling a set of previously experienced events, people exhibit striking effects of recency, contiguity, and similarity: Recent items tend to be recalled best and first, and items that were studied in neighboring positions or that are similar to one another in some other way tend to evoke one another during recall. Effects of recency and contiguity have most often been investigated in tasks that require people to recall random word lists. Similarity effects have most often been studied in tasks that require people to recall categorized word lists. Here we examine recency and contiguity effects in lists composed of items drawn from 3 distinct taxonomic categories and in which items from a given category are temporally separated from one another by items from other categories, all of which are tested for recall. We find evidence for long-term recency and for long-range contiguity, bolstering support for temporally sensitive models of memory and highlighting the importance of understanding the interaction between temporal and semantic information during memory search. Sadistic personality disorder (SPD) has been underresearched and often misunderstood in forensic settings. Furthermore, personality disorders in general are the subject of much controversy in terms of their classification (i.e., whether they should be categorical or dimensional). The Sadistic Attitudes and Behaviors Scale (SABS; Davies & Hand, 2003; O'Meara, Davies, & Barnes-Holmes, 2004) is a recently developed scale for measuring sadistic inclinations. Derived from this is the Short Sadistic Impulse Scale (SSIS), which has proved to be a strong unidimensional measure of sadistic inclination. Through cumulative scaling, it was investigated whether the SSIS could measure sadism on a continuum of interest, thus providing a dimensional view of the construct. Further, the SSIS was administered along with a number of other measures related to sadism in order to assess the validity of the scale. Results showed that the SSIS has strong construct and discriminant validity and may be useful as a screening measure for sadistic impulse. A model for computing thermal stress inside a crystal with facets is presented. Using a systematical perturbation analysis, a semi-analytical thermal-stress solution is obtained for constrained directional growth with small lateral heat flux. This solution can be applied to crystals grown by various growth techniques such as the Czochralski method. The semi-analytical nature of the solution leads to a much more efficient approach for computing thermal stress in crystals with facets, compared to a full 3D simulation. Examples are given for crystals pulled in a variety of seed orientations.  相似文献
