Thirteen immuno-electrophoretically diagnosed cases of Waldenstr?m's macroglobulinemia are presented in 11 women and 2 men aged 57-60 yr. Abdominal plain (53.34%), asthenia and weariness (46.15%), anorexia (38.46%), weight loss (38.46%), intercurrent infections (38.46%), haemorrhage (30.76%), and loss of vision (30.76%) were the most frequent symptoms. One patient presented intercostal neuritis with burning pains that only responded to cortisones. Mean survival from the date of observation was between 3.5 and 14 yr.  相似文献

An ultrasonographic evaluation of the endometrium was performed in 158 patients undergoing ovarian stimulation for an in-vitro assisted reproduction programme. Endometrial thickness was evaluated in 109 patients undergoing in-vitro fertilization (IVF) for female indications and in 49 patients undergoing intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) for male indications. The maximal endometrial thickness was measured on the day of human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) administration by longitudinal scanning of the uterus on the frozen image using electronic callipers placed at the junction of the endometrium-myometrium interface at the level of the fundus. Cases in which the endometrial thickness was >/=10 mm were included in group A; cases in which the endometrial thickness was <10 mm were assigned to group B. The age of the patients, serum 17-beta oestradiol concentrations on the day of HCG administration, the length of follicular stimulation, the number of follicles, 17-beta oestradiol concentrations per follicle on the day of HCG and the number of embryos transferred were analysed in each case. When comparing endometrial thickness and results in IVF and ICSI patients, an endometrium <10 mm predominated in IVF patients (27.5%) compared with those undergoing ICSI (16.7%) (P = 0.05); conversely an endometrium >=10 mm was more frequent in ICSI than in IVF patients. The incidence of pregnancy was higher in IVF group A patients (32/79; 41%) than in IVF group B patients (5/30; 17%) (P = 0.03), whereas no significant difference was found between ICSI group A (13/42; 31%) and ICSI group B (3/7; 43%) patients. Thus, a higher percentage of IVF patients had thin endometrium when compared with ICSI patients; thin endometrium was a prognostic indicator of pregnancy only in the case of a female indication for infertility (IVF). A thin endometrium in cases of female infertility may reflect a previous or present uterine pathology, whereas in indications of male infertility (i.e. cases using ICSI), in the absence of any associated uterine pathology, the presence of a thin endometrium is not predictive.  相似文献

Aeromonas hydrophila secretes several extracellular proteins that are associated with virulence including an enterotoxin, a protease, and the hole-forming toxin, aerolysin. These degradative enzymes and toxins are exported by a conserved pathway found in many Gram-negative bacteria. In Pseudomonas aeruginosa this export pathway and type IV pilus biogenesis are dependent on the product of the pilD gene. PilD is a bifunctional enzyme that processes components of the extracellular secretory pathway as well as a type IV prepilin. An A. hydrophila genomic library was transferred into a P. aeruginosa pilD mutant that is defective for type IV pilus biogenesis. The A. hydrophila pilD homologue, tapD, was identified by its ability to complement the pilD mutation in P. aeruginosa. Transconjugants containing tapD were sensitive to the type IV pilus-specific phage, PO4. Sequence data revealed that tapD is part of a cluster of genes (tapABCD) that are homologous to P. aeruginosa type IV pilus biogenesis genes (pilABCD). We showed that TapB and TapC are functionally homologous to P. aeruginosa PilB and PilC, the first such functional complementation of pilus assembly demonstrated between bacteria that express type IV pili. In vitro studies revealed that TapD has both endopeptidase and N-methyltransferase activities using P. aeruginosa prepilin as substrate. Furthermore, we show that tapD is required for extracellular secretion of aerolysin and protease, indicating that tapD may play an important role in the virulence of A. hydrophila.  相似文献

Recreational outbreaks associated with sprayparks are well recognized, and may be partly due to the engineering designs used for their water reclamation systems are problematic to control. This work is based on an outbreak of cryptosporidiosis linked to a spraypark in New York State, where it was determined, specifically that the spraypad (the main attraction) was the primary exposure point. We first determined the likely dose the spraypad users were exposed to, then modeled the efficacy of the treatment system and used this to inform a Monte Carlo method to estimate the probability of infection and illness for the users of the spraypad. The current treatment system which consists of; two holding tanks, a dual media filter and chlorine injection as well as two design change recommendations were modeled using three independent Markov chain models. Within the current treatment system design the receiving tank for the treatment train is also connected with a second pipe to the spraypad used to deliver the return (treated) water, this return pipe is acting potentially as a bypass for the treatment train. Based on the risk assessments performed it is recommended that the bypass pipe be removed from the treatment system since in doing so the probability of infection and illness were reduced appreciably. Secondarily including an ozone contactor was shown to slightly reduce the risk further and provide a multiple barrier.  相似文献

The degree of UV protection afforded by nano-ZnO in a polyurethane/acrylic clear topcoat was investigated. The influence of nano-ZnO concentration and dry film thickness on the optical properties (e.g., UV permeability and visible transmittance) of the coating was probed using a library of 28 samples that were prepared by high throughput techniques. A model for predicting the UV permeability of nano-ZnO filled coatings was developed and the nano-ZnO loading condition required to block >99% UV radiation was determined to be 2.0 g/m2. This model can be used to assist in the development of coatings and other polymeric systems embedded with nano-ZnO to protect the coating and underlying materials (i.e., substrate) from UV degradation.

This paper presents a 67GHz LC oscillator exploiting a three‐spiral transformer and implemented in 65nm bulk complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor technology by STMicroelectronics. The three‐spiral transformer allows operating with a lower voltage supply, still obtaining good phase noise performance, and achieving a compact design. Measured performances when supplied with 1.2 V are: oscillation frequency of 67 GHz, phase noise (PN) equal to ?96 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz frequency offset from the carrier, power consumption (PC) equal to 19.2 mW and figure of merit (FOM) equal to ?179.7 dB/Hz. Measured performances when supplied with 0.6 V are: oscillation frequency of 67 GHz; PN equal to ?88.7 dBc/Hz at a 1 MHz frequency offset from the carrier; PC equal to 3.6 mW and FOM equal to ?179.7 dB/Hz. Alterations in the metabolism of sphingolipids, a class of biologically active molecules in cell membranes with direct effect on vascular homeostasis, are increasingly recognized as important determinant in different vascular disorders. However, it is not clear whether sphingolipids are implicated in the pathogenesis of hypertension-related cerebrovascular and renal damage. In this study, we evaluated the existence of possible abnormalities related to the sphingolipid metabolism in the brain and kidneys of two well validated spontaneously hypertensive rat strains, the stroke-prone (SHRSP) and the stroke-resistant (SHRSR) models, as compared to the normotensive Wistar Kyoto (WKY) rat strain. Our results showed a global alteration in the metabolism of sphingolipids in both cerebral and renal tissues of both hypertensive strains as compared to the normotensive rat. However, few defects, such as reduced expression of enzymes involved in the metabolism/catabolism of sphingosine-1-phosphate and in the de novo biosynthetic pathways, were exclusively detected in the SHRSP. Although further studies are necessary to fully understand the significance of these findings, they suggest that defects in specific lipid molecules and/or their related metabolic pathways may likely contribute to the pathogenesis of hypertensive target organ damage and may eventually serve as future therapeutic targets to reduce the vascular consequences of hypertension.  相似文献
