Comparative analysis of sharp separation regimes in the distillation of ternary zeotropic mixtures

A comparative analysis of the direct and indirect splits and class-1 fractionation of ternary zeotropic mixtures has been carried out in terms of total vapor flow rate by means of a mathematical experiment. Composition regions in which a certain separation flowsheet minimizes the total vapor flow rate have been found.     

Appearance of an internal tangential azeotrope in ternary systems

An internal tangential azeotrope appears at the “ideality” point of the diethylamine-chloroform-methanol system. The mutual arrangement of K= 1 and 6h = 1 lines at this point has been determined.

The principles of thermodynamic and topological analysis of residue curve maps are formulated, which allow the complete set of residue curve maps to be synthesized using the azeotropic relationship. The results of a computer-assisted synthesis of these maps for the boundary space of the concentration tetrahedron are presented.

The necessity of creating a classification has been substantiated for scalar property isolines diagrams of ternary systems having different numbers of singular points per element of the concentration simplex. The total number of possible diagrams has been determined, and the topologically feasible diagram structures containing two singular points per open element of the concentration simplex have been synthesized.

An algorithm is suggested for determining the structure of the distillation line diagram for fourcomponent mixtures from the geometric development of the boundary space of the concentration tetrahedron.

Nonlocal Properties of the Phase-Separation Diagrams of Multiphase Systems

Relationships describing the nonlocal properties of phase-separation diagrams are derived for multiphase multicomponent systems. These relationships are based on the Euler equation, the correspondence principle, and the rule of contiguity of regions. A classification of phase-separation diagrams is suggested.
