Flame temperatures (T), surface emissive powers (SEP) and irradiances (E) of large-scale JP-4 pool fires (d=2, 8, 16, 25 m) and di-tert-butyl peroxide (DTBP) pool fires (d=1.12 m, 3.4 m) are investigated experimentally and by CFD simulation. As experimental methods an infrared thermographic camera system with video-mixing unit is used for the determination of T, SEP and an ellipsoidal radiometer for the determination of E. The maximum frequency of time-averaged emission temperatures for JP-4 pool fire (d=16 m) are in a range of $ 793\,\mathrm{K} < \overline{T} < 1033$ and for DTBP pool fire (d=1.12 m) are a range of $ 1040\,\mathrm{K} < \overline{T} < 1480\,\mathrm{K}$ . For DTBP pool fire (d=1.12 m), the measurements result in $ \overline{\text{SEP}}\approx 130\,\mathrm{kW/m^{2}}$ which is up to a factor of ≈6 larger in comparison to hydrocarbon pool fires (d≈1 m). In a case of DTBP pool fire (d=3.4 m) with $ \overline{\text{SEP}} \approx 250\,\mathrm{kW/m^{2}}$ this factor is ≈5 compared to $ \overline{\text{SEP}} \approx 50\,\mathrm{kW/m^{2}}$ of LNG pool fire (d=4 m). By increasing the relative distance ?y/d from the pool rim, measured time averaged irradiances $ \overline{E}$ (?y/d) decrease and agree well with CFD predicted $ \overline{E}_{\text{CFD}}$ (?y/d). Also, there is a good agreement between the measured time averaged $ \overline{T}$ and $ \overline{\text{SEP}}$ of hydrocarbons and DTBP pool fires, with the predicted $ \overline{T}_{\text{CFD}}$ and $ \overline{\text{SEP}}_{\text{CFD}}$ values. The possibilities and nowadays limitations of CFD simulation of large pool fires are discussed. This study has shown that the risk potential of accidental pool fires referring to thermal radiation can be predicted much better than in the past.  相似文献

A proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) must maintain a balance between the hydration level required for efficient proton transfer and excess liquid water that can impede the flow of gases to the electrodes where the reactions take place. Therefore, it is critically important to understand the two-phase flow of liquid water combined with either the hydrogen (anode) or air (cathode) streams. In this paper, we describe the design of an in situ test apparatus that enables investigation of two-phase channel flow within PEMFCs, including the flow of water from the porous gas diffusion layer (GDL) into the channel gas flows; the flow of water within the bipolar plate channels themselves; and the dynamics of flow through multiple channels connected to common manifolds which maintain a uniform pressure differential across all possible flow paths. These two-phase flow effects have been studied at relatively low operating temperatures under steady-state conditions and during transient air purging sequences.  相似文献

Lipoxygenase (LOX) enzyme activity and their putative isoforms were investigated during postharvest life in chayote fruit (Sechium edule Jacq. Sw. cv. “virens levis”). Possible associations of LOX with fruit quality parameters are discussed. Five LOX isoforms were identified (SeLOX‐1 to ?5) displaying different activity patterns during ripening and senescence as well as in roots, stems, and leaves. The probable role of SeLOX‐5 as a specific isoform linked to senescence was examined. The highest relative activity of LOX was registered in fruit tissue, followed by leaves, stem, and roots. Correlations were found between LOX and fruit composition variables such as the contents of linoleic (LA) and linolenic (LNA) acids, weight loss, CO2 and ethylene production rates. LOX activity, and LA and LNA concentration decreased from Day 1 to Days 13–17, when early seed germination events became visible, indicating a transition stage between late fruit ripening and early senescence characterized by a deteriorative process.

Practical applications

Detrimental effects on fruit composition variables such as dehydration, weight loss, wilting, and sprouting symptoms, have been reported as the main causes that reduce the commercial quality and shelf life in chayote fruit and prevent their export to distant markets. To the best of our knowledge, the association of lipoxygenase (LOX) enzymes to non‐climacteric fruit ripening—like chayote—or their loss of commercial quality during prolonged shelf life has not yet been described. This is the first study that explores the role of chayote LOX activity in fruit, identifies various specific LOX isoforms associated to ripening or to the senescence process and provides new evidence that supports the hypothesis that putative LOX isoforms might be related to several postharvest detrimental effects on chayote fruit. This information could be useful to food processors or packers to pursue better profitability and consumer satisfaction.  相似文献

Spondias purpurea L. is a fruit native to Mexico, however, it is found as far away as Brazil. It possesses a high commercial potential owing to its sensorial and nutritional qualities and its low cost of production. There exists a variety of ecotypes that have not been characterized and their adequate selection process, according to their strongest functional characteristics, will allow the establishment of improvement programs for this genetic resource. The object of this study was the chemical characterization and the determination of the in vitro and in vivo antioxidant capacity of 7 Spondias purpurea L. ecotypes. Differences were observed in the antioxidant capacity and the content of functional compounds among all the ecotypes analyzed. A high total phenolic content and a low flavonoid and carotenoid content were found, both in the epicarp and in the pulp. In each ecotype, the hydrophilic phase presented up to 40 times greater antioxidant capacity compared to the lipophilic phase. The hydrophilic phase of the epicarp of “Costeña Tierra Colorada” had the greatest antioxidant capacity and highest total phenolic content, whereas “Jocote” presented the lowest antioxidant capacity and total phenolic content. A positive correlation was observed between phenol levels and the antioxidant capacity in the epicarp. Regarding antioxidant activity in vivo, it was observed that in all analyzed concentrations of hydrophilic extracts of the epicarp of “Costeña Tierra Colorada” and in the highest “Jocote” concentrations, they provided thermo‐protection against heat stress as well as a general well‐being to the worm as evidenced by their high mobility.  相似文献

Offshore wind power plants (WPPs) built near each other but far from shore usually connect to the main grid by a common high‐voltage DC (HVDC) transmission system. In the resulting decoupled offshore grid, the wind turbine converters and the high‐voltage DC voltage‐source converter share the ability to inject or absorb reactive power. The overall reactive power control dispatch influences the power flows in the grid and hence the associated power losses. This paper evaluates the respective power losses in HVDC‐connected WPP clusters when applying 5 different reactive power control strategies. The case study is made for a 1.2‐GW–rated cluster comprising 3 WPP and is implemented in a combined load flow and converter loss model. A large set of feasible operating points for the system is analyzed for each strategy. The results show that a selection of simulations with equal wind speeds is sufficient for the annual energy production comparison. It is found that the continuous operation of the WPPs with unity power factor has a superior performance with low communication requirements compared with the other conventional strategies. The optimization‐based strategy, which is developed in this article, allows a further reduction of losses mainly because of the higher offshore grid voltage level imposed by the high‐voltage DC voltage‐source converter. Reactive power control in HVDC‐connected WPP clusters change significantly the overall power losses of the system, which depend rather on the total sum of the injected active power than on the variance of wind speeds inside the cluster.  相似文献

This study aimed to assess the effect of sous vide cooking on the total and resistant starch content, color, and shear force in three potato cultivars (Agria, Agata, and Carrera). Potato strips were also cooked by three common treatments (boiling, frying, and microwaving) to evaluate the differences between the methods. According to principal component analysis (PCA), sous vide-processed cv. Agria and Agata potato strips were grouped with boiled samples, in contrast, cv. Carrera sous vide samples were grouped with microwaved samples. Higher water losses were associated with microwaved potatoes due to the diffusion of water inside the tuber. In addition, a significant decrease in shear force was obtained after microwaving and sous vide cooking (p < 0.05) irrespective of the treatment strength. The three cultivars became less bright, and the intensity of the color decreased; however, variations in the cook value (C 100, min) between treatments did not affect the lightness and hue angle. Regardless of the initial value of resistant starch and the intensity of the cooking process, all of the cultivars reached a final content of less than 5%. From our results, in-pack sterilization may be considered for application in the food industry as a technology that has a similar impact to conventional cooking treatments used on potato products.  相似文献

Biliary atresia (BA) is a progressive fibro-obliterative process with a variable degree of inflammation involving the hepatobiliary system. Its consequences are incalculable for the patients, the affected families, relatives, and the healthcare system. Scientific communities have identified a rate of about 1 case per 10,000–20,000 live births, but the percentage may be higher, considering the late diagnoses. The etiology is heterogeneous. BA, which is considered in half of the causes leading to orthotopic liver transplantation, occurs in primates and non-primates. To consolidate any model, (1) more transport and cell membrane studies are needed to identify the exact mechanism of noxa-related hepatotoxicity; (2) an online platform may be key to share data from pilot projects and new techniques; and (3) the introduction of differentially expressed genes may be useful in investigating the liver metabolism to target the most intricate bilio-toxic effects of pharmaceutical drugs and toxins. As a challenge, such methodologies are still limited to very few centers, making the identification of highly functional animal models like finding a “needle in a haystack”. This review compiles models from the haystack and hopes that a combinatorial search will eventually be the root for a successful pathway.  相似文献

Isothermal amplification of nucleic acids has the potential to be applied in resource-limited areas for the detection of infectious agents, as it does not require complex nucleic purification steps or specific and expensive equipment and reagents to perform the reaction and read the result. Since human and animal infections by pathogens of the Tryponasomatidae family occur mainly in resource-limited areas with scant health infrastructures and personnel, detecting infections by these methodologies would hold great promise. Here, we conduct a narrative review of the literature on the application of isothermal nucleic acid amplification for Trypanosoma and Leishmania infections, which are a scourge for human health and food security. We highlight gaps and propose ways to improve them to translate these powerful technologies into real-world field applications for neglected human and animal diseases caused by Trypanosomatidae.  相似文献

Twenty‐six enological Hanseniaspora isolates were identified by ITS PCR‐RFLP and D1/D2 domain of 26S rDNA sequencing and assayed for exocellular protease production. Based on qualitative data, six isolates, belonging to H. guilliermondii, H. valbyensis and H. occidentalis species, were selected to continue the study. Analytical procedure was optimised, and protease activities were quantified and characterised on the basis of different biotechnological factors. Protease activity was quite glucose, fructose and ethanol content independent, but divalent cation affects activity; these data support that they were aspartic proteases. The effect of 2‐mercaptoethanol suggests the importance of disulphide bonds to maintain the structure of the active centre. Our results show these enzymes could be suitable for using in biotechnological processes at neutral pH, such as cheese, bread and meat industries. This is, to our knowledge, the first work showing the induction process to induce and characterise proteolytic activity in Hanseniaspora isolates.  相似文献
