The variation of moisture content in the biomass materials would affect the quality during the utilization of these materials as solid biofuel. The ability to predict the time-dependent moisture contents of the biomass via modeling can help to devise a better way to store and manage these biomass materials. In this study, pieces of aspen stems were subject to cycles of wetting and drying in lab-scale tests. A lumped mathematical model for simulating the moisture changes during storage was developed and calibrated using the experimental data. With the available weather data (air temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation, wind speed, and precipitation) as inputs, the model was then applied to estimate the moisture content of aspen (Populus tremuloides) during one year of storage in the field. Results showed that, for both uncovered bales and covered bales, the predicted moisture contents and the profiles were in good agreement with the measured in-field results. This lumped model may be used as a first approximation, and applied to estimate the moisture content of aspen or similar woody biomass materials during relatively long-term field storage.  相似文献

The photoluminescence emission of nanoporous anodic aluminum oxide films formed in phosphoric acid is studied in order to explore their defect-based subband electronic structure. Different excitation wavelengths are used to identify most of the details of the subband states. The films are produced under different anodizing conditions to optimize their emission in the visible range. Scanning electron microscopy investigations confirm pore formation in the produced layers. Gaussian analysis of the emission data indicates that subband states change with anodizing parameters, and various point defects can be formed both in the bulk and on the surface of these nanoporous layers during anodizing.  相似文献

Magnetic nanofluid actuation by rotating magnetic fields was proposed as a high‐performance tool for liquid mixing with enhanced micromixing features. A comparative study was conducted to evaluate the mixing index in T‐type mixers of magnetic and nonmagnetic fluids subject to static (SMF), oscillating (OMF), and rotating (RMF) magnetic fields. RMF excitation unveiled superior mixing indices with strong dependences to magnetic field frequency and content of magnetic nanoparticles. The impact of magnetic field types on micromixing was further examined at low and moderate Re numbers using the Villermaux–Dushman reaction and IEM micromixing model. The IEM‐inferred micromixing times were remarkably shorter by nearly four orders of magnitude in comparison with OMF and SMF excitations, and without magnetic field. The proposed mixing strategy is foreseen to complement innovative microfluidic devices with valuable mixing tools and methods for the diagnosis of the coupling between transport and intrinsic kinetics. © 2016 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 63: 337–346, 2017  相似文献

In this study, we report a novel procedure for fabricating internally tapered capillary columns suitable for the coupling of capillary electrochromatography (CEC) to electrospray mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). The internal tapers were prepared by slowly heating the capillary end in a methane/O2 flame. Due to continuous self-shrinking of the inner channel of the capillary, the inside diameter of the opening was reduced to 7-10 microm. The procedure is easy to handle, with no requirement for expensive equipment as well as elimination of problematic grinding of the tip. Several advantages of these new internal tapers, as compared to using externally tapered columns, are described. First, the problems of poor durability and tip breakage associated with external tapering were successfully overcome with the internal taper. A comparison of the online CEC/ESI-MS between external versus internal tapers showed that the latter provides enhanced electrospray stability, resulting in significantly lower short-term noise and very short-term noise values. In turn, the more rugged design of internal tapers allows performing CEC/MS utilizing a harsh polar organic mobile phase, which was not previously successful using an external taper due to higher operating current and electrospray arcing. Next, data on the reproducibility of the internally tapered CEC/MS column using warfarin and beta-blockers as model analytes are presented. For example, when comparing the reproducibility for separation of warfarin under reversed-phase conditions, the internal taper demonstrated superior intraday % RSD (1.6-3.4) as compared to the external taper intraday % RSD (5-6). Last, the applicability of performing quantitative CEC/MS with internally tapered capillaries is demonstrated for simultaneous enantioseparation of beta-blockers. Impressive quantitative results include good linearity of calibration curves (e.g., R2 = 0.9940-0.9988) and limit of detection as low as 30 nM. The sensitive detection of a minor impurity of one enantiomer at the 0.1% level in a major chiral entity buttresses the suitability of compliance with FDA guidelines.  相似文献

Congestion control is one of the main obstacles in cyberspace traffic. Overcrowding in internet traffic may cause several problems; such as high packet hold-up, high packet dropping, and low packet output. In the course of data transmission for various applications in the Internet of things, such problems are usually generated relative to the input. To tackle such problems, this paper presents an analytical model using an optimized Random Early Detection (RED) algorithm-based approach for internet traffic management. The validity of the proposed model is checked through extensive simulation-based experiments. An analysis is observed for different functions on internet traffic. Four performance metrics are taken into consideration, namely, the possibility of packet loss, throughput, mean queue length and mean queue delay. Three sets of experiments are observed with varying simulation results. The experiments are thoroughly analyzed and the best packet dropping operation with minimum packet loss is identified using the proposed model.  相似文献

 Direct quenching and tempering (DQ-T) of hot rolled steel section has been widely used in steel mill for the sake of improvement of mechanical properties and energy saving. Temperature history and microstructural evolution during hot-rolling plays a major role on the properties of direct quenched and tempered products. The mathematical and physical modeling of hot forming processes is becoming a very important tool for design and development of required products as well as to predict the microstructure and the properties of the components. These models were mostly applied to predict austenite grain size (AGS), dynamic, meta-dynamic and static recrystallization in the rods immediately after hot rolling and prior to DQ process. In this paper the hot compression tests were carried on 42CrMo4 steel in the temperature range of 900 - 1100°C and the strain rate range of 0.05 - 1 s- 1 in order to study the high temperature softening behavior of the steel. For the exact prediction of flow stress, the effective stress - effective strain curves were obtained from experiments under various conditions. On the basis of experimental results, the dynamic recrystallization fraction (DRX), AGS, hot deformation and activation energy behavior were investigated. It was found that the calculated results were in a good agreement with the experimental flow stress and microstructure of the steel for different conditions of hot deformation.  相似文献

In this paper, a new method for computing eigenvalue and eigenvector derivatives of asymmetric non‐conservative systems with distinct eigenvalues is presented. Several approaches have been proposed for eigenderivative analysis of systems with asymmetric and non‐positive‐definite mass, damping and stiffness matrices. The proposed formulation that is developed by combining the modal and algebraic methods neither have the complications of modal methods in calculating the complex left and right eigenvector derivatives nor suffer from numerical instability problems usually associated with algebraic methods. The method is applied to a functionally graded material (FGM) plate actively controlled by piezoelectric sensor/actuators. In this system, the feedback signal applied to each actuator patch is implemented as a function of the electric potential in its corresponding sensor patch. The use of this closed‐loop controlling system leads to a non‐self‐adjoint system with complex eigenvalues and eigenvectors. A finite element model is developed for static and dynamic analysis of closed‐loop controlled FGM plate. The first‐ and second‐order approximations of Taylor expansion are used to estimate the corresponding changes in the plate modal properties due to change in design parameters (the displacement feedback gains and the piezoelectric layer thickness in each S/A pair).
