Occupants of buildings typically operate devices such as windows, shades, luminaires, radiators, and fans to bring about desirable indoor environmental conditions. These control actions can have a significant impact on buildings’ performance (energy use, indoor climate). A better understanding of control-oriented user behavior can not only facilitate more accurate predictions of buildings’ performance, but also support the effective operation of buildings’ service systems. This paper describes a study of control-oriented user behavior (as related to systems for lighting and shading) in three office buildings in Austria. The results specifically shed light on the relationships between control actions and environmental conditions inside and outside buildings.  相似文献

This paper investigates the effect of microwave curing on the bond strength of steel reinforcement in concrete repair. Pull-out tests on plain mild steel reinforcement bars embedded in four repair materials in 100 mm cube specimens were performed to determine the interfacial bond strength. The porosity and pore structure of the matrix at the steel interface, which influence the bond strength, were also determined. Test results show that microwave curing significantly reduces the bond strength of plain steel reinforcement. The reduction relative to normally cured (20 °C, 60% RH) specimens is between 21 and 40% with low density repair materials and about 10% for normal density cementitious mortars. The corresponding compressive strength of the matrix also recorded similar reduction and microwave curing resulted in increased porosity at the interface transition zone of the steel reinforcement. A unique relationship exists between bond strength and both compressive strength and porosity of all matrix materials. Microwave curing reduced shrinkage but despite the wide variation in the shrinkage of the repair mortars, its effect on the bond strength was small. The paper provides clear correlations between the three parameters (compressive strength, bond strength and porosity), which are common to both the microwave and conventionally cured mortars. Therefore, bond-compressive strength relationships used in the design of reinforced concrete structures will be also valid for microwave cured elements.  相似文献

The production rate and product quality are two vital concerns for any manufacturing industry. Number of defective items reduces production rate and increases unit production cost. Moreover, if nonconforming items reach to the customers then manufacturer’s goodwill may drastically go down. Thus, quality inspection is treated as an inherent part of manufacturing. In this research, an N-stage serial production line with an inspection station at the end of it is considered to make decisions concerning this issue. On detecting a defective item at the end of the line it is scrapped or repaired at regular workstation or is sent to an off-line rework station for repair. Assuming each workstation produces a single type of defect a unit cost function is developed for alternative decisions on each type of defect. In order to minimise the unit cost of production and determine an appropriate decision for individual defect types, a fractional mixed integer nonlinear programming is formulated. After transformation to a mixed integer linear programming problem it is solved optimally. A small problem from garments industry is described in detail to show the solution procedure with a branch and bound method. Empirical tests with up to 40 workstations are permed to show the efficiency of the solution process.  相似文献

Erosion is one of the most serious problems in various gas and liquid flow passages such as flow in pipes, pumps, turbines, compressors and many other devices. Sand presence causes loss of pipe wall thickness that can lead to pipe erosion, frequent failures and loss of expensive production time. The importance of this problem is mainly due to many related engineering applications, viz. heat exchangers. In order to reduce the frequency of such pipe erosions, caps in the form of replaceable pipes are protruded in the sudden contraction regions which are exposed to most of the serious erosion rates. In the present work, numerical investigation of the erosion of a pipe protruded in a sudden contraction is presented. The turbulent, steady, 2-D axi-symmetric flow inside an axi-symmetric abrupt contraction pipe with a pipe protrusion embedded in it was solved by steady-state time averaged conservation equations of mass and momentum along with two equation model for turbulence. Particles are tracked using Lagrangian particle tracking. An erosion model was employed to investigate the erosion phenomena for the given geometry. The influence of the different parameters such as the inlet flow velocity (3–10 m/s), the particle diameter (10–400 μm), the protruded pipe geometry (thickness T=1–5 mm and depth H=2–5 mm) and the pipe contraction ratio (Cr=0.25–0.5) on the erosion of pipe protrusion was investigated. Correlations for the influence of inlet flow velocity, depth and thickness of the protruded pipe on the erosion rate are presented.  相似文献

Glycyrrhiza glabra, Mint, Cuminum cyminum, Lavender and Arctium medicinal are considered as edible plants with therapeutic properties and as medicinal plants in Iran. After extraction process of medicinal plants, residual wastes are not suitable for animal feed and are considered as waste and as an environmental threat. At present there is no proper management of waste of these plants and they are burned or buried. The present study discusses the possibility of biogas production from Glycyrrhiza Glabra Waste (GGW), Mentha Waste (MW), Cuminum Cyminum Waste (CCW), Lavender Waste (LW) and Arctium Waste (AW). 250 g of these plants with TS of 10% were digested in the batch type reactors at the temperature of 35°C. The highest biogas production rate were observed to be 13611 mL and 13471 mL for CCW and GGW (10% TS), respectively. While the maximum methane was related to GGW with a value of 9041 mL (10% TS). The highest specific biogas and methane production were related to CCW with value of 247.4 mL.(g.VS)-1 and 65.1 mL.(g.VS)-1, respectively. As an important result, it was obvious that in lignocellulose materials, it cannot be concluded that the materials with similar ratio of C/N has the similar digestion and biogas production ability.  相似文献

Accurate modeling is required to estimate the debonding in a plated fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) concrete beam. In the present investigation, a numerical method is developed to model a crack in the FRP–concrete interface. An initial notch is located at the mid-span of the concrete beam. A modified crack closure integral method is implemented to model Mode-I fracture in the concrete. In the present research, a special interface element is formulated to simulate and to predict the distribution of interfacial shear stresses by using drilling degrees of freedom in the nodes of interface elements. Cohesive forces in the nodes of interface elements are formulated by finite element methods. A crack propagation criterion is presented to evaluate when the crack grows in FRP–concrete interface. If the principal stress in the node at the tip of an interface element reaches the maximum shear stress along the FRP–concrete interface, debonding happens. The model is robust, accurate, independent of mesh size, and it is able to model the crack growth in the concrete and debonding of the FRP–concrete interface, simultaneously. The model presented in this study showed acceptable similarity to previous research data.  相似文献

Recently, we have been investigating the development of a superluminal ring laser, where finely tuned anomalous dispersion leads to an enhancement in the sensitivity of the laser frequency to a change in the cavity length, by as much as six orders of magnitude, for applications such as hypersensitive rotation sensing and accelerometry, as well as for gravitational wave detection. For such a laser, as well as other lasers that are used for precision metrology, the effective dispersion – manifested in the manner in which the lasing frequency varies as a function of a change in the cavity length due to the index induced by the medium under saturated gain corresponding to steady-state lasing – is of utmost significance. In determining the effective dispersion, the role of inhomogeneous broadening (IB) must be taken into consideration carefully. In this work, we consider an inhomogeneously broadened gain medium in a single mode optical cavity, and study the effective dispersion experienced by the lasing field. It is well known that the steady state index for such a laser cannot be expressed analytically. Previous studies have employed approximate models to interpret the effective dispersion, in two limits: IB is much larger than homogeneous broadening (HB), and IB is insignificant compared to HB. Here, we use an iterative but quickly converging numerical code to determine the exact behavior of the effective dispersion under all conditions, and show that the results agree with the expected behavior in these two limits. This technique paves the way for taking into account the effective dispersion in any inhomogeneously broadened laser, including the superluminal laser, in determining accurately its sensitivity to change in cavity length, as well as it quantum noise limited linewidth.  相似文献

The Liouville equation governing the evolution of the density matrix for an atomic/molecular system is expressed in terms of a commutator between the density matrix and the Hamiltonian, along with terms that account for decay and redistribution. To find solutions of this equation, it is convenient first to reformulate the Liouville equation by defining a vector corresponding to the elements of the density operator, and determining the corresponding time-evolution matrix. For a system of N energy levels, the size of the evolution matrix is N2?×?N2. When N is very large, evaluating the elements of these matrices becomes very cumbersome. We describe a novel algorithm that can produce the evolution matrix in an automated fashion for an arbitrary value of N. As a non-trivial example, we apply this algorithm to a 15-level atomic system used for producing optically controlled polarization rotation. We also point out how such a code can be extended for use in an atomic system with arbitrary number of energy levels.  相似文献
