The present investigation studys the effects of different electrodes such as copper, nickel, and stainless steel under low-pressure plasma on physicochemical and adhesion characteristics of high-density polyethylene (HDPE). To estimate the extent of surface modification, the surface energies of the polymer surfaces exposed to low-pressure plasmas have been determined by measuring contact angles using two standard test liquids of known surface energies. It is observed that the surface energy and its polar component increase with increasing exposure time, attain a maximum, and then decrease. The increase in surface energy and its polar component is relatively more important when the polymer is exposed under a stainless-steel electrode followed by a nickel and then a copper electrode. The dispersion component of surface energy remains almost unaffected. The surfaces have also been studied by optical microscopy and electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA). It is observed that when the HDPE is exposed under these electrodes, single crystals of shish kebab structure form, and the extent of formation of crystals is higher under a stainless-steel electrode followed by nickel and then copper electrodes. Exposure of the polymer under low-pressure plasma has essentially incorporated oxygen functionalities on the polymer surface as detected by ESCA. Furthermore the ESCA studies strongly emphasize that higher incorporation of oxygen functionalities are obtained when the polymer is exposed to low-pressure plasma under a stainless-steel electrode followed by nickel and then copper electrodes. These oxygen functionalities have been transformed into various polar functional groups, which have been attributed to increases in the polar component of surface energy as well as the total surface energy of the polymer. Therefore, the maximum increase in surface energy results in stronger adhesion of the polymer when the polymer is exposed under a stainless-steel electrode rather than nickel and copper electrodes.  相似文献

Homologues long‐chain chrysin derivatives (LCD, C n: 8–18) were synthesized and incorporated into nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC) with the aim to treat human neuroblastoma. Mutual miscibility and attractive interactions among the NLC components, namely tripalmitin (TP), cetyl palmitate (CP), oleic acid (OA), and the chrysin (CHR) derivatives (LCD) at the air–water interface were assessed by the Langmuir monolayer approach. Optimum combination for the NLC formulations was found to be 2:2:1 (M/M/M) for TP/CP/OA, respectively. NLC formulations, both in the absence and presence of LCD, were characterized by combined dynamic light scattering, electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry. The size and zeta potential of the NLC formulations were found in the range 200–350 nm and ?12 to ?18 mV, respectively. Encapsulation efficiency and release kinetics of CHR and LCD when loaded into NLC were also evaluated. LCD exhibited maximum incorporation, drug‐loading capacity, and sustained release because of its enhanced hydrophobicity. Superior incorporation efficiency and sustained‐release profile of LCD were able to enhance their anticancer activity against human neuroblastoma cell lines, compared to CHR, making them promising agents in combating cancer.  相似文献

We report studies on the effect of volume fraction and surfactant concentration on the kinetics of destabilization of emulsions under the influence of gravity. Model oil‐in‐water emulsions, designed to mimic crude oil–water emulsions, were prepared with varying volume fractions of dispersed oil but nearly identical normalized initial drop size distributions. The gravity separation process was observed by periodically withdrawing samples, and examining the droplet size distribution under the microscope. Experiments were performed for three volume fractions of dispersed phase and two surfactant concentrations (0.4 and 1.6% by weight). At higher oil fractions (20%) and a lower surfactant concentration (0.4%), it was observed that although the rate of coalescence increased, the actual oil separation was delayed. At higher surfactant concentrations (1.6%), the dominant factor in suppressing destabilization is the rate of drop to interface coalescence. © 2017 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 63: 4379–4389, 2017  相似文献

The present report studies on the flow pattern transitions during vertical air water downflow through millichannels (0.83 ≤ Eötvös no. ≤ 20.63). Four basic flow patterns namely falling film flow, slug flow, bubbly flow, and annular flow are observed in the range of experimental conditions studied and their range of existence has been noted to vary with tube diameter and phase velocities. Based on experimental observations, phenomenological models are proposed to predict the transition boundaries between adjacent patterns. These have been validated with experimental flow pattern maps from the present experiments. This paper describes the fabrication, characterization and modeling of fundamental logic gates that can be used for designing biosensors with embedded forward error-correction (FEC). The proposed logic gates (AND and OR) are constructed by patterning antibodies at different spatial locations along the substrate of a lateral flow immunosensor assay. The logic gates operate by converting binding events between an antigen and an antibody into a measurable electrical signal using polyaniline nanowires as the transducer. In this study, B.?cereus and E.?coli have been chosen as model pathogens. The functionality of the AND and OR logic gates has been validated using conductance measurements with different pathogen concentrations. Experimental results show that the change in conductance across the gates can be modeled as a log-linear response with respect to varying pathogen concentration. Equivalent circuits models for AND and OR logic gates have been derived based on measured results.  相似文献

Finding efficient electrocatalyst for oxidation of small organic molecules such as methanol (CH3OH), formic acid (HCOOH), formaldehyde (HCHO) etc. is essential for the development of their respective direct fuel cells. We report here highly dispersed platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs) on carbon nitride (CNx) were successfully synthesized by the ultrasound mediated sodium borohydride reduction of H2PtCl6 in presence of CNx nanosheets. This platinum–carbon nitride (Pt/CNx) composite exhibited superior electrocatalytic activity towards oxidation of CH3OH, HCOOH and HCHO in acid media. The mass activity, onset potential, tolerance to carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning and long term durability for the catalytic oxidation of CH3OH, HCOOH, HCHO on Pt/CNx catalyst in acid media is much higher than that of commercial Pt/C catalyst. The mass activity of Pt/CNx catalyst at ~0.64 V (forward scan) is 310 mA/mgPt which is 2.7 time higher than that of commercial Pt/C for methanol oxidation. The electrooxidation of HCOOH on Pt/CNx occurs via dual mechanism with greatly enhanced oxidation through dehydrogenation pathway in comparison with commercial Pt/C. The mass activity on Pt/CNx at 0.3 V (vs. NHE) is 25 times higher than that of Pt/C for oxidation of HCOOH. The superior catalytic activity and durability of this Pt/CNx catalyst can be attributed to high dispersion of PtNPs and strong catalyst support interaction.  相似文献

We consider the problem of mapping an initially unknown polygon of size n with a simple robot that moves inside the polygon along straight lines between the vertices. The robot sees distant vertices in counter-clockwise order and is able to recognize the vertex among them which it came from in its last move, i.e. the robot can look back. Other than that the robot has no means of distinguishing distant vertices. We assume that an upper bound on n is known to the robot beforehand and show that it can always uniquely reconstruct the visibility graph of the polygon. Additionally, we show that multiple identical and deterministic robots can always solve the weak rendezvous problem in which the robots need to position themselves such that all of them are mutually visible to each other. Our results are tight in the sense that the strong rendezvous problem, where robots need to gather at a vertex, cannot be solved in general, and, without knowing a bound beforehand, not even n can be determined. In terms of mobile agents exploring a graph, our result implies that they can reconstruct any graph that is the visibility graph of a simple polygon. This is in contrast to the known result that the reconstruction of arbitrary graphs is impossible in general, even if n is known.  相似文献
