Non-linear finite element analyses of structures (such as beams) involve construction of weak solutions for the governing equations. While a weak approach weakens the differentiability requirements of the so-called shape functions, the governing equations are only satisfied in an integral sense and not point-wise, or, even path-wise. Moreover, use of a finite mesh leads to a stiffening of the numerical model. While strong solutions obtained through some of the existing mesh-free collocation methods overcomes some of these lacunae to an extent, the quality of the numerical solutions would be considerably improved if the computational algorithm were able to faithfully reproduce (or approximate or preserve) certain geometrical features of the response surfaces or manifolds. This paper takes the first step towards realizing this objective and proposes a multi-step transversal linearization (MTL) technique for a class of non-linear boundary value problems, which are treated as conditionally dynamical systems. Numerical explorations are performed, to a limited extent, through applications to large deflection analyses of planar beams with or without plastic deformations. 相似文献

Cladding is the process of depositing a superior built-up layer by fusion on a substrate. In blown powder laser cladding process, the powder travels across the laser path, gets heated up by absorbing laser energy, and finally melts on the substrate under the intense laser beam; as the substrate moves away this melt pool solidifies to form a continuous built-up layer. The laser energy is partly absorbed by the solid powder during its flight path (termed preheating) and partly by the top surface of the melt pool. In the present study a two-dimensional conduction heat transfer equation has been solved using finite-volume method to model the cladding process. It is observed that preheating allows higher scanning speed resulting in thin clad layer with low dilution. Preheating also permits high powder feed rate resulting in thick cladding with low dilution. 相似文献

The Ward-Dutton (WD) partitioning scheme is used extensively to develop transient and high-frequency advanced compact models in MOSFET analysis. However, it remains an open question if this scheme can be used for field-dependent mobility that is enhanced in state-of-the-art submicrometer technologies. In this paper, after demonstrating that the well-known WD partitioning is indeed invalid for field-dependent mobility, the authors develop a very general partitioning strategy that can always be defined in small-signal analysis for any arbitrary velocity-field relationship. It has also been shown that for large-signal operation, the existence of a partitioning scheme can be determined by the solution of an integral equation. 相似文献

A successful attempt to grow carbon nanotubes (CNTs) by electrodeposition technique for the first time is reported here. Carbon nanotubes were grown on Si (001) substrate using acetonitrile (1% v/v) and water as electrolyte at an applied d.c. potential ∼20 V. The films were characterized by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Raman, optical absorbance, Fourier Transform Infra Red spectroscopy (FTIR) and Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) measurements. The effect of magnetic field on the growth of nanotubes was studied critically. It was found that the presence of magnetic field during electro-deposition played a crucial role on the growth of carbon nanotubes and hence the electronic properties. Photoluminescence (PL) studies indicated band edge luminescence ∼0.72-0.83 eV. Field emission studies indicated lower turn-on voltage and higher current density for films deposited with magnetic field. 相似文献

This paper presents a formal framework, which is based on the notion of a serialization set, that enables to compose a set of consistency conditions into a more restrictive one. To exemplify the utility of this framework, a list of very basic consistency conditions is identified, and it is shown that various compositions of the basic conditions yield some of the most commonly used consistency conditions, such as sequential consistency, causal memory, and Pipelined RAM. The paper also lists several applications that can benefit from even weaker semantics than Pipelined RAM that can be expressed as a composition of a small subset of the basic conditions. 相似文献

This review discusses recent developments in the areas of fabrication, certain types of optical characterization, and applications of a selected class of chemically assembled nanomaterials, namely i) gold and silver nanoparticles deposited onto optically transparent glass substrates; ii) thiol‐functionalized self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs); iii) chemically stabilized gold and silver nanoparticles (monolayer protected clusters, MPCs); and iv) MPCs linked to metallic substrates and adsorbates. Six linear optical techniques for the characterization of these materials are discussed: transmission localized surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy, T‐LSPR; propagating surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy, P‐SPR; polarization‐selective Fourier transform infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy, PS‐FTIRRAS; polarization‐modulation Fourier transform infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy, PM‐FTIRRAS; surface‐enhanced infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy, SEIRRAS; and infrared ellipsometry. The transverse optical (TO) and longitudinal optical (LO) phonons of the asymmetric stretch of the O in SiOSi bridging bond in thermal SiO2 show red shift with decreasing oxide thickness. These shifts are primarily due to interface effects like strain and substoichiometric silicon oxides (suboxides). A method to isolate the contributions of strain and suboxide concentration towards the observed shifts is proposed. The procedure, which utilizes simple optical model and effective medium approximation, allows estimation of the average strain and suboxide concentration in films of different thickness. Analysis of infrared spectra shows that suboxide-rich layers in low temperature dry and wet oxides are confined to a distance of ∼1.5 nm from the interface; wet oxidation may generate lower stress near the interface. 相似文献

A multi-layer perceptron (MLP) network using error back propagation algorithm is employed in this paper to estimate the damage parameters from broad-band spectral data as diagnostic signal. Various existing models of damage in laminated composite and the resulting stiffness degradation are discussed from comparative view-point. Degradation of ply properties can be considered to be one of the damage model parameters while monitoring transverse matrix cracks in cross-ply, splitting in longitudinal ply, and evolution of consecutive stages of damage, such as delaminations and fiber fracture. The stiffness degradation factor, the location and size of the damaged zone in laminated composite beam are considered as damage model parameters in the present paper. Fourier spectral data, which is typical to most of the diagnostic wave measurements, are used as input to the neural network. Since, training the neural network in such case involves many data sets and all of these data are difficult to generate using experiments, a spectral finite element model (SFEM) with embedded degraded zone in laminated composite beam is developed. Numerical simulation using this element is carried out, which shows the nature of temporal signal that are likely to be measured. Analytical studies on the performance of the neural network are presented based on numerically simulated data. Effect of measurement noise on the network performance is also reported. 相似文献

The performance of an idealized step slider bearing with a viscoelastic lubricant is investigated theoretically. The elasticity of the lubricant is characterized by a dimensionless number α. The effects of the elasticity of the lubricant on the pressure, load-bearing capacity, frictional resistance, coefficient of friction and maximum film thickness were studied in detail and are presented in several graphs and tables. 相似文献
