Synthesis and characterization of novel copolymer containing pyridylazo-2-naphthoxyl group via reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization

A novel monomer containing pyridylazo-2-naphthoxyl group, 1-(1-(4-vinylbenzyloxy)naphthalen-2-yl)-2-(pyridin-2-yl)diazene (VBNPA), was successfully synthesized and copolymerized with styrene (St) in N,N-dimethyl formamide (DMF) via reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization using 2-cyanoprop-2-yl-1-dithionaphthalate (CPDN) as RAFT agent. The polymerization behavior exhibited “living”/controlled characters. The obtained copolymer, poly(St-co-VBNPA), with pre-determinable molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution can be used as a carrier in metal ion detection and analysis via pre-concentration technique. The copolymer–metal ion (copper (Cu) and europium (Eu)) complexes were prepared and characterized.     

Synthesis,characterization, and redox and electrochromic behaviors of poly(3-n-octyloxythiophene)

Poly(3-n-octyloxythiophene), a conjugated polymer, which possessed solubility in common organic solvents, was synthesized by electrochemical polymerization in the presence of lithium perchlorate as the supporting electrolyte and sodium dodecyl sulfate as the surfactant in an aqueous medium. Characterizations of the intermediate, monomer, and polymer were performed by NMR spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, and gel permeation chromatography. The process of electrochemical polymerization and the electrochemical redox behaviors were investigated by cyclic voltammetry and the potentiostatic method. A poly(3-n-octyloxythiophene) film that was deposited on a platinum electrode was found to exhibit electrochromic behaviors, and it switched electrochemically between blue–green oxidized and dark red reduced states. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numerical Study of Scale Effects of Ultra-Thin Nickel Beams

Recent experiments have shown that metallic materials display significant size effects when the characteristic length scale of non-uniform plastic deformation is close to a micron. Couple stress plasticity has been developed to explain such phenomena by Fleck and Hutchinson. The mechanical behaviors of ultra-thin nickel beams in different boundary conditions were studied with the hybrid element developed for couple stress plasticity before. Strong scale effects are found when the beam's thickness is close to the material characteristic length scale. Such phenomena will disappear if the beam' s thickness is greatly larger than the material characteristic length scale. The scale effect is the beams inherent property and it does not change with the change of support conditions.

CO毒化AB5型合金分形特征研究

研究了三种贮氢合金 L a Ni5、L a Ni4 .7Al0 .3、Ml Ni4 .5Al0 .5被 10 0× 10 - 6 CO毒化后的分形特征 ,求出这三种合金在含 10 0× 10 - 6 CO的氢中循环 ,分维分别为 0 .2 5 4 7、0 .170 9、0 .0 72 5。可以较好的解释合金被毒化的宏观现象。
