Polymer-based nanohybrid materials were created using sustainable sepiolite clay composed from ubiquitous elements. Although sepiolite is generally recognized as a fibrous natural clay mineral, it turned out to be an acicular microcrystal because of the organo-modification of the outermost surface. Surface modification was performed using phosphonic acid derivatives containing hydrocarbon chains or fluorocarbon chains. Formation of a bidentate bond enhanced the desorption temperature and made nanocomposite preparation possible by melt compounding with polymers having a high melting point. As a result of organo-modification, amphiphilic sepiolite was obtained, and nanodispersion in an organic solvent was achieved. This technology was useful for detailed evaluation of sepiolite morphology. The nanocomposite of crystalline polymers/organo-modified sepiolites achieved uniform dispersion of these nanofillers in the matrix polymer. The introduction of 1 wt% nanofillers did not impair the transparency of the matrix polymer. As a result, a lamellae structure of the polymer developed, the crystallinity increased, and the mechanical properties improved. In addition, the crystallization temperature was improved, indicating that organo-modified sepiolites may act as a nucleating agent. It was found that sepiolite nanofiller with a highly aggregated tendency can achieve a well-nanodispersed state, even in phase-separable fluoropolymers, by applying fluorocarbon modification. POLYM. The formation process of Ba2La8(SiO4)6O2 was clarified using thermogravimetry–differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA) and a high-temperature powder X-ray diffraction (HT-XRD) method. Phase changes identified from the HT-XRD data surprisingly corresponded to the weight loss and/or endothermic peaks observed in the TG-DTA curves. Raw material with the composition Ba2La8(SiO4)6O2 was completely reacted at 1400°C and produced only an apatite-type compound without a secondary phase. Moreover, the synthesis of Ba2+ x La8− x (SiO4)6O2−δ crystals with x = 0–2 was attempted using a solid-state reaction.  相似文献

A mathematical method is introduced to characterize the electrokinetic behavior (electrophoresis) of a biomolecular particle which passes through a specific channel pore on an excitable biological membrane. The basic approach was first proposed by Booth (1950). The system was described by an equation of continuity and an equation of motion in which the driving force involves the diffusion effect, the hydrostatic pressure, and the electrostatic potential. By assuming linear relations between the velocity and the applied electrical field, solutions for the potential, pressure, and velocity were given by a series expansion of the charges on the particle. To examine the influence of ions surrounding the particle and forming an ionic cloud, the Debye–Huckel parameter was introduced. As the thickness of the double layer around the particle increased, the potential, velocity, pressure, and viscosity were changed significantly. The maximum influence was obtained when the radius of the particle became equal to the thickness of the double layer. Although this theory is valid for a charged, spherical, nonconducting particle only, the method is available for evaluating the kinetic behavior of a biomolecule that passes through a channel pore on a cellular membrane.This work was presented, in part, at the 8th International Symposium on Artificial Life and Robotics, Oita, Japan, January 24–26, 2003  相似文献

A miniaturized scanning tunnelling microscope (STM) was fitted in a side-entry holder of an ultra-high vacuum electron microscope. The clean Si(111)7 x 7 surface was observed by both STM and reflection electron microscopy (REM) at atomic resolution. The tungsten tips were often rounded off upon tip-approach with a constant current, through a gentle touch with the sample surface. The apices of such rounded tips had radii of several tens of granometre with widths of about 3 x 3 nm. Atomically resolved STM of the Si(111)7 x 7 surface was obtainable when an atom or an atomic cluster sits on the tip surface. The rounded tips were used for fabrication of Si nanowires by the touch-and-away operation of the tip. The nanowires grew longer at higher substrate temperature and they reached as long as several tens of nanometre at 700 degrees C. The nanowire had many twins and the (111) twin lamellae were stacked in the direction of the wire axis. In another case, the twin planes were oblique to the wire axis so that the (112) direction was nearly parallel to the wire axis.  相似文献

To more completely describe acromion morphology and its relationship to impingement syndrome, we performed three-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging (N = 111) or computed tomography (N = 27) on 132 symptomatic shoulders. The mean patient age was 46.2 years (range, 14 to 86). Four parameters were evaluated: the angle of anterior slope of the acromion in the midsagittal and lateral-sagittal planes, lateral acromial angulation in the coronal plane, and the presence or absence of medial encroachment in the acromioclavicular joint. Twenty-five asymptomatic age-matched shoulders were used as controls. All imaging data were combined because no significant differences existed between the two imaging techniques. The mean acromion angle was 19.4 degrees in the midsagittal plane and 20 degrees in the lateral-sagittal plane. In the coronal plane, 97 (73%) acromions were neutral and 35 (27%) were downward sloping. Medial encroachment was present in 31 (24%) shoulders. Age distribution from the 2nd to 8th decade demonstrated a consistent and gradual transition from a flat acromion in the younger decades to a more hooked acromion in the older decades that was significant in both the midsagittal and lateral-sagittal planes. Furthermore, a greater percentage of patients were found to have downward angulating acromions with increasing age. Ninety-eight patients (74%) had stage II or III impingement. Of these shoulders, 39 (40%) had type I acromions, 51 (52%) type II, and 8 (8%) type III. Twenty-eight of 33 acromions with coronal lateral downward sloping had impingement, and all 31 shoulders with medial encroachment had impingement.  相似文献

A self-administered questionnaire study of 333 workers (male 253, female 80) in a manufacturing company was carried out one month after informing the workers of the results of their medical checkups in 1993. The questionnaire included several items such as recalled abnormal findings of health examination and ways of overcoming the abnormal findings, recalled results of their medical checkups in 1992, self-confidence in their recollection of the results, and the usefulness of medical checkups. The following were investigated: the relationship between actual as well as recalled results of medical checkups in 1992 and the recollection of them after one year, the effects of examinations after medical checkups in 1992 on their recollection of the checkup results after one year, the effects of actual as well as recalled 1992 checkup results on the recollection of the results one month after informing the workers of the results of their medical checkups in 1993, assurance of correct recollection of the results, the relationship between the usefulness of medical checkups, explanation of abnormal findings and the percentage of correct answers to the results of medical checkups in 1993 one month after informing the workers of their results. It was found that the percentage of correct answers to the results after one year was significantly lower than that after one month in 1992. The rate decreased with the increase in the number of abnormal items in medical checkups. Moreover, the rate also decreased when the results were abnormal. Further examinations in addition to the medical checkups influenced their recollection somewhat after one year. The results that the workers still remembered in 1992 had a stronger effect on their recalling the results one month after informing them in 1993 than the actual results in 1992. The workers' confidence in their recollection of the results was untrustworthy in the same way as their recollection of the results, and they were not able to maintain the recollection of the correct results, although many of the workers realized the usefulness of the medical checkups. Our results suggest that explanation of abnormal medical findings in 1993 was effective because the percentage of partial concordance between actual and recalled results was much higher in the workers who received the explanation than in the workers who did not receive it.  相似文献

DFGF-R1 (breathless), a Drosophila FGF receptor homolog, is required for the migration of tracheal cells and the posterior midline glial cells during embryonic development. To define the role of this receptor in cell migration, we have monitored the biological effects of a deregulated receptor containing the extracellular and transmembrane regions of the torso dominant allele and the cytoplasmic domain of DFGF-R1. Ubiquitous expression of the chimeric receptor at the time of tracheal cell migration did not disrupt migration in wild-type embryos. However, induction of the chimeric receptor corrected the tracheal defects of breathless (btl) mutant embryos, allowing the tracheal cells to migrate along their normal tracts. This result indicates that the normal activity of DFGF-R1 in promoting cell migration does not require spatially restricted cues. Late inductions of the chimeric construct, after the normal initiation of tracheal migration, allowed the definition of a broad time window during which the external signals guiding migration persist and the tracheal cells retain the capacity to respond to these cues. Rescue of tracheal migration in btl mutant embryos by the chimeric construct provides a sensitive biological assay for the activity of other Drosophila receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs). Deregulated receptors containing the cytoplasmic domains of DFGF-R2, DER, torso, and sevenless were all able to partially rescue the migration defects. Consistent with the notion that these RTKs share a common signaling pathway, constructs containing the activated downstream elements Dras1 and Draf were also able to rescue tracheal migration, demonstrating that these two proteins are key players in the DFGF-R1 signaling pathway.  相似文献

High pressure oxidation of silicon was performed at an oxidation temperature range of 650 to 800°C for thin oxide films with about 300 å thickness. The index of refraction was dependent on an oxidation temperature but independent of the oxidation pressure as 1.475 at 750°C. The dielectric breakdown strength of the oxide film was measured by the voltage ramping,method. The fixed oxide charge about 1.0 × 1011 cm?2 was also measured from the high frequency C-V measurement. The pulse scanning C-V measurement technique was used to measure the minority carrier generation rate in the depleted surface. The surface generation velocity was slightly dependent on the oxidation temperature and indicated that the fast surface states increased with decreasing oxidation temperature.  相似文献
