In this study, we apply the finite element method to investigate precursor to frictional sliding phenomena arising immediately prior to macroscopic stick–slip transitions in elastic bodies within the framework of a continuum theory. Using a numerical model that mimics an actual experimental system, we study the behavior of contact surface nodes to assess the influence of stiffness, driving velocity, initial conditions, and discretization conditions on the propagation characteristics of microscopic slips. In particular, we show that the initial distribution of frictional stress arising due to the Poisson effect has a significant effect on the propagation characteristics in slip regions. Next, based on the results of a finite element analysis of precursor phenomena that accounts for the influence of bulk compliance, we consider the determination of parameters in rate-dependent friction models. With regard to the behavior of sliding friction, we show that the relationship between friction tests and friction models is fundamentally different from the relationship between material tests and constitutive models for material deformation. We conclude that a proper understanding and classification of friction tests, friction models, and the relationship between these tests and boundary value problems are crucial ingredients in the application of computer-aided engineering techniques to sliding-friction phenomena; indeed, friction tests must ultimately be treated as boundary value problems. 相似文献

Accumulation of nitrous oxide in aerobic groundwaters 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
N2O concentrations in the groundwaters collected in the Kanto District and Nagano Prefecture in Japan and five counties in New York State were determined. These N2O data were obtained from the water samples from wells, springs and seepages from soils in forests and cropping fields. The N2O concentrations in all samples greatly exceeded those of atmospheric equilibration. The average concentration of 690 nM N2O is one order of magnitude larger than that in deep ocean. All groundwaters of the present study were aerobic with a high level of NO3−, but with the absence of NO2− and NH4+, and with a very low level of dissolved organic carbon. These characteristics suggest that the nitrate respiration in the aquifers is of little significance for the production of N2O.
ΔN2O/NO3− molar ratios in the groundwaters were between 10−4 and 10−2 (Δ indicates the excess gas over that which would be in equilibrium). This supports the above view since the observed N2O yield agrees with that reported for the production during an ammonia oxidation. If nitrification was indeed a major mechanism for the production of groundwater N2O, subsequent release of N2O from the aquifers that are polluted with nitrogen may deserve more close attention as a potential source of atmospheric N2O via diffusion and discharge. 相似文献

This study examined the effects of welding residual stress on the compressive behavior and the ultimate strength of the corroded plate. First, welding residual stress was obtained by the thermal elastic-plastic analysis. Then, the change of welding residual stress and the deflection due to the volume loss was investigated by using a newly developed program based on FEM. Finally, the effects of welding residual stress on the compressive behavior and the ultimate strength of the corroded plate were investigated by the elastic-plastic large deformation analysis. As results, the beginning point of the reduction of the initial stiffness with welding residual stress was earlier than that without welding residual stress. Such effect was observed significantly in the case that the volume was lost in the region which has compressive residual stress. Furthermore, the ultimate strength of the corroded plate was reduced by welding residual stress regardless of the plate length, the corroded regions and the reduction of the thickness. In this study, we validated the usefulness of examiners’ forward citations, especially from the viewpoint of the applicants’ self-selection (ASS) decisions during the patent application procedure. We believe that the ASS in an early stage would be decided by a potential-value comparison among patent applications. We focused on six self-selection decision points of the applicants: whether to file patent applications in foreign countries, request for examination, request for accelerated examination, reply to a notification of reasons for refusal, appeal after receiving a decision of refusal, and register after receiving a decision to grant a patent as patent value parameters. We found that application groups that selected “Yes” have a significantly larger number of examiners’ forward citations than groups that selected “No” at all decision points. In addition, we confirmed that applications that were finally granted and those that were renewed for a full term after grant have a significantly large number of examiners’ forward citations. We concluded that the number of examiners’ forward citations would be a useful indicator of the potential value of patent applications in macroscopic analysis. 相似文献

In this paper a unified methodology is presented for the modelling of the evolution of road safety in 30 European countries. For each country, annual data of the best available exposure indicator and of the number of fatalities were simultaneously analysed with the bivariate latent risk time series model. This model is based on the assumption that the amount of exposure and the number of fatalities are intrinsically related. It captures the dynamic evolution in the fatalities as the product of the dynamic evolution in two latent trends: the trend in the fatality risk and the trend in the exposure to that risk. Before applying the latent risk model to the different countries it was first investigated and tested whether the exposure indicator at hand and the fatalities in each country were in fact related at all. If they were, the latent risk model was applied to that country; if not, a univariate local linear trend model was applied to the fatalities series only, unless the latent risk time series model was found to yield better forecasts than the univariate local linear trend model. In either case, the temporal structure of the unobserved components of the optimal model was established, and structural breaks in the trends related to external events were identified and captured by adding intervention variables to the appropriate components of the model. As a final step, for each country the optimally modelled developments were projected into the future, thus yielding forecasts for the number of fatalities up to and including 2020. 相似文献

While the literature is rich with data for the electrical behavior of nanotransistors based on semiconductor nanowires and carbon nanotubes, few data are available for ultrascaled metal interconnects that will be demanded by these devices. Atomic layer deposition (ALD), which uses a sequence of self-limiting surface reactions to achieve high-quality nanolayers, provides an unique opportunity to study the limits of electrical and thermal conduction in metal interconnects. This work measures and interprets the electrical and thermal conductivities of free-standing platinum films of thickness 7.3, 9.8, and 12.1 nm in the temperature range from 50 to 320 K. Conductivity data for the 7.3 nm bridge are reduced by 77.8% (electrical) and 66.3% (thermal) compared to bulk values due to electron scattering at material and grain boundaries. The measurement results indicate that the contribution of phonon conduction is significant in the total thermal conductivity of the ALD films. 相似文献

A molecularly imprinted polymer with immobilized Au nanoparticles (Au-MIP) is reported as a novel type of sensing material. The sensing mechanism is based upon the variable proximity of the Au nanoparticles immobilized in the imprinted polymer, which exhibits selective binding of a given analyte accompanied by swelling that causes a blue-shift in the plasmon absorption band of the immobilized Au nanoparticles. Using adrenaline as the model analyte, it was shown that molecular imprinting effectively enhanced the sensitivity and selectivity, and accordingly, Au-MIP selectively detects the analyte at 5 microM. The combination of molecular imprinting and the Au nanoparticle-based sensing system was shown to be a general strategy for constructing sensing materials in a tailor-made fashion due to wide applicability of the imprinting technique and the independence of the sensing mechanism from the analyte recognition system. 相似文献

0.1%, 0.5%, 1% and 3% Ce doped scintillation crystals based on NaF-CaF2-LuF3 solid solutions were grown from the melt using Micro-Pulling-Down (μ-PD) method. The grown crystals were transparent and their transmittance was approximately 80% for the wavelengths longer than 320 nm. Concerning the scintillation properties, radio-luminescence peaks of the crystals were detected at approximately 330 nm. The effects of 25 ppm boron and of 0.05% phosphorus on the creep behaviour at 550 °C and on the fracture temperature in the constant load fracture test were tested for a 1.5% Cr–0.5% Mo steel. B and P decrease the creep strength, the rupture elongation is increased by B. B and P lower stress relief cracking susceptibility, however, it is increased at low stress. In the B doped material the rate of P grain boundary segregation is accelerated and the level of equilibrium segregation is somewhat higher, the equilibrium segregation is somewhat lower in the bainitic than in the martensitic structure. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Etoposide is a highly schedule-dependent drug. We investigated combination chemotherapy of oral etoposide and intravenous cisplatin for small cell lung cancer (SCLC). METHODS: Fifty-seven patients with SCLC with extensive disease (ED) or limited disease (LD) with pleural effusion registered in the 21 institutions of the Japan Clinical Oncology Group were treated with oral etoposide 40 mg/m2/d for 21 days and cisplatin 80 mg/m2 on day 1 of every 28-period day. The entry period was between February 1992 and August 1995. The actual percentages of patients treated with etoposide were 93.6, 89.5, 92.3 and 96.9% in the first, second, third and fourth cycles, respectively. RESULTS: Nine patients (15.8%) achieved a complete response resulting in an overall response rate of 82.5% (95% confidence interval, 70.1-91.3%). Leukopenia and thrombocytopenia of grade 3 or 4 were observed in 36 (49.1%) and 8 (14.0%) patients, respectively. Anemia of grade 3 or 4 occurred in 28 (49.1%) patients. Nausea, vomiting, anorexia and alopecia were common adverse events. One patient died of hemoptysis due to grade 4 thrombocytopenia. The mean survival time was 47.0 weeks. CONCLUSIONS: This dose and schedule of administration of etoposide in combination with cisplatin are considered to be clinically active. However, prolonged gastrointestinal toxicity of oral etoposide was a problem in comparison with the standard etoposide platinum regimen given by intravenous administration. 相似文献
