Bioaccumulation of synthetic musks in a marine food chain was investigated by analyzing marine organisms at various trophic levels, including lugworm, clam, crustacean, fish, marine mammal, and bird samples collected from tidal flat and shallow water areas of the Ariake Sea, Japan. Two of the polycyclic musks, HHCB and AHTN, were the dominant compounds found in most of the samples analyzed, whereas nitro musks were not detected in any of the organisms, suggesting greater usage of polycyclic musks relative to the nitro musks in Japan. The highest concentrations of HHCB were detected in clams (258-2730 ng/g lipid wt.), whereas HHCB concentrations in mallard and black-headed gull were low, and comparable with concentrations in fish and crab. These results are in contrast to the bioaccumulation pattern of polychlorinated biphenyls; for which a positive correlation between the concentration and the trophic status of organisms was found. Such a difference in the bioaccumulation is probably due to the metabolism and elimination of HHCB in higher trophic organisms. Temporal trends in concentrations of synthetic musks were examined by analyzing tissues of marine mammals from Japanese coastal waters collected during 1977-2005. HHCB concentrations in marine mammals have shown significant increase since the early 1990s, suggesting a continuous input of this compound into the marine environment. Comparison of the time trend for HHCB with those for PCBs and PBDEs suggested that the rates of increase in HHCB concentrations were higher than the other classes of pollutants. To examine the geographical distribution of HHCB, we have analyzed tissues of fish, marine mammals, and birds collected from several locations. Synthetic musks were not detected in a sperm whale (pelagic species) from Japanese coastal water and in eggs of south polar skua from Antarctica. While the number of samples analyzed is limited, these results imply a lack of long-range transportation potential of synthetic musks in the environment.  相似文献

In this paper, the transport characteristics of saliva droplets produced by coughing are examined in a calm indoor environment. Three subjects are studied, with results indicating that more than 6.7 mg of saliva is expelled at speeds of up to 22 m/s during each individual cough, and that saliva droplets can travel further than 2 m. In addition, the dispersion processes of saliva droplets of different diameters expelled during coughing are analyzed using the Lagrangian equation. The results indicate that the transport characteristics of saliva droplets due to coughing change with size. The effects of gravity or inertia on droplets of 30 μm or less are negligible due to their small sizes, and therefore their transport is mostly influenced by the indoor flow field. Droplets of 50–200 μm, which are significantly affected by gravity, fall as the flow-field weakens. Droplets of 300 μm or more, which are affected more by inertia than gravity, fall difficultly. Moreover, the analytical results also indicate that the droplets’ transport is greatly influenced by the spatial relationship between the air-conditioner and the subjects. Finally, based on the experimental and analytical results, droplet infection by saliva droplets due to coughing is examined.  相似文献

Microbial reduction and intracellular precipitation of gold was achieved at 25 °C and pH 7 by using the mesophilic anaerobic bacterium Shewanella algae with H2 as the electron donor. The reductive precipitation of gold by S. algae was a fast process: 0.1–1 mol/m3 AuCl4 ions were completely reduced to insoluble gold within 30 min. The biogenic precipitates were crystalline gold nanoparticles of 10–20 nm present in the periplasmic space. The reducing power of S. algae at 3.2 × 1015 cells/m3 and 25 °C was comparable to that of aqueous citric acid solution (chemical reductant) at 20 mol/m3 and 50 °C. The intracellular recovery of gold is potentially attractive as an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional methods.  相似文献

This study targets environmental load reduction in hot and humid regions. It reveals the effects that porous residential buildings have on the natural ventilation performance and, consequently, the cooling load reduction. Two residential building models, namely a model with a void ratio of 0% and a model with a void ratio of 50%, are evaluated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis and thermal and airflow network analysis. The analysis on components of the heat load indicates that improvements in the natural ventilation performance would significantly reduce the cooling load.  相似文献

Mathematical models of neurons are widely used to improve understanding of neuronal spiking behavior. These models can produce artificial spike trains that resemble actual spike train data in important ways, but they are not very easy to apply to the analysis of spike train data. Instead, statistical methods based on point process models of spike trains provide a wide range of data-analytical techniques. Two simplified point process models have been introduced in the literature: the time-rescaled renewal process (TRRP) and the multiplicative inhomogeneous Markov interval (m-IMI) model. In this letter we investigate the extent to which the TRRP and m-IMI models are able to fit spike trains produced by stimulus-driven leaky integrate-and-fire (LIF) neurons. With a constant stimulus, the LIF spike train is a renewal process, and the m-IMI and TRRP models will describe accurately the LIF spike train variability. With a time-varying stimulus, the probability of spiking under all three of these models depends on both the experimental clock time relative to the stimulus and the time since the previous spike, but it does so differently for the LIF, m-IMI, and TRRP models. We assessed the distance between the LIF model and each of the two empirical models in the presence of a time-varying stimulus. We found that while lack of fit of a Poisson model to LIF spike train data can be evident even in small samples, the m-IMI and TRRP models tend to fit well, and much larger samples are required before there is statistical evidence of lack of fit of the m-IMI or TRRP models. We also found that when the mean of the stimulus varies across time, the m-IMI model provides a better fit to the LIF data than the TRRP, and when the variance of the stimulus varies across time, the TRRP provides the better fit.  相似文献

Our group has focused attention on Ga2Te3 as a natural nanostructured thermoelectric material. Ga2Te3 has basically a zincblende structure, but one-third of the Ga sites are structural vacancies due to the valence mismatch between Ga and Te. It has been confirmed that (1) vacancies in Ga2Te3 exist as two-dimensional (2D) vacancy planes, and (2) Ga2Te3 exhibits an unexpectedly low thermal conductivity (κ), most likely due to highly effective phonon scattering by the 2D vacancy planes. However, the effect of the size and periodicity of the 2D vacancy planes on κ has been unclear. In addition, it has also been unclear whether only the 2D vacancy planes reduce κ or if point-type vacancies can also reduce κ. In the present study, we tried to prepare Ga2Te3 and Ga2Se3 with various vacancy distributions by controlling annealing conditions. The atomic structures of the samples were characterized by means of transmission electron microscopy, and κ was evaluated from the thermal diffusivity measured by the laser flash method. The effects of vacancy distributions on κ of Ga2Te3 and Ga2Se3 are discussed.  相似文献

Cellulose microfibers (CMFs) having surfaces modified with polydopamine (PDPA) and octadecylamine (ODA) were prepared, and their reinforcing abilities for polypropylene (PP) were investigated. The PDPA coating was made via self-polymerization of dopamine (P-CMF), and subsequent alkylation was conducted by the reaction with ODA (OP-CMF). The modified CMFs exhibited improved dispersibility in the PP matrix due to the reduced hydrophilicity. The OP-CMF/PP composite prepared by batch mixing had a higher tensile modulus compared to that for the pure PP and composites with unmodified CMFs. However, excess alkylation lowered the tensile modulus, and the presence of an optimal degree of alkylation was demonstrated. The CMF/PP-IM composites fabricated by injection molding exhibited improved tensile properties compared to those prepared by batch mixing. Both the tensile modulus and yield stress were increased by increasing the CMF content and improved by the surface modification of the CMFs.  相似文献

The partial reduction of TiO2 was attempted by heat treatment and plasma-heat treatment and it was carried out to investigate the photocatalytic characteristics of partially reduced TiO2 (TiO2?x) in the visible-light region. As a result, the plasma-heat treatment shows significantly stronger than the heat treatment for the visible-light photocatalytic activity of TiO2. The red-shifted absorption bands in the visible-light region of TiO2?x by plasma-heat treatment gave broader than one by heat treatment. The TiO2?x by heat treatment and plasma-heat treatment was changed white to beige color, and white to navy, respectively.  相似文献

We show that combination of the Deforming-Spatial-Domain/Stabilized Space–Time and the Streamline-Upwind/Petrov–Galerkin formulations can be used quite effectively for computation of shallow-water flows with moving shorelines. The combined formulation is supplemented with a stabilization parameter that was originally introduced for compressible flows, a compressible-flow shock-capturing parameter adapted for shallow-water flows, and remeshing based on using a background mesh. We present a number of test computations and provide comparisons to theoretical results, experimental data and results computed with nonmoving meshes.  相似文献

The effects of pear vinegar (PV), which was specially brewed for enhanced galacturonic acid content, on the DSS-induced ulcerative colitis (UC) mouse model were evaluated. PV improved clinical symptoms, colon inflammation, and histological tissue injury in the DSS-induced acute UC mouse model. Moreover, PV suppressed inflammation due to acute UC by suppressing the myeloperoxidase (MPO)-mediated activation of inflammatory cells such as leukocytes and decreasing the serum concentration of IL-6. Our results demonstrated the protective action of PV in the DSS-induced acute UC mouse model. On the other hand, commercial apple vinegar did not show a protective effect in the DSS-induced acute UC mouse model. Our findings indicate that PV may act as a new functional food for inflammatory bowel disease patients.  相似文献
