Zero–zero‐birefringence polymers which exhibit no orientational birefringence and no photoelastic birefringence may be suitable candidates for the components of optical devices. To develop zero–zero‐birefringence polymers, a novel copolymerization system is required. We investigated two types of birefringence of poly(N‐methylmaleimide) (PMeMI) and showed that PMeMI exhibits positive orientational and photoelastic birefringence. On the basis of the results, we calculated the optimal composition for compensating both types of birefringence by solving three equations which describe the relationship between birefringence properties and weight fraction of monomers. When the copolymer compositions were MMA/BzMA/MeMI = 86/8/6 and 88/8/4 (wt %), zero–zero‐birefringence polymers were obtained. By using MeMI as a comonomer, these zero–zero‐birefringence polymers have a much higher glass transition temperature (Tg) than those of previous researches. Also, this polymer film has high transparency comparable with that of PMMA film. Therefore, we conclude that we successfully prepared zero–zero‐birefringence polymers using N‐substituted maleimide and that N‐substituted maleimide is a promising material for zero–zero‐birefringence polymers for optical devices. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We simultaneously observed both the fast proton generation and terahertz (THz) radiation in the laser pulse interaction with a thin-foil target.The maximum proton energy of ~2.3 MeV and an intense THz radiation were observed at the pulse duration of ~30fs.We also measured the proton beam and UV harmonics from a thin-foil target by changing the laser pulse duration.In the case of the ~500 fs, peaks of UV harmonics up to fourth order appeared.This unique combination of the multiple beams will provide useful applications such as pump-probe experiments. 相似文献

The torch plasma arc has useful characteristics of high energy and high current. The mode of torch plasma arcs can be flexible, even if the arc is exposed to the lateral gas. In this paper, we measured the input power, heat power, and heat efficiency of the torch plasma arc to the anode in order to determine the current effect on the anode attachment of plasma torch arc with high lateral air velocity, varying from 0 to 80 m/s at a plasma Ar flow rate of 12 slm. As a result, the input power increases with lateral gas velocity such as from about 8000 W to 16,000 W and the heat efficiency decreases with the lateral gas velocity such as from about 50% to 25% at the current I=150 A and appearance plasma length La=1 cm. These results could be applied to providing the electrical power from the ground to high‐speed mobiles, v.v., and to reducing an anode surface erosion by the anode spot movement. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. SF6 gas is widely used in electric power apparatus such as gas‐insulated switchgears (GIS), because of its superior dielectric properties; however, it has been identified as a greenhouse gas at COP3 in 1997, and alternative insulation gases to SF6 have recently been investigated. One of the candidates is CO2 gas, which has lower global warming potential (GWP). However, CO2 gas has a lower withstand voltage level than SF6 gas; therefore, it is necessary to rationalize the equipment insulation level and reexamine the insulating test voltage for electric power apparatus as low as possible. From our previous investigation, in SF6 gas insulation system, we obtained that the insulation requirements of the real surges (called nonstandard lightning impulse waveform) are not as severe as those of the standard lightning impulse waveform. This paper describes the evaluation method for real surges, based on insulation characteristics of CO2 gas gaps. Furthermore, the method was applied to typical field overvoltage waveform in the lightning surge time region for 500‐kV systems and it is obtained that the equivalent peak value of the standard lightning impulse waveform is possibly reduced by 10 to 15%. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. By dividing a water‐treed XLPE sheet sample of 1 mm thickness into a nondegraded region and a water‐treed one, relative permittivity and AC conductivity σAC2 of the water‐treed region have been estimated using an equivalent circuit. The variation of and σAC2 with the length r of the water‐treed region has been discussed based on the Sillars model. It was concluded that the volume fraction of water in the water‐treed layer is in the range from 0.5% to 1.5% for the most‐degraded XLPE sheet, which depends on the ratio of axes of spheroids to which water‐filled voids and channels are compared. It was also concluded that the AC conductivity of water in the water‐treed region ranges from 3 × 10?3 S/m to 2 × 10?2 S/m. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Low current leakage characteristics of a novel silicon-on-insulator (SOI) device are investigated in view of application to a gain-cell dynamic random access memory (DRAM). The device consists of a two-layered poly-Si gate. Since, in this device, the memory node is electrically formed by the gate in undoped SOI wire, no p-n junction is required. The retention is found to be dominated by the subthreshold leakage, which leads to long data retention. The device also achieved a fast (10 ns) writing time and its fabrication process is compatible with those of SOI MOSFETs. A kink mechanism in 660-nm laser diodes (LDs) has been studied experimentally. The experiments revealed that the main origin of the kink is a refractive index change due to heat generation in the stripe portion, and the kink power can be increased by improving the temperature characteristics of the LD. A newly developed LD, based on this result, shows stable lateral mode operation up to 190 mW at 80/spl deg/C. This is the highest power recorded among narrow stripe LDs with a wavelength of 660 nm. This LD is suitable for the next generation of high-speed (8x-) DVD-R/RW drives necessitating 140 mW class LDs. 相似文献

Electrostatic motors have been believed to be weaker than electromagnetic motors which are typically used for mechatronic devices. However, electrostatic motors are preferable to electromagnetic ones for micromechanical applications since their force per volume ratios increase as their dimensions are reduced. It follows that a large output should be obtained if a large number of such small motors with high force per volume ratios are linked and their outputs are aggregated. This paper proposes an electrostatic drive technology which is applicable to such a large-output motor. The element motor, called the dual excitation electrostatic stepping motor, consists of a pair of plastic films, slider and stator. Both films have parallelly located electrodes embedded in them, and the slider moves along the surface of the stator when defined rectangular pulse voltages are applied to the electrodes both in the slider and the stator. The force generation characteristic of the electrostatic motor is calculated by the surface charge method. A prototype fabricated using flexible print board technology weighs 7 g and generates a thrust force of 1.9 N at an excitation of ± 1000 V. © 1997 Scripta Technica, Inc. IgA nephropathy (IgAN) has been considered to have a relationship with infection in the tonsil, because IgAN patients often manifest macro hematuria just after tonsillitis. In terms of oral-area infection, the red complex of periodontal bacteria (Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis), Treponema denticol (T. denticola) and Tannerella forsythia (T. forsythia)) is important, but the relationship between these bacteria and IgAN remains unknown. In this study, the prevalence of the red complex of periodontal bacteria in tonsil was compared between IgAN and tonsillitis patients. The pathogenicity of IgAN induced by P. gingivalis was confirmed by the mice model treated with this bacterium. The prevalence of P. gingivalis and T. forsythia in IgAN patients was significantly higher than that in tonsillitis patients (p < 0.001 and p < 0.05, respectively). A total of 92% of tonsillitis patients were free from red complex bacteria, while only 48% of IgAN patients had any of these bacteria. Nasal administration of P. gingivalis in mice caused mesangial proliferation (p < 0.05 at days 28a nd 42; p < 0.01 at days 14 and 56) and IgA deposition (p < 0.001 at day 42 and 56 after administration). Scanning-electron-microscopic observation revealed that a high-density Electron-Dense Deposit was widely distributed in the mesangial region in the mice kidneys treated with P. gingivalis. These findings suggest that P. gingivalis is involved in the pathogenesis of IgAN. 相似文献
