Dialysis membrane was prepared by a phase inversion method using a new polyether-segmented nylon which dissolves in common organic solvents such as dimethylsulfoxide. The polyether-segmented nylon contained poly(ethylene oxide) block and nylon block (random copolyamide: Ny69/M10) prepared by sebacic acid, azelaic acid, m-xylenediamine, and hexamethylenediamine. The morphologies and permeability characteristics of the membranes were investigated. It was shown by scanning electron microscope observation that the membrane had a fingerlike structure when dimethylsulfoxide was used as a polymer solvent, and a spongelike structure when an additive such as calcium chloride was added to the polymer solution. The high permeability for the solutes such as urea and vitamin B12 were observed in comparison with the polyether-segmented Ny610 membranes prepared by a phase inversion method. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Somatic/embryonic stem cell cloning has made it possible to produce an individual genomically identical to another individual. However, the cloned animals have a variety of abnormalities caused by the aberrant gene modification, with insufficient reprogramming in cloning. We previously reported abnormalities in cloned mice at birth. In this study, we examined what abnormalities could be seen in cloned mice after long-term maintenance. The aged cloned mice showed multiple abnormalities: increase of body weight, some phenotypic abnormalities in the kidneys, testes and thymus, and lower urea nitrogen in their serum biochemical values. The kidneys of all cloned mice were hypertrophied, with a metamorphic or whitish appearance. The multiple lesions, including the enlarged renal pelvis and distension of the renal veins in histology, might be the result of urine accumulation by urinary tract obstruction. The testes of the cloned mice were atrophied, and showed no sperm formation in histology. In contrast, the thymus was rather hypertrophied, and a comparably increased number of lymphocytes were observed in the medulla, consisting mainly of T cells. By conducting a progeny test between the cloned mice, it was confirmed that these abnormalities in the aged cloned mice were not transmitted to their offspring, indicating that the incomplete reprogramming in clones might be in part responsible for the abnormalities detected in aged clones. These results indicate that the postnatal abnormalities observed in aged cloned mice are varied and can be restored through the germ line.  相似文献

An improved synthesis scheme of non-precious metal N-doped carbon catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction is reported. The non-precious metal N-doped carbon catalysts were prepared by pyrolysis of the mixture (phenol resin, Ketjen black carbon support and cobalt phenanthroline complex). The drastic improvement of distribution state of Ketjen black supported non-precious metal N-doped carbon catalysts was observed by means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In addition, the non-precious metal N-doped carbon catalyst synthesized with Ketjen black carbon support showed much higher oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity relative to unsupported non-precious metal N-doped carbon catalyst in O2-saturated 0.5 mol l−1 H2SO4 at 35 °C. Moreover, the highest ORR activity was obtained with addition of optimum amount of Ketjen black carbon support was thirtyfold compared to unsupported non-precious metal N-doped carbon catalyst at 0.7 V. Similarly, the performance of a polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) using the non-precious metal N-doped carbon catalyst as the cathode electrode catalyst was obviously better than that of the non-precious metal N-doped carbon catalyst before optimization. Microstructure, specific surface area and surface composition of the non-precious metal N-doped carbon catalysts were analyzed by XRD, XPS and BET measurement with nitrogen physisorption, respectively.  相似文献

The importance of LCEM (life cycle energy management) has been recognized from the view of life cycle energy savings for sustainable buildings. The purposes of this research are the proposal of an LCEM framework and development of prototype HVAC system simulation tools for LCEM. The heterogeneous decomposition of CHF2OCH2C2F5, a potential substitute for hydrofluorocarbons, over aluminosilica clay minerals in air, was confirmed to occur at 313 K in a closed-circulation reactor. HC(O)OCH2C2F5, the gaseous main product was produced through hydrolytic elimination of F atoms from the CHF2OCH2- group. CHF2OCH2CF3 also decomposed to HC(O)OCH2CF3 over the clay minerals. The pseudo-first-order rate constants were determined for the decompositions over eight types of clay minerals (19 samples). The various clay minerals had different abilities to decompose these hydrofluoroethers. The decomposition rates per Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area and the conversion ratios to HC(O)OCH2C2F5 or HC(O)OCH2CF3 for the reactions over kaolinite, halloysite, and illite were high in comparison to those for the same reactions over montmorillonite, hectorite, and nontronite. The dependence of this heterogeneous reaction on temperature and relative humidity indicates that, in the environment, the reaction could be important only in hot, dry regions. The results did not suggest that sunlight would directly accelerate the decay of CHF2OCH2CF3 or CHF2OCH2C2F5. In the presence of clay-containing soils in arid areas, this hydrolytic oxidation reaction may significantly affect both the lifetime and the degradation products of CHF2OCH2CF3 and CHF2OCH2C2F5 in the troposphere.  相似文献

The WHO Housing and health guidelines recommend a minimum indoor temperature of 18°C to prevent cold-related diseases. In Japan, indoor temperatures appear lower than in Euro-American countries because of low insulation standards and use of partial intermittent heating. This study investigated the actual status of indoor temperatures in Japan and the common characteristics of residents who live in cold homes. We conducted a nationwide real-world survey on indoor temperature for 2 weeks in winter. Cross-sectional analyses involving 2190 houses showed that average living room, changing room, and bedroom temperatures were 16.8°C, 13.0°C, and 12.8°C, respectively. Comparison of average living room temperature between prefectures revealed a maximum difference of 6.7°C (Hokkaido: 19.8°C, Kagawa: 13.1°C). Compared to the high-income group, the odds ratio for living room temperature falling below 18°C was 1.38 (95% CI: 1.04-1.84) and 2.07 (95% CI: 1.28-3.33) for the middle- and low-income groups. The odds ratio was 1.96 (95% CI: 1.19-3.22) for single-person households, compared to households living with housemates. Furthermore, lower room temperature was correlated with local heating device use and a larger amount of clothes. These results will be useful in the development of prevention strategies for residents who live in cold homes.  相似文献

Si3N4ceramics were fabricated by tape casting of a raw-powder slurry seeded with three types of rodlike β-Si3N4particles. The effects of seed size on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the sintered specimens were investigated. All the seeded and tape-cast silicon nitrides presented an anisotropic microstructure, where the elongated grains grown from seeds were preferentially oriented parallel to the casting direction. The orientation degree of these grains, f 0, was affected by seed size, and small-seed addition led to the highest f 0value. This material exhibited high bending strength (∼1.4 GPa) and high fracture toughness (∼12 MPa.m1/2) in the direction normal to the grain alignment, which were attributed to the highly anisotropic and fine microstructure.  相似文献

Little data are available on the role of blood rheology in atherosclerosis in hemodialysis (HD) patients. This study sought to assess the relationship between leukocytes conjugated with platelets (leukocyte aggregates [LA]) and atherosclerosis in patients with HD. The present study included 118 patients on HD. As surrogate markers of atherosclerosis, aortic stiffness measured by brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity, and carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) were measured. As an assessment of LA, a method, microchannel array flow analyzer, which makes it possible to directly observe the flow of blood cell elements through the microchannel, was used. We measured a number of LA during 50 μL flow of whole blood through microchannels. In 12 age-matched healthy individuals, a number of LA during 50 μL flow of whole blood was 25.7±5.4, whereas in HD patients it was significantly increased up to 48.2±16.4 (P<0.001). Flow cytometry demonstrated that LA were predominantly monocytes. Leukocyte aggregates were positively associated with plasma levels of fibrinogen (P<0.01), or serum high-sensitive C-reactive protein (P<0.01). Moreover, LA had highly significant associations with brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (P<0.001) and IMT (P<0.001). In conclusion, we demonstrated hemorheologically that monocyte-platelet conjugates play an important role in aortic stiffness and IMT in HD patients.  相似文献

The effects of foods and chemicals related to food hygiene on degranulation were evaluated using a method for assaying the enzyme activity of beta-hexosaminidase as an index of chemical mediator release from RBL-2H3 cells in vitro. Using a previously developed assay system, we had found a large number of inhibitors and promoters of degranulation of RBL-2H3 cells. In the present study, we examined the inhibitory effect of zinc chloride on the degranulation (beta-hexosaminidase release) from RBL-2H3 cells with or without antigen in the presence of the degranulation-promotive chemicals, namely, 4 food additives, 7 pesticides and 2 veterinary drugs. These promotive chemicals were classified into two types on the basis of inhibitory profile by zinc chloride: 1) those which showed marked degranulation-inhibitory action when the cells were stimulated with antigen, such as butylhydroxyanisole, dibutylhydroxytoluene, EPN, cis- and trans-permethrin, prothiofos, pyridaben, terbufos, 2) those which showed marked degranulation-inhibitory action whether the cells were stimulated with antigen or not, such as butyl p-hydroxybenzoate, o-phenylphenol, bitertanol, salinomycin. In conclusion, zinc had a dramatic inhibitory effect on enhanced degranulation induced by synthetic chemicals in vitro.  相似文献

Crack growth behaviour under static and cyclic loading was investigated using anisotropic plates of PMMA oriented by hot-stretching. Both tests were performed at room temperature for samples with different degrees of orthotropy. A slight increase in the degree of orthotropy considerably improves the resistance to both static and cyclic crack growth in the case where the crack propagates perpendicularly to the hot-stretched direction. A power law relationship between crack growth rate and stress intensity factor may hold for both types of crack growth in the ranges of orthotropy tested. The experimental data for static crack growth were compared with a viscoelastic criterion based on the crack opening displacement theory for fracture. The criterion discussed here explains comparatively not only the beginning of cracking from a pre-introduced crack, but also the crack growth rate in oriented PMMA.  相似文献
