Hollow‐fiber ultrafiltration (UF) membranes were prepared from blends of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and polystyrene (PS) with a dry/wet phase inversion method. Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and N,N‐dimethylacetamide were used as the additive and solvent, respectively. The effects of the PEG concentration in the dope solution as an additive on the cross sections and inner and outer surface morphologies, permeability, and separation performance of the hollow fibers were examined. The mean pore size, pore size distribution, and mean roughness of both the inner and outer surfaces of the produced hollow fibers were determined by atomic force microscopy. Also, the mechanical properties of the hollow‐fiber membranes were investigated. UF experiments were conducted with aqueous solutions of poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP; K‐90, Mw = 360 kDa). From the results, we found that the PVC/PS hollow‐fiber membranes had two layers with a fingerlike structure. These two layers were changed from a wide and long to a thin and short morphology with increasing PEG concentration. A novel and until now undescribed shape of the nodules in the outer surfaces, which was denoted as a sea‐waves shape, was observed. The outer and inner pore sizes both increased with increasing PEG concentration. The water permeation flux of the hollow fibers increased from 104 to 367 L m?2 h?1 bar?1) at higher PEG concentrations. The PVP rejection reached the highest value at a PEG concentration of 4 wt %, whereas at higher values (from 4 to 9 wt %), the rejection decreased. The formation of a novel type of hydrogel that combines chemically and physically crosslinked networks in a dual-network approach is presented here. Chitosan (CHT) and chondroitin sulfate (CS) were chemically modified with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) and then crosslinked. The chemical hydrogels (CHT- and CS-gel) were deposited in different vials filled with CS or CHT stock solutions to form the dual-network hydrogels. FTIR, TGA and XRD analyses were used to characterize the chemical and the dual-network hydrogels. The percentages of CS or CHT complexed to the CHT- and CS-gel networks were calculated from the HPLC data. SEM images and swelling assays indicated that the formation of a secondary network by polyelectrolyte complexation changes the morphologies and liquid uptake capacities of the chemical hydrogels. Hence, the data and discussion presented here enable the formation of dual-network hydrogels with very interesting properties, such as the ability to interact with charged specimens (i.e., drugs, proteins or metal ions), a desirable feature for a wide range of applications. 相似文献

The knowledge of internal moisture profiles which develop during drying is essential for model validation purposes, but they are difficult to determine experimentally. This paper shows that X‐ray microtomography, together with image analysis, provides an accurate, non destructive and easy to use technique to determine moisture profiles. Results reported concern the drying of wastewater sludges whose management is becoming a real environmental challenge. An analysis of the development of moisture gradients at the sample external wall shows an influence of drying operating conditions. Finally, mass diffusion coefficients are estimated from the knowledge of both the moisture gradients and the drying flux. 相似文献

Water-soluble germanium species (GeS2, GeS and hexagonal-GeO2) are generated during coal gasification and retained in fly ash. This fact together with the high market value of this element and the relatively high contents in the fly ashes of the Puertollano Integrated Gasification in Combined Cycle (IGCC) plant directed our research towards the development of an extraction process for this element. Major objectives of this research was to find a low cost and environmentally suitable process. Several water based extraction tests were carried out using different Puertollano IGCC fly ash samples, under different temperatures, water/fly ash ratios, and extraction times. High Ge extraction yields (up to 84%) were obtained at room temperature (25 °C) but also high proportions of other trace elements (impurities) were simultaneously extracted. Increasing the extraction temperature to 50, 90 and 150 °C, Ge extraction yields were kept at similar levels, while reducing the content of impurities, the water/fly ash ratio and extraction time. Oral cancer often presents with aggressive behavior and a high risk of recurrence and metastasis. For oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), which is the most frequent histological subtype, therapy strategies include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, immune checkpoint inhibitors, and EGFR inhibitors. Recently, a Trop-2 antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) has been approved in the United States of America for the treatment of advanced triple-negative breast cancer. However, this ADC has also been tested in other solid tumors including head & neck squamous cell carcinoma. The prognostic impact of Trop-2 has already been reported for several cancers. We studied the prognostic influence of Trop-2 protein expression on OSCC patients’ survival. The cohort comprised n = 229 OSCC patients with available archived tumor tissue and corresponding non-neoplastic oral mucosa tissue. Using immunohistochemistry, we investigated Trop-2 expression in both the central and peripheral regions of each tumor and in corresponding non-neoplastic oral mucosa. In patients suffering from OSCC with combined high central and low peripheral Trop-2 expression, five-year overall survival (OS) was 41.2%, whereas 55.6% of OSCC patients who presented lower central and/or higher peripheral tumoral Trop-2 expression were alive after five years (p = 0.075). In multivariate Cox regression, the expression pattern of high central tumoral and lower peripheral Trop-2 expression was significantly correlated with impaired OS (HR = 1.802, 95%-CI: 1.134–2.864; p = 0.013) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) (HR = 1.633, 95%-CI: 1.042–2.560; p = 0.033), respectively, when adjusting for co-variables. Hence, Trop-2 may serve as an independent prognostic biomarker in OSCC. In subsequent studies, the pathophysiological meaning of downregulated Trop-2 expression in the OSCC periphery has to be analyzed. 相似文献

Some 2,4-disubstituted quinazolines were synthesized and studied as multidrug resistance (MDR) reversers. The new derivatives carried the quinazoline-4-amine scaffold found in modulators of the ABC transporters involved in MDR, as the TKIs gefitinib and erlotinib. Their behaviour on the three ABC transporters, P-gp, MRP1 and BCRP, was investigated. Almost all compounds inhibited the P-gp activity in MDCK-MDR1 cells overexpressing P-gp, showing EC50 values in the nanomolar range ( 1 d , 1 e , 2 a , 2 c , 2 e ). Some compounds were active also towards MRP1 and/or BCRP. Docking results obtained by in silico studies on the P-gp crystal structure highlighted common features for the most potent compounds. The P-gp selective compound 1 e was able to increase the doxorubicin uptake in HT29/DX cells and to restore its antineoplastic activity in resistant cancer cells in the same extent of sensitive cells. Compound 2 a displayed a dual inhibitory effect showing good activities towards both P-gp and BCRP. 相似文献

In this work platelet lysate (PL) and adipose‐derived mesenchymal stromal cells (ASCs) seeded on nonwoven fibroin mats were in vitro and in vivo evaluated for tissue regenerative applications. Nonwoven mats obtained by a large scale water entanglement technique were characterized for their physico‐chemical properties. Results indicated a high purity of fibroin fibers, their stability after sterilization process and appropriate technological properties suitable for tissue engineering. Moreover, the scaffolds in vitro supported adhesion and migration of ASCs and the presence of PL improved the cell proliferation. The products were then applied on epithelial/dermal wounds carried out on the dorsal surface of rabbit: the skin reparative process was solved in 9 days, with a completely restitutio ad integrum of the epithelium in animals treated with PL alone; ASCs did not further improve the wound healing. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two obligate intracellular parasites, Trypanosoma cruzi, the agent of Chagas disease, and Toxoplasma gondii, an agent of toxoplasmosis, upregulate the mevalonate pathway of their host cells upon infection, which suggests that this host pathway could be a potential drug target. In this work, a number of compounds structurally related to WC‐9 (4‐phenoxyphenoxyethyl thiocyanate), a known squalene synthase inhibitor, were designed, synthesized, and evaluated for their effect on T. cruzi and T. gondii growth in tissue culture cells. Two fluorine‐containing derivatives, the 3‐(3‐fluorophenoxy)‐ and 3‐(4‐fluorophenoxy)phenoxyethyl thiocyanates, exhibited half‐maximal effective concentration (EC50) values of 1.6 and 4.9 μm , respectively, against tachyzoites of T. gondii, whereas they showed similar potency to WC‐9 against intracellular T. cruzi (EC50 values of 5.4 and 5.7 μm , respectively). In addition, 2‐[3‐ (phenoxy)phenoxyethylthio]ethyl‐1,1‐bisphosphonate, which is a hybrid inhibitor containing 3‐phenoxyphenoxy and bisphosphonate groups, has activity against T. gondii proliferation at sub‐micromolar levels (EC50=0.7 μm ), which suggests a combined inhibitory effect of the two functional groups. 相似文献
