To test whether expression of hedonic and sensory odor qualities acquired by association with sweet and bitter tastes depend on hunger state, hungry volunteers experienced odors paired with sucrose, quinine, or water and then were tested under different hunger states manipulated with energy preloads. Acquired liking for sucrose-paired odors was evident following a low-energy or control preload but not a high-energy preload; however, odor sweetness increased in all preload conditions. Acquired dislike and increased bitterness of quinine-paired odors were independent of preloading. These data demonstrate hunger-dependent expression of acquired liking for flavors through flavor-flavor associations in humans and demonstrate independence between acquired hedonic and sensory qualities of odors. The present paper is a comparison between heat transfer characteristics of Al2O3/water and CuO/water nanofluids through a square cross-section cupric duct in laminar flow under uniform heat flux. Sometimes because of pressure drop limitations the need for noncircular ducts arises in many heat transfer applications, and a testing facility has been constructed for this purpose and experimental studies were performed on both nanofluids under different nanoparticles concentrations in distilled water as a base fluid. The results indicate that a considerable heat transfer enhancement has been achieved by both nanofluids compared with base fluid. However, CuO/water nanofluid shows better heat transfer augmentation compared with Al2O3/water nanofluid through square cross-section duct.  相似文献

Heat transfer behavior in a 2-D square lid-driven cavity has been studied for various pertinent Reynolds and Rayleigh numbers. The lattice Boltzmann method, a numerical tool based on the particle distribution function is applied to simulate a thermal fluid flow problem. Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (BGK) is combined with the double population thermal Lattice Boltzmann model to solve mixed convection in a square cavity. An adaptive-network-based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) method is trained and validated using BGK Lattice Boltzmann model results. The results show that the trained ANFIS model successfully predicts the temperature and flow fields in a few seconds with acceptable accuracy.  相似文献

Research on information processing biases has been motivated by the hope that it would lead to new and more efficient psychotherapeutic interventions. The literature is abundant with empirical data of attentional biases toward threat stimuli in anxiety disorders. This article aims to review the existing literature on the topic of attentional bias in anxiety disorders and discuss important implications for clinical practice. We adopted an integrative approach to link research data on attentional bias, information processing, and cognitive accounts (automaticity and controllability) with clinical practice in cognitive-behavioral therapy. It is important to develop and apply therapeutic interventions that can effectively reduce negative attentional biases while treating the main problems associated with anxiety disorders. However, it remains to be seen whether cognitive therapy interventions targeting more voluntary, strategic information processing can have a positive impact on automatic, involuntary processing involved in attentional biases. Serrated flow was investigated in superalloy IN738LC, a nickel-base γ′ age-hardened alloy. In this material serrated flow appeared between 350 and 450 °C and strain rate of (8.77 × 10−5 to 8.77 × 10−3) s−1. Activation energy for this process was calculated to be 0.69–0.86 eV which is in good agreement with the values reported for similar alloys. Results show that the diffusion rate of substitutional solute atoms at this temperature range is too low to cause this effect. This suggests that the interaction of solute atoms and moving dislocation is responsible for the observed serrated flow in this alloy.  相似文献

Dynamic virtual machine (VM) consolidation is one of the emerging technologies that has been considered for low-cost computing in cloud data centers. Quality-of-service (QoS) assurance is one of the challenging issues in the VM consolidation problem since it is directly affected by the increase of resource utilization due to the consolidations. In this paper, we take advantage of Markov chain models to propose a novel approach for VM consolidation that can be used to explicitly set a desired level of QoS constraint in a data center to ensure the QoS goals while improving system utilization. For this purpose, an energy-efficient and QoS-aware best fit decreasing algorithm for VM placement is proposed, which considers QoS objective when determining the location of a migrating VM. This algorithm employs an online transition matrix estimator method to deal with the nonstationary nature of real workload data. We also propose new policies for detecting overloaded and underloaded hosts. The performance of our proposed algorithms is evaluated through simulations. The results show that the proposed VM consolidation algorithms in this paper outperforms the benchmark algorithms in terms of energy consumption, service-level agreement violations, and other cost factors.  相似文献
