The product‐based recycling of the electrical and electronic devices and their by‐products are limited due to their complex characteristics and dissimilar material characteristics. However, such recycling procedures give clear ideas about the composition and possible recycling options of the materials present in them. Consequently, the present study deals with isolation and recycling of the major polymeric fraction present in the waste computer power supply cables (CPS) and electrical power supply (EPS) wires isolated from the household items. The composition analysis of CPS and EPS indicates that the poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) is the major polymeric fraction along with minor content of polyethylene (PE) and polycarbonate (PC). Further, this research compares the mechanical recyclability of the PVC recovered from the CPS and EPS. Among the PVC's analyzed, PVC isolated from the EPS has been indicated superior mechanical properties. Similarly, thermal degradation analysis (TGA) indicated higher thermal stability for the PVC isolated from EPS. Besides, the flammability of the PVC specimens was studied and concluded with the possible mechanism occurring during combustion. Moreover, this study points out that PVC recovered from EPS and CPS can be mechanically recycled for the elimination of the waste. J. VINYL ADDIT. The composition and content of lipids, fatty acids, triacylglycerols, tocopherols and sterols in nine fenugreek genotypes were analyzed. Lipid content in fenugreek seeds ranged from 5.8 to 15.2%. Major fatty acids were: linoleic acid (45.1–47.5%), α-linolenic (18.3–22.8%), oleic (12.4–17.0%), palmitic (9.8–11.2%) and stearic (3.8–4.2%) acids. The ratios of n-6 to n-3 fatty acids were between 2.1 and 2.7. Similar fatty acid distribution was observed in all analyzed samples with some deviations. α-Tocopherol was the predominant component found in the fenugreek lipid antioxidants, and it constituted over 84% of the total amounts of tocopherols. It amounts ranged from 620 to 910 mg/kg lipids. β-Sitosterol was the major sterol in all samples, varying from 14,203 to 18,833 mg/kg of lipids. Campesterol and cycloartenol were other major sterols, and these compounds including β-sitosterol constituted 56–72% of all sterols. Fenugreek seed lipids consisted predominantly triunsaturated (56.9–66.5%) and diunsaturated (32.2–41.6%) triacylglycerides. Among these components trilinolein (LLL; 12.9–20.5%) dominated followed by PLL (14.0–20.4%), LnLnO (7.8–17.7%), PLO (5.7–11.6%), OLL (6.9–10.6%), LLLn (3.2–9.6%), and LnLnL (3.5–7.6%). Results of the study show that fenugreek seed lipids may be a source of a nutraceutical ingredient for food applications.  相似文献

Copolymerization of methacrylic acid (MAA) and ethyl acrylate (EA) was performed by the emulsion polymerization technique in the presence of a mixture of ionic and nonionic emulsifiers, at 85°C, using potassium persulfate as initiator (0.16 wt % of monomer). The molar ratio of MAA : EA varied between 44 : 56 and 54 : 46 in the monomer feed. Copolymers of MAA and EA were synthesized by incorporating diallyl phthalate (DAP) with varying concentrations (0–1.7 mol % of total monomer) in the feed. A copolymer latex of MAA, EA, and DAP was also prepared by the variable feed process. The intrinsic viscosity and gel content were determined. Copolymers were characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopic techniques. The composition of copolymers was determined by 1H‐NMR spectra and sequential distribution from 13C{1H}‐NMR spectra. The pH of the copolymer emulsion varied between 3 and 10 by addition of aqueous ammonia (23% w/w) and its effect on Brookfield viscosity was studied. The effects of copolymer composition, crosslinking agent concentration in the feed, monomer feed process, polymer solid contents, and shear rate on Brookfield viscosity were studied at pH ~ 8. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polypropylene/Pine apple leaf fiber (PP/PALF)‐reinforced nanocomposites were fabricated using melt blending technique in a twin‐screw extruder (Haake Rheocord 9000). Variation in mechanical properties, crystallization behavior, water absorption, and thermal stability with the addition of nanoclay in PP/PALF composites were investigated. It was observed that the tensile, flexural, and impact properties of PP increase with the increase in fiber loading from 10 to 30 wt %. Composites prepared using 30 wt % PALF and 5 wt % MA‐g‐PP exhibited optimum mechanical performance with an increase in tensile strength to 31%, flexural strength to 45% when compared with virgin PP. Addition of nanoclay results in a further increase in tensile and flexural strength of PP/PALF composites to 20 and 24.3%, which shows intercalated morphology. However, addition of nanoclay does not show any substantial increase in impact strength when compared with PP/PALF composites. Dynamic mechanical analysis tests revealed an increase in storage modulus (E′) and damping factor (tan δ), confirming a strong influence between the fiber/nanoclay and MA‐g‐PP. Differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis thermograms also showed improved thermal properties when compared with the virgin matrix. TEM micrographs also showed few layers of agglomerated clay galleries along with mixed nanomorphology in the nanocomposites. Wide angle X‐ray diffraction studies indicated an increase in d‐spacing from 22.4 Å in Cloisite 20A to 40.1 Å in PP/PALF nanocomposite because of improved intercalated morphology. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report on the synthesis of CdSe nanocrystal quantum dots (QDs) of different radii (R). Size dependent optical properties like increase in the confinement energy with decreasing radius for different excitonic transitions are studied. Different excitonic transitions are calculated from the second derivative of UV-vis absorption spectra of as synthesized CdSe QDs. The transitions are assigned to specific states by calculating the transition energies using effective mass approximation. A close matching of the transition energies with the experiment suggesting that the second derivative of the absorption spectra could provide a direct knowledge of the electronic transition for the direct band gap semiconductor quantum dots.  相似文献

Delay/disruption tolerant networks (DTNs) are potentially applicable in the challenged scenarios like post‐disaster environments. In such networks, data forwarding generally relies on the mutual cooperation of the nodes. However, in reality, despite the availability of necessary resources for data forwarding, a node could misbehave by dropping messages received from other nodes with whom it has no strong social ties. Such a node is called a socially selfish node, which would cause a poor delivery ratio in the network. In this paper, we aim to address the problem of multicast data forwarding in the presence of such selfish nodes, by means of efficient relay selection in DTNs. First, we define a realistic reputation model, in contrast to existing models, to define the socially selfish/misbehaving nodes in the network. Further, a game‐theoretic analysis is carried out that implies data forwarding cost is also an influential parameter in handling selfishness/misbehavior. Subsequently, the problem is formulated as a constrained optimization problem, which is NP hard. Therefore, a heuristic is proposed by combining the reputation of a node and the cost of message forwarding to appropriately identify relay nodes, thus improve the performance of the multicast message delivery in the network. We utilize a social metric, centrality to minimize the message forwarding cost in terms of the number of relay nodes. Finally, the comparative performance evaluation in ONE simulator with practical scenarios shows the superiority of the proposed scheme over the other prominent schemes.  相似文献

Lactobacillus is among the most important GRAS food lactic acid bacteria, with nearly 140 species at present, mostly of industrial importance. Being part of the natural flora of a range of food products like raw milk, fermented dairy products, fruits, vegetables, meat products they also serve as starters for a number of fermented food products either to enhance the quality or to add health benefits. These groups of economically important species are often alike in phenotypic and physiological characteristics, probably due to their co-evolution in the same ecological niches; hence they are difficult to be differentiated. This demands advanced methods for their proper identification and characterization. With the advancement of molecular biology, a range of DNA-based molecular techniques has replaced the largely cumbersome phenotypic methods. This review summarizes the various molecular techniques available for detection and identification within the genus Lactobacillus, with special emphasis on the four groups of closely resembling species: L. casei group, L. acidophilus group, L. delbrueckii subspecies, and L. plantarum group. This review also provides insights into current trends for alternative molecular markers other than 16S rRNA to resolve the ambiguity within phylogenetically close species in the genus Lactobacillus.  相似文献

The concentrations of some elements in a few varieties of cereals and pulses are determined by Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis using a single comparator method (k0-standardised NAA method). A total of 15 elements are measured. The method was validated by analysing the Standard Reference Material (SRM-1571) of NIST; the results are within +/-10% of the reported values for the majority of the elements. The measured concentrations of major and minor elements are analysed in terms of the average intake of mineral content and the role of these elements in terms of the nutritional value.  相似文献

Water stress during the reproductive phase, especially during seed development, is considered detrimental for chickpea yield. In the present study, the relative sensitivity of Desi and Kabuli chickpea types to water stress during seed filling was assessed in terms of effects on quantitative and qualitative aspects of seed yield. Leaves of both types experienced stress injury (evaluated as electrolyte leakage) to the same extent and possessed almost similar values of water potential at the end of 14 days of water stress. The stressed plants of Kabuli type lost more chlorophyll and had less photosynthesis than Desi type. At maturity, Desi type showed more diminution of vegetative dry matter due to stress over control than Kabuli type. On the other hand, Kabuli type showed a proportionally greater reduction in seed weight per plant, average seed weight, average seed size, number of pods (single‐ and double‐seeded) and harvest index. The stressed seeds of Kabuli type showed 48 and 46% reduction over control in starch and protein content compared with 25 and 40%, respectively in Desi type. The accumulation of soluble sugars was relatively greater due to stress in Kabuli (47%) than Desi type (23%). Fat and fiber content declined by 39 and 35% over control in Desi seeds because of stress whereas Kabuli type showed 46 and 67% decreases, respectively. Protein fractions, namely albumins, globulins, glutelins and prolamins, decreased in stressed seeds of Kabuli by 32, 40, 16 and 15% over control relative to 40, 48, 30 and 28%, respectively, in Kabuli type. The activities of sucrose synthase, invertase and soluble starch synthase were inhibited to a higher extent in Kabuli seeds than Desi seeds under stress. Kabuli seeds showed significantly more reduction in the accumulation of amino acids such as phenylalanine + tyrosine, tryptophan, valine, alanine and histidine and minerals (Ca, P, Fe) due to stress compared with Desi type.
