The fluidised bed drying characteristics of soybeans at high temperatures (110-140 degrees C) and moisture contents, 31-49% dry basis, were modelled using drying equations from the literature. Air speeds of 2.4-4.1 m/s and bed depths from 10 to 15 cm were used. The minimum fluidised bed velocity was 1.9 m/s. From a quality point of view, fluidised bed drying was found to reduce the level of urease activity which is an indirect measure of trypsin inhibitor, with 120 degrees C being the minimum required to reduce the urease activity to an acceptable level. Increased air temperatures caused increased cracking and breakage, with temperatures below 140 degrees C giving an acceptable level for the animal feed industry in Thailand. The protein level was not significantly reduced in this temperature range. The drying rate equations and quality models were then combined to develop optimum strategies for fluidised bed drying, based on quality criteria, drying capacity, energy consumption and drying cost. The results showed that from 33.3% dry basis, soybean should not be dried below 23.5% dry basis in the fluidised bed dryer, to avoid excessive grain cracking. The optimum conditions for minimum cost, minimum energy and maximum capacity coincided at a drying temperature of 140 degrees C, bed depth of 18 cm, air velocity of 2.9 m/s and fraction of air recirculated of 0.9. These conditions resulted in 27% cracking, 1.7% breakage and an energy consumption of 6.8 MJ/kg water evaporated.  相似文献

This paper describes a strategy for reducing moisture in paddy by fluidized bed drying, tempering and ambient air cooling. Experimental results showed that after the three processes, moisture content was reduced from 33 % to 16.5 % dry-basis within approximately 53 minutes. During the first process, a fluidized-bed dryer was used to reduce the moisture content of paddy down to 19.5 % dry-basis within 3 minutes. Then the paddy was tempered for 30 minutes. Finally, it was cooled by ambient air (temperature and relative humidity of 30 °C and 55-60% respectively) with air velocity of 0.15 m/s for 20 minutes. Quality of paddy in terms of head rice yield and whiteness was acceptable.  相似文献

Using carrot cubes as a model heat-sensitive material, experimental investigations were conducted to examine the drying kinetics and various quality parameters of the dried product undergoing both low-pressure superheated steam and vacuum drying. Effects of operating parameters such as pressure and temperature on the drying characteristics as well as quality attributes, i.e., volume, shrinkage, apparent density, color, and rehydration behavior, of the dried product underwent the two drying processes were also evaluated and compared. Although low-pressure steam drying required longer dwell time to achieve the same final moisture content than vacuum drying, some of the quality attributes were superior to those obtained in vacuum drying.  相似文献

A cross-flow fluidized bed paddy dryer with a capacily of 200 kgh was designed, fabricated and tested. Experimental results showed that final moisture content of paddy should not be lower than 23 % dry-basis if quality is to be maintained. Drying air temperature was keot constant at 115°C according to the recommendation of previous work. Results obtained from the mathematical model developed in this study indicatedthat optimum operating parameters should be as follows : air speed of 2.3 m/s, bed thickness of 10 cm and fraction of air recycled of 80 %. At this condition, energy consumption was close to the minimum while drying capacity was near the maximum. A prototype fluidized bed dryer with a capacity of 1 t/h was designed, fabricated and installed with the collaboration of a private company. The unit has been used for almost the whole past harvesting season in 1994 at a paddy merchant sile with preference compared to conventional column continuous dryers. More than 300 tons of paddy were dried without any problems.  相似文献

A novel heat pump system is proposed. A thermoelectric solar collector was coupled to a solar-assisted heat pump (TESC-HP) to work as an evaporator. The cooling effect of the system’s refrigerant allowed the cold side of the system’s thermoelectric modules to work at lower temperature, improving the conversion efficiency. The TESC-HP system mainly consisted of transparent glass, an air gap, an absorber plate that acted as a direct expansion-type collector/evaporator, an R-134a piston-type hermetic compressor, a water-cooled plate-type condenser, thermoelectric modules, and a water storage tank. Test results indicated that the TESC-HP has better coefficient of performance (COP) and conversion efficiency than the separate units. For the meteorological conditions in Mahasarakham, the COP of the TESC-HP system can reach 5.48 when the average temperature of 100 L of water is increased from 28°C to 40°C in 60 min with average ambient temperature of 32.5°C and average solar intensity of 815 W/m2, whereas the conversion efficiency of the TE power generator was around 2.03%.  相似文献

A study of stress distribution inside a germinated brown rice (GBR) kernel during drying is important to understand the fissure formation of GBR and hence control the drying process in order to improve the quality of GBR. In this study, a finite element method performed in three dimensions in conjunction with the heat and mass balance of the drying system was developed to describe moisture, temperature, and stress distributions inside GBR kernels during fluidized bed drying. The modeling was carried out using the coupling of heat and mass transfer and validated with experimental data at 90–150°C. The results of moisture and temperature predictions agreed well with the experiments. During drying, tensile stress occurred at the layers close to surface and compressive stress occurred at the inner portion of a kernel. The tensile and compressive stresses increased to the highest value at about 30 s of drying, corresponding to the highest moisture gradient, and then decreased afterwards. The tensile and compressive stresses were higher at a higher drying temperature. These stress prediction results corresponded to the experiments, which show more severe GBR fissuring at higher drying temperatures.  相似文献

Abstract

This study investigated the quality and drying kinetics of instant parboiled rice fortified with turmeric (IPRFT) by using hot air (HA) and microwave-assisted hot air (MWHA) drying. The cooked long grain parboiled rice (LGPR) fortified with turmeric was dried with HA at temperatures of 65, 80, 95, and 110?°C. The microwave power density of 0.588 Wg?1 was incorporated for drying with MWHA. Drying was performed until the dried IPRFT reached 16% (d.b.) of moisture content. The quality of the dried IPRFT was evaluated in terms of color, total phenolics content (TPC), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), rehydration ratio, volume expansion ratio, texture and microstructure. The results showed that the incorporation of microwave power with HA drying helped to reduce the drying time by 50% compared to conventional HA drying. A prediction of the moisture ratio by using the Page model provided the best R2 and RMSE in drying kinetics. The drying conditions had small effects on the color, TPC, TAC, and microstructure of the dried IPFRT. The rehydration ratio, volume expansion ratio and texture of the rehydrated IPFRT showed minimal variations from changes in the drying conditions. The TPC and TAC of the dried IPRFT clearly increased compared to the TPC and TAC of the initial LGPR.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A mathematical model of a heat pump fruit dryer was developed to study the performance of heat pump dryers. Using the moisture content of papaya glace' drying, the refrigerant temperature at the evaporator and condenser and the performance, was verified. It was found that the simulated results using closed loop heat pump dryer were close to the experimental results. The criteria for evaluating the performance were specific moisture extraction rate and drying rate. The results showed that ambient conditions affected significantly on the performance of the open loop dryer and the partially closed loop dryer. Also, the fraction of evaporator bypass air affected markedly on the performance of all heat pump dryers. In addition, it was found that specific air flow rate and drying air temperature affected significantly the performance of all heat pump dryers.  相似文献

This article describes the testing of a pilot-scale superheated-steam fluidized-bed dryer for parboiled rice along with development of a mathematical model for predicting the changes in temperature of steam and moisture content of parboiled rice during drying. Based on the obtained results, it was found that the superficial velocity of steam from 1.3 to 1.5 times of the minimum fluidization velocity had no significant effect on the drying rates of rice. The energy consumption for reducing the moisture content of paddy from 0.43 to 0.22 kg/kg dry basis was approximately 7.2 MJ/kg water evaporated. Drying temperature caused the appreciable change of parboiled rice qualities as characterized by water adsorption, whiteness and pasting viscosities, white belly, and hardness. Soaking paddy at a temperature of 70°C for 7–8 h before drying was sufficiently enough for producing parboiled rice, with no white belly. The gelatinization of starch during drying resulted in higher head rice yield of the product as compared to that of raw paddy.  相似文献
