The cover shows 100 μm diameter glass spheres covered by a grid of hexagonally packed polystyrene beads. Wolf and co‐workers placed the 500 nm diameter polystyrene beads onto the larger spheres using the self‐assembly, transfer, and integration (SATI) process that they report on p. 2438. The cover illustrates the capability of SATI to process uneven surfaces in addition to the planar substrates discussed in the article. The carrier that holds the smaller beads deforms during their transfer onto the larger spheres, so that on the larger spheres patterned “caps” are formed. Using this process, which is compatible with standard microfabrication techniques, a variety of particle assemblies can be achieved. 相似文献

The concept of user-centred systems design (UCSD) has no agreed upon definition. Consequently, there is a great variety in the ways it is applied, which may lead to poor quality and poor usability in the resulting systems, as well as misconceptions about the effectiveness of UCSD. The purpose of this paper is to propose a definition of UCSD. We have identified 12 key principles for the adoption of a user-centred development process, principles that are based on existing theory, as well as research in and experiences from a large number of software development projects. The initial set of principles were applied and evaluated in a case study and modified accordingly. These principles can be used to communicate the nature of UCSD, evaluate a development process or develop systems development processes that support a user-centred approach. An efficient, accurate and practical process for prioritising requirements is of great importance in commercial software developments.
This article improves an existing cost-value approach in which stakeholders compare all unique pairs of candidate requirements
according to their value and their cost of implementation. Techniques for reducing the required number of comparisons are
suggested, thus making the process more efficient. An initial approach for managing requirements interdependencies is proposed.
A support tool for the improved process has been developed to make the process more practical in commercial developments.
The improved process and its support tool have been applied and evaluated in an industrial project at Ericsson Radio Systems

There is an implicit assumption in electronic commerce that induces the buyers to believe that their deals will be handled appropriately. However, after a seller has already committed to a buyer, he may be tempted by several requests though he will not be able to supply them all. We analyze markets in which a finite set of automated buyers interacts repeatedly with a finite set of automated sellers. These sellers can satisfy one buyer at a time, and they can be tempted to break a commitment they already have. We have found the perfect equilibria that exist in markets with a finite horizon, and with an unrestricted horizon. A significant result stemming from our study reveals that sellers are almost always tempted to breach their commitments. However, we also show that if markets' designers implement an external mechanism that restricts the automated buyers actions, then sellers will keep their commitments. 相似文献

The performance of transcritical R744 systems with direct expansion (DX) can be significantly improved by implementing a Flash Gas Bypass (FGB). The idea behind the concept is to bypass refrigerant vapor, created during the isenthalpic expansion process, around the evaporator. By feeding the evaporator with liquid refrigerant, pressure drop is reduced and refrigerant distribution is improved. With R744 as the working fluid, increased refrigerant-side heat transfer coefficients are expected as well. In addition, the FGB concept proves to be beneficial in terms of system design, in particular for combined air-conditioning and heat pumping applications. An experimental comparison to a conventional DX-system reveals that FGB increases the cooling capacity and COP at the same time by up to 9 and 7%, respectively. Even larger improvements are possible in case a variable speed compressor is utilized to match the performance of the conventional DX-system. A simulation model helps to separate the individual improvement mechanisms. It was found that the reduction of refrigerant-side pressure drop is the dominant improvement mechanism of FGB. 相似文献

Unique reduced graphene oxide named solar reduced graphene oxide (SRGO) was found to be an excellent anode material in Li ion battery. The discovery in 2006 that loss-of-function mutations in the filaggrin gene (FLG) cause ichthyosis vulgaris and can predispose to atopic dermatitis (AD) galvanized the dermatology research community and shed new light on a skin protein that was first identified in 1981. However, although outstanding work has uncovered several key functions of filaggrin in epidermal homeostasis, a comprehensive understanding of how filaggrin deficiency contributes to AD is still incomplete, including details of the upstream factors that lead to the reduced amounts of filaggrin, regardless of genotype. In this review, we re-evaluate data focusing on the roles of filaggrin in the epidermis, as well as in AD. Filaggrin is important for alignment of keratin intermediate filaments, control of keratinocyte shape, and maintenance of epidermal texture via production of water-retaining molecules. Moreover, filaggrin deficiency leads to cellular abnormalities in keratinocytes and induces subtle epidermal barrier impairment that is sufficient enough to facilitate the ingress of certain exogenous molecules into the epidermis. However, although FLG null mutations regulate skin moisture in non-lesional AD skin, filaggrin deficiency per se does not lead to the neutralization of skin surface pH or to excessive transepidermal water loss in atopic skin. Separating facts from chaff regarding the functions of filaggrin in the epidermis is necessary for the design efficacious therapies to treat dry and atopic skin. 相似文献

The task of multi-stage safety stock optimization is very complex. Therefore, simplifying models with specific assumptions are considered. In this paper, the inventory system is controlled by a base-stock policy where each stockpoint of the inventory system follows a periodically reviewed order-up-to policy. End item demands are assumed to be normally distributed. To reduce the occurrences or size and duration of internal and external stockouts, appropriate service level constraints are specified for all items. Applying such a control policy within systems of serial, convergent or divergent structure, solution properties hold which reduce the solution set to a limited number of cut-levels. Dynamic programming allows to evaluate the relevant alternatives with little computational effort. For the serial system, both a forward and a backward recursion with different types of service levels are presented and extended to a backward algorithm for divergent and a forward algorithm for convergent systems. Bounds for the complexity of the algorithms are discussed and numerical examples are presented to demonstrate differences in size and allocation of safety stocks according to the prespecified type of service level. 相似文献
