In this paper cyclic quasi-static and constant amplitude fatigue responses of concrete subjected tensile compression–tension (C–T) biaxial stress are presented. In the tensile C–T region within the biaxial stress space, magnitude of the principal tensile stress is larger than or equal to that of the principal compressive stress. An experimental program consisted of subjecting hollow, cylindrical concrete specimens to torsional loading. Failure in both quasi-static and fatigue is due to crack propagation. It is shown that the crack propagation resulting from the biaxial loading can be predicted using Mode I fracture parameters. The fatigue crack growth is observed to be a two-phase process: an acceleration stage that follows a deceleration stage. The crack length where the rate of crack growth changes from deceleration to acceleration is shown to be equal to the crack length at the quasi-static peak load. Analytical expressions for crack growth in the deceleration and acceleration stages are developed in terms of the mechanisms that influence quasi-static crack growth. The model parameters obtained from uniaxial fatigue tests are shown to be sufficient for predicting the biaxial fatigue response. Finally, a fracture-based fatigue-failure criterion is proposed, wherein the fatigue failure can be predicted using the critical Mode I stress intensity factor. 相似文献

Wavelength conversion helps improve the performance of wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) optical networks that employ wavelength routing. In this paper, we address the problem of optimally placing a limited number of wavelength converters in mesh topologies. Two objective functions, namely, minimizing the average blocking probability and minimizing the maximum blocking probability over all routes, are considered. In the first part of the paper, we extend an earlier analytical model to compute the blocking probability on an arbitrary route in a mesh topology, given the traffic and locations of converters. We then propose heuristic algorithms to place wavelength converters, and evaluate the performance of the proposed heuristics using the analytical model. Results suggest that simple heuristics are sufficient to give near-optimal performance. 相似文献

Colloidal gas aphrons (CGAs), generated from dilute solutions of four surfactants, were used to clarify palm oil mill effluent (POME), suspensions of microalgae and suspensions of three inorganic minerals. In POME and the algal suspensions, each CGA was most effective at a pH value close to the pK value of the surfactant concerned. This effect was not tested in the inorganic suspensions. The efficiency of air utilization was directly related to the concentration of solids in the suspensions, the size, density and nature of the solids having secondary effects. Comparison with data in the literature led to a general correlation embracing a variety of suspensions and flotation systems. Shedding of collected material from the foam layer was also a direct function of solids concentration. CGAs offer advantages over other systems of air-assisted flotation in relation to the requirements for equipment and to the management of process operations. 相似文献

A TEOM is used to elucidate the adsorption/desorption characteristics of alkylation reactants on USY‐ and β‐zeolites. Equilibrium adsorption isotherms were obtained on USY‐ and β‐zeolites using n‐butane, isobutane and propane as proxy reactant molecules (T = 303–398 K, adsorbate partial pressure 0–1.2 bar). Analysis of the transient adsorption/desorption profiles of these molecules from either a bed of the zeolite or pelletized particles of the crystals (with mean size < 1 μm) demonstrate that diffusion in the secondary meso‐/macroporous structure formed in the packing or the pellets controls the overall sorption rates. The experimental adsorption/desorption profiles from the pelletized zeolites were regressed with available mathematical models to obtain effective meso‐/macropore diffusivities for reactant molecules, and nearly perfect fits of the experimental and the modeled profiles. Taking into account the dead volume in the system, a criterion for reliable measurements of either micropore or mesopore diffusivities by the TEOM technique is derived. © 2009 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 2010 相似文献

A third-order quadrature-based moment method for simulating dilute and moderately dilute fluid–particle flows has been implemented with full coupling in a computational fluid dynamics code. The solution algorithm for the particle phase uses a kinetic-based finite-volume technique to solve the velocity moment equations derived from kinetic theory. The procedure to couple the particle-phase volume-fraction and momentum equations with the Eulerian solver for the fluid phase is explained in detail. As an example application, simulations of a particle-laden vertical channel flow at fluid-phase Reynolds number 1379 and particle Stokes numbers 0.061 and 0.61 were carried out. The fluid and particle velocities, particle-phase volume fraction and granular temperature were observed to reach a steady state in the case of Stokes number 0.061, while instabilities that led to the formation of structures and initiated the particle segregation process were observed in the case with the higher Stokes number. These results are validated against results from a classical two-fluid model derived from the kinetic theory of granular flows in the small Knudsen number limit, and Euler–Lagrange simulations of the same flow. 相似文献

Among industrial chemical processes, ethylene oxide manufacture emits the largest amount of CO2 (∼2-3 million tons/yr), as byproduct from the burning of both the ethylene (feed) and ethylene oxide. Further, the conventional silver-based catalytic process presents safety challenges due to the formation of explosive ethylene oxide/O2 mixtures in the gas phase. By judicious choice of the catalyst (methyltrioxorhenium), oxidant (H2O2) and reaction medium (methanol/water), a homogeneous liquid phase catalytic system has been demonstrated that eliminates CO2 formation while producing ethylene oxide at >90% selectivity at near-ambient temperatures. Given its high volatility, the ethylene oxide is easily recovered from the reaction phase by distillation. The vicinity of the gaseous ethylene feed to its critical temperature (9 °C) is exploited to significantly increase its solubility in the liquid reaction phase by facile compression beyond the critical pressure of ethylene (∼50 bar). Since H2O2 is stable at typical reaction temperatures (40 °C or less), potentially explosive ethylene oxide/O2 mixtures are avoided in the gas phase. In addition to the potential of arresting the carbon footprint of a large-scale industrial process, the demonstrated process concept shows how gas-expanded liquids can be generally exploited in homogeneous catalysis to enhance productivity. 相似文献

Electrochemical polymerization is a simple and direct technique often employed for immobilizing redox enzymes at an electrode surface. Besides these, it allows precise control over the amount, spatial distribution and orientation of the enzymes. Analytical expressions pertaining to the immobilization of enzyme by electrochemical polymerization on the electrode surface were obtained by Homotopy perturbation method (HPM). This expression further distinguishes the product of the enzyme reaction at the electrode surface from those occurring alongside the polymer employed for immobilization. Syntaxin 1, synaptobrevins or vesicle-associated membrane proteins, and the synaptosome-associated protein of 25 kDa (SNAP-25) are key molecules involved in the docking and fusion of synaptic vesicles with the presynaptic membrane. We report here the molecular, cell biological, and biochemical characterization of a 32-kDa protein homologous to both SNAP-25 (20% amino acid sequence identity) and the recently identified SNAP-23 (19% amino acid sequence identity). Northern blot analysis shows that the mRNA for this protein is widely expressed. Polyclonal antibodies against this protein detect a 32-kDa protein present in both cytosol and membrane fractions. The membrane-bound form of this protein is revealed to be primarily localized to the Golgi apparatus by indirect immunofluorescence microscopy, a finding that is further established by electron microscopy immunogold labeling showing that this protein is present in tubular-vesicular structures of the Golgi apparatus. Biochemical characterizations establish that this protein behaves like a SNAP receptor and is thus named Golgi SNARE of 32 kDa (GS32). GS32 in the Golgi extract is preferentially retained by the immobilized GST-syntaxin 6 fusion protein. The coimmunoprecipitation of syntaxin 6 but not syntaxin 5 or GS28 from the Golgi extract by antibodies against GS32 further sustains the preferential interaction of GS32 with Golgi syntaxin 6. 相似文献

Resource scheduling in Long Term Evolution (LTE) is an open and rising issue. It has an enormous impact on the entire system performance. Due to the nature of LTE system, the scheduler has to be designed carefully. It has to overcome many challenges such as limited processing time and the high dynamic behavior. This paper proposes a novel scheduling policy for the MAC layer in LTE called the Best Minimum Summation (BMS). The main aim of this scheduling policy is to achieve high performance with low complexity. Three sub-schedulers have been developed. Each one of these schedulers deals with scheduling table in different dimension. The first one operates on the scheduling table through the user dimension (BMS.UE); while the second one operates on the scheduling table through the resource block dimension (BMS.RB). The third scheduler operates on the scheduling table correlating both of these dimensions (BMS.2D). All of the proposed solutions were intensively evaluated in a system level simulator. Three performance metrics were used which are throughput, error rate and fairness. The results have shown that the ability of the BMS.UE scheduler to outperform other existing schedulers of LTE. 相似文献
