Integrated resonant interband tunneling (RIT) and Schottky diode structures, based on the InAs/GaSb/AlSb heterostructure system, are demonstrated for the first time. The RIT diodes are advantageous for logic circuits due to the relatively low bias voltages (~100 mV) required to attain peak current densities in the mid-104 A/cm 2 range. The use of n-type InAs/AlSb superlattices for the semiconducting side of Schottky barrier devices provides a means for tailoring the barrier height for a given circuit architecture. The monolithically integrated RIT/Schottky structure is suitable for fabrication of a complete diode logic family (AND, OR, XOR, INV)  相似文献

Four biomarkers of neuronal protein oxidation [W/S ratio of MAL-6 spin-labeled synaptosomes, phenylhydrazine-reactive protein carbonyl content, glutamine synthetase (GS) activity, creatine kinase (CK) activity] in three brain regions [cerebellum, inferior parietal lobule (IPL), and hippocampus (HIP)] of Alzheimer's disease (AD)-demented and age-matched control subjects were assessed. These endpoints indicate that AD brain protein may be more oxidized than that of control subjects. The W/S ratios of AD hippocampal and inferior parietal synaptosomes are 30 and 46% lower, respectively, than corresponding values of tissue isolated from control brain; however, the difference between the W/S ratios of AD and control cerebellar synaptosomes is not significant. Protein carbonyl content is increased 42 and 37% in the Alzheimer's HIP and IPL regions, respectively, relative to AD cerebellum, whereas carbonyl content in control HIP and IPL is similar to that of control cerebellum. GS activity decreases an average of 27% in the AD brain; CK activity declines by 80%. The brain regional variation of these oxidation-sensitive biomarkers corresponds to established histopathological features of AD (senile plaque and neurofibrillary tangle densities) and is paralleled by an increase in immunoreactive microglia. These data indicate that senile plaque-dense regions of the AD brain may represent environments of elevated oxidative stress.  相似文献

Although a majority of studies suggest that inhibitors of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) are proconvulsant, a substantial minority indicate the opposite (i.e. that inhibitors of NOS are anticonvulsant). As a consequence, the role of endogenous nitric oxide (NO) in the expression of seizures is unclear. In the present series of experiments, we therefore assessed factors governing pro- and anticonvulsant effects of inhibitors of NOS. In mice receiving systemic injections of kainate or picrotoxin, we confirmed the hypothesis that the effects of inhibitors of NOS vary with the model of seizure: Whereas 7-nitroindazole (7-NI) reduced the latency and increased the severity of kainate-induced convulsions (Expt. 1), both 7-NI and N(omega)-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) slightly delayed clonus following the systemic administration of picrotoxin at doses > or = 3.5 mg/kg but not at doses < or = 3.0 mg/kg (Expts. 2-5). Paradoxically, L-NAME but not 7-NI significantly reduced the CD50 of picrotoxin, which was approximately 2 mg/kg in control mice (Expt. 4), revealing inhibitor-specific interactions with the dose of the convulsant. Finally, we determined in rats that the effects of L-NAME on kainate-induced seizures vary as a function of genetic factors: L-NAME significantly potentiated kainate-induced convulsions in Sprague-Dawley rats but not in Wistar rats (Expt. 6).  相似文献

An investigation of the swelling behavior of open end and ring spun yarns in slack condition in 64.5% (w/w) aqueous zinc chloride and sodium hydroxide 22% (w/w) for different intervals ranging from 30 to 90 min is reported. The results show that the response of the yarns to the swelling agents is different in that the products treated with zinc chloride are found to possess higher strength and higher bending rigidities but low elongation. Swelling of yarns with sodium hydroxide has resulted in large increase in elongation. The other properties, namely, coefficient of friction and abrasion resistance, are found to be slightly higher than that of the yarns treated with sodium hydroxide. Degree of set of open end yarns is significantly higher than that of the ring spun yarns. Coefficient of friction and abrasion resistance of the zinc chloride treated yarn samples are found to be slightly higher than that of the sodium hydroxide treated samples.  相似文献

High resolution and cross-polarisation/magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy of crosslinked polystyrene and of reagents and catalysts supported on crosslinked polystyrene and silica gel are reviewed. The materials studied include ionexchange resins, resins in solid phase peptide synthesis, organic synthetic reagents, phase transfer catalysts, transition metal catalysts, and liquid chromatography column packings. 13C and 31P n.m.r. spectra have been used to identify structures and to study macromolecule and micromolecule dynamics. New spectra of crosslinked polystyrenes and supported reagents are reported. Procedure to obtain qualitative and quantitative spectra are recommended.  相似文献

The rind of rambutan, which is normally discarded was found to contain extremely high antioxidant activity when assessed using several methods. Although having a yield of only 18%, the ethanolic rambutan rind extract had a total phenolic content of 762 ± 10 mg GAE/g extract, which is comparable to that of a commercial preparation of grape seed extract. Comparing the extract’s pro-oxidant capabilities with vitamin C, α-tocopherol, grape seed and green tea, the rind had the lowest pro-oxidant capacity. In addition, the extract at 100 μg/ml was seen to limit oxidant-induced cell death (DPPH at 50 μM) by apoptosis to an extent similar to that of grape seed. The extracts were not cytotoxic to normal mouse fibroblast cells or splenocytes while the powderised rind was seen to have heavy metals contents far below the permissible levels for nutraceuticals. Our study for the first time reveals the high phenolic content, low pro-oxidant capacity and strong antioxidant activity of the extract from rind of Nephelium lappaceum. This extract, either alone or in combination with other active principles, can be used in cosmetic, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical applications.  相似文献

Medium-chain-length poly-3-hydroxyalkanoates (PHA) and carboxyl group-functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MC) were used to fabricate a composite membrane for application in a double-chambered microbial fuel cell (MFC). MC was composited into PHA at 5%, 10%, and 20% w/w via ultrasound dispersion blending method. PHA-MC composite was compared with Nafion 117 as proton exchange membrane in MFC operated with palm oil mill effluent (POME) wastewater. The composite exhibited prerequisite separator membrane characteristics. The dispersion of MC in the polymer matrix increased its interfacial surface area and water uptake properties. PHA-MC10% membrane in MFC showed maximum power density of 361?mW/m2, which was comparable with Nafion 117 (372?mW/m2). Internal resistance decrease, chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal, coulombic efficiency (CE), and conductivity of the PHA-MC10% were superior to Nafion 117. The environmental-friendly material could provide an alternative towards realizing practical MFC application.  相似文献
