Ultrastructural aspects of citrus canker development were investigated in nonwounded leaves of citrus species by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). A susceptible species Mexican lime and a resistant species Yuzu were spray-inoculated with a virulent strain of Xanthomonas citri pv. citri. Initial symptoms occurred on Mexican lime ∼9 days after inoculation, whereas they appeared on Yuzu mostly 11 days after inoculation. In Mexican lime leaves, the bacterial invasion was usually accompanied by host cell wall dissolution and cellular disruption. Fibrillar materials from degenerated cell walls were usually found in intercellular spaces. Damaged host cells with necrotic cytoplasm showed the localized separation of plasma membrane from the cell wall. Bacterial multiplication and electron-transparent capsule-like structures around bacteria were commonly observed. Meanwhile, cell wall protuberances were prominent outside host cell walls in response to bacterial invasion in Yuzu leaves. Occlusion of intercellular spaces was also formed by the fusion of two or more individual cell wall protuberances originated from two adjacent host cells. Papillae-like materials accumulated locally within host cells in close proximity to bacteria. Some bacteria were found to be undergoing degeneration in xylem vessels. Also, the shrunken, inactive bacteria were surrounded by electron-translucent fibrillar materials in intercellular spaces, implying bacterial immobilization. These cellular responses are thought to be the consequences of defense responses of Yuzu leaves to invading bacteria. The effects of motility and aggregation on the diffusion coefficient for bacteria were studied in an aqueous system. The effects
of cell concentrations, capillary tube sizes, and dilution rates on the diffusion coefficient were examined. In general, motile
cells can diffuse about 1000 times faster than non-motile cells.Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a motile cell, andKlebsiella pneumoniae, a non-motile cell, were used for this research. Diffusion coefficients were measured by the capillary tube assay developed
by Adler [1969]. From this procedure the diffusion coefficient ofPseudomonas aeruginosa was 2.1×10−5 (standard deviation: 1.0× 10−5) cm2/s and that ofKlebsiella pneumoniae was 0.9×10−5 (standard deviation : 0.5 × 10−5) cm2/s. The diffusion coefficient ofPseudomonas aeruginosa was about 2.3 times higher than that ofKlebsiella pneumoniae. The Stokes-Einstein equation could not be used for estimating the diffusion coefficients forKlebsiella pneumoniae andPseudomonas aeruginosa. The experimental value for the diffusion coefficient ofKlebsiella pneumoniae was about 2000 times higher than that (4.5×10−9 cm2/s) obtained from the Stokes-Einstein equation. Mesoporous molecular sieve MCM-41 with a Si/Al ratio of 35 was obtained by hydrothermal synthesis using a gel mixture with a molar composition of 6 SiO20.1 Al2O31 hexadecyltrimethylammonium chloride 0.25 dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide 0.25 tetrapropylammonium bromide0.15 (NH4)2O1.5 Na2O300 H2O. The MCM-41 sample was calcined in O2 flow at 813 K and subsequently ion exchanged with Ca2+. A small Pt cluster has been supported on the MCM-41 sample following a procedure using ion exchange of Pt(NH3)

. The Pt(NH3)

ion supported on MCM-41 has been activated in O2 flow at 593 K and subsequently reduced with Fh flow at 573 K, in the same way used for the preparation of a Pt cluster entrapped inside the supercage of zeolite NaY. The resulting Pt cluster supported on the MCM-41 shows hydrogen chemisorption oftotal two H atoms per Pt at 296 K (based on the total amount of Pt) and high catalytic activity for hydrogenolysis of ethane. The chemical shift in129Xe NMR spectroscopy of adsorbed xenon indicates that the Pt cluster is located inside the mesoporous molecular sieve. 相似文献

The diffusional Deborah number, De, defined as the ratio of characteristic relaxation time to characteristic diffusion time
was determined as a function of concentration and temperature in the dodecane transport process in polystyrene. The characteristic
relaxation time was obtained from the viscoelastic properties of dodecane/polystyrene systems measured by a dynamic mechanical
analyzer. The characteristic diffusion time was obtained from the concentration and temperature dependence of the diffusion
coefficient measured by NMR PGSE method. Above the room temperature the Deborah number changed significantly during isothermal
transport process; however, the transport mechanism did not deviate from the Fickian transport as the order of De was still
greater than 1. Around the room temperature the transport mechanisms represented by the resulting diffusional Deborah number
changed significantly as the order of magnitude approached 1 with the temperature decreasing from 50°C to the room temperature.
The transport mechanism predicted from the diffusional Deborah number was verified by the diffusional exponent, n, of an exponential

In this work, the nucleation and film growth of copper on TiN chemically treated with WF6 and air-exposed TiN by chemical vapor deposition(CVD) from hexafluoroacetylacetonate copper1 trimethyl-vinylsilane, (HFA)Cu(TMVS), was studied. Copper grows as islands of poorly connected grains on air-exposed TiN. In contrast, copper grows as a continuous film with well-connected grains on the surface of WF6-treated TiN. The effect of TiN surface condition has been examined using Auger electron spectros-copy(AES), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM). Chemostat and total cell retention cultures with internal filter system ofSaecharomyc.es cerevisiae H1-7 were carried out to produce ethanol from wood hydrolysate. Maximum ethanol productivity obtained in a chemostat with
the aeration rate of 1 vvm was 3.79 g/(L·h). This was 20% higher than that in a chemostat without aeration. However, the substrate
was not completely consumed at the dilution rate with the maximum productivity. The realistic productivity, which has higher
than 99% conversion rate of substrate, was. 2.95 g/(L·h). The maximum productivity in the total cell retention culture was

Effects of the reaction temperature, reaction time, mole ratio of fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) to sorbitol, and mole ratio
of fatty acid sodium soaps (FASS) to sorbitol on yields of sorbitol fatty acid polyester (SFPE) were examined with a response
surface methodology. The optimum reaction conditions selected with response surface analysis were as follows: reaction temperature,
144°C; reaction time, 6.65 h; mole ratio of FAME to sorbitol, 10.7∶1; and mole ratio of FASS to sorbitol, 0.77∶1. Under these
reaction conditions, the experimental yield of sorbitol fatty acid polyester (mean value: 92% range: 89–94%) obtained from
seven replications was close to the predicted value (94%) calculated from the polynomial response surface model equation.
The response surface methodology approach used in this study was able to predict the reaction conditions necessary for a high

Pressure fluctuations in a three phase bubble column reactor operating at relatively low pressure (92 KPa) have been analyzed
by adopting the spectral and fractal analyses to get the engineering informations for the on-line control and fault diagnosis
of the reactors. The mean value, standard deviation, skewness and kurtosis of the pressure fluctuations have been obtained.
The local fractal dimension has been determined from the Pox diagram obtained by means of the rescaled range analysis of the
pressure fluctuations based on the fractional Brownian motion. The local fractal dimension of pressure fluctuations has increased
and thus the pressure fluctuation signals have become less persistent and irregular, with increases in the gas flow rate reaction
temperature, particle size and solid content in the slurry phase. The local fractal dimension has been well correlated in

The initiation of matrix microcracking was investigated in unidirectional glass matrix composites having controlled fiber spacing. Observations were taken from composites consisting of regular arrays of TiB2 -coated SIGMA 1240 and carbon-coated SCS-6 monofilament SiC fibers in a series of borosilicate glasses. The thermal expansion mismatch between the fibers and glass matrix was varied such that the resulting radial stresses after processing ranged from tensile to compressive. The glass strongly bonds to the TiB2 -coated SIGMA 1240 fiber but weakly bonds to the carbon coating of the SCS-6 fiber, allowing the investigation of the effects of bonding at the fiber/matrix interface. The observed crack initiation stresses of the various composites are compared to predictions based on a previously developed semiempirical model and used to study the influence of the volume fraction of fibers, residual stress state and interface strength. 相似文献
