Network Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks that disable network services by flooding them with spurious packets are on the rise. Criminals with large networks (botnets) of compromised nodes (zombies) use the threat of DoS attacks to extort legitimate companies. To fight these threats and ensure network reliability, early detection of these attacks is critical. Many methods have been developed with limited success to date. This paper presents an approach that identifies change points in the time series of network packet arrival rates. The proposed process has two stages: (i) statistical analysis that finds the rate of increase of network traffic, and (ii) wavelet analysis of the network statistics that quickly detects the sudden increases in packet arrival rates characteristic of botnet attacks.Most intrusion detections are tested using data sets from special security testing configurations, which leads to unacceptable false positive rates being found when they are used in the real world. We test our approach using data from both network simulations and a large operational network. The true and false positive detection rates are determined for both data sets, and receiver operating curves use these rates to find optimal parameters for our approach. Evaluation using operational data proves the effectiveness of our approach. 相似文献

A great deal of work has been done to analyze the problem of robot move sequencing and part scheduling in robotic flowshop cells. We examine the recent developments in this literature. A robotic flowshop cell consists of a number of processing stages served by one or more robots. Each stage has one or more machines that perform that stage’s processing. Types of robotic cells are differentiated from one another by certain characteristics, including robot type, robot travel-time, number of robots, types of parts processed, and use of parallel machines within stages. We focus on cyclic production of parts. A cycle is specified by a repeatable sequence of robot moves designed to transfer a set of parts between the machines for their processing.We start by providing a classification scheme for robotic cell scheduling problems that is based on three characteristics: machine environment, processing restrictions, and objective function, and discuss the influence of these characteristics on the methods of analysis employed. In addition to reporting recent results on classical robotic cell scheduling problems, we include results on robotic cells with advanced features such as dual gripper robots, parallel machines, and multiple robots. Next, we examine implementation issues that have been addressed in the practice-oriented literature and detail the optimal policies to use under various combinations of conditions. Granular pile anchors (GPA) are one of the recent innovative foundation techniques devised for mitigating the problems posed by swelling clay beds. In a granular pile anchor, the footing is anchored to an anchor plate at the bottom of the granular pile. This makes the granular pile tension resistant and enables it to absorb the tensile force caused on the foundation by the swelling clay. An understanding of the amount of uplift resistance offered by the GPA is important in the design of granular pile-anchor foundations in field situations causing tensile forces on foundations, such as in expansive clay beds. This paper presents the results of a field-scale test program conducted to study the pullout response of GPAs embedded in expansive clay beds. Pullout load tests were conducted on GPAs of varying lengths and diameters. It was found from the field pullout load tests that granular pile anchors of larger surface area resulted in higher pullout capacity. Of the various single granular pile anchors with l/d values between 2.5 and 10, the GPA of length 1000?mm and diameter 200?mm (l/d = 5) showed the best pullout load response when tested alone, resulting in a failure uplift capacity of 14.71?kN. Increase in diameter and length of granular pile anchor increased the uplift capacity. When the length of the GPA was increased from 500 to 750 and 1000?mm, the percentage increase in the uplift load required for an upward movement of 25?mm was 33.3 and 55.5% respectively. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) has recently emerged as a nature-inspired algorithm for real parameter optimization. This
article describes a method for improving the final accuracy and the convergence speed of PSO by firstly adding a new coefficient
(called mobility factor) to the position updating equation and secondly modulating the inertia weight according to the distance
between a particle and the globally best position found so far. The two-fold modification tries to balance between the explorative
and exploitative tendencies of the swarm with an objective of achieving better search performance. We also mathematically
analyze the effect of the modifications on the dynamics of the PSO algorithm. The new algorithm has been shown to be statistically
significantly better than the basic PSO and four of its state-of-the-art variants on a twelve-function test-suite in terms

The mechanisms of stable growth of short fatigue cracks (crack length up to 1 mm) at room temperature in magnesia-partially stabilized zirconia subjected to cyclic tensile loads were investigated. Single edge-notched specimens were fractured in the four-point bend configuration under cyclic and quasi-static tensile loads. At a load ratio of 0.1, the threshold stress intensity factor range, K, for fracture initiation in cyclic tension is as low as 3.4 M Pam1/2, and catastrophic failure occurs at K=6.6 M Pam1/2. For crack length less than 1 mm and for plane strain conditions, growth rates are highly discontinuous, and periodic crack arrest is observed after growth over distances of the order of tens of micrometres. Crack advance could only be resumed with an increase in the far-field stress intensity range. The mechanisms of short crack advance in cyclic tension are similar to those observed under quasi-static loads, and the tensile fatigue effect appears to be a manifestation of static failure modes. A model is presented to provide an overall framework for the tensile fatigue crack growth characteristics of partially stabilized zirconia. Experimental results are also described to demonstrate the possibility of stable room temperature crack growth under cyclic tension in fine-grained tetragonal zirconia polycrystals, partially stabilized with Y2O3. The growth of cracks in transformation-toughened ceramics is found to be strongly influenced by the crack size and shape, stress state and specimen geometry. 相似文献

Biomarkers are measurable indicators of a biological state. As our understanding of diseases meliorates, it is generally accepted that early diagnosis renders the best chance to cure a disease. In the context of proteomics, the discovery phase of identifying bonafide biomarkers and the ensuing validation phase involving large cohort of patient samples are impeded by the complexity of bodily fluid samples. High abundant proteins found in blood plasma make it difficult for the detection of low abundant proteins that may be potential biomarkers. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have reignited interest in the field of biomarker discovery. EVs contain a tissue-type signature wherein a rich cargo of proteins and RNA are selectively packaged. In addition, as EVs are membranous structures, the luminal contents are protected from degradation by extracellular proteases and are highly stable in storage conditions. Interestingly, an appealing feature of EV-based biomarker analysis is the significant reduction in the sample complexity compared to whole bodily fluids. With these prescribed attributes, which are the rate-limiting factors of traditional biomarker analysis, there is immense potential for the use of EVs for biomarker detection in clinical settings. Recognizing a subject given a set of biometrics is a fundamental pattern recognition problem. This paper builds novel statistical models for multibiometric systems using geometric and multinomial distributions. These models are generic as they are only based on the similarity scores produced by a recognition system. They predict the bounds on the range of indices within which a test subject is likely to be present in a sorted set of similarity scores. These bounds are then used in the multibiometric recognition system to predict a smaller subset of subjects from the database as probable candidates for a given test subject. Experimental results show that the proposed models enhance the recognition rate beyond the underlying matching algorithms for multiple face views, fingerprints, palm prints, irises and their combinations. 相似文献

In this article, frequency tuning and circularly polarized concentric circular microstrip antenna is investigated. The proposed antenna consist of varactor diode for frequency tuning and branch line coupler (BLC) feed network to achieve the circular polarization (RHCP/LHCP). By changing the varactor diode capacitance between 12.33 pF (0 V) to 1.30 pF (15 V) attain the frequency tuning (2.34‐2.68 GHz). The right hand circular polarization (RHCP) and left hand circular polarizations (LHCP) are realized in the antenna through BLC feed network output ports. The impedance bandwidth (2.05‐3.13 GHz) of BLC feed network is well‐matched with the circular microstrip antenna frequency tunable bandwidth. The proposed antenna is fabricated, and simulated results are verified using the mathematical modeling and experimental verification. 相似文献
