The recycling of greywater is an integral part of a water management system owing to the scarcity of fresh water resources. This article explores the effectiveness of an aerobic sequencing batch reactor in treating nutrient‐deficit and nutrient‐spiked dark greywater for agricultural reuse. The dark greywater in the present investigation had a COD:N:P ratio of 100:1.82:0.76, while the preferred ratio for biological oxidation is 100:5:1 (COD, chemical oxygen demand). The aerobic oxidation of nutrient‐deficit and nutrient‐spiked dark greywater with a COD:N:P ratio of 100:2.5:0.5; 100:3.5:0.75 and 100:5:1 resulted in outlet COD values of 64; 35; 15 and 12 mg L?1, with a corresponding BOD5 value of 37; 22; 10 and 8 mg L?1 at 36 h hydraulic retention time (HRT). Hence treatment of nutrient‐added dark greywater at a COD:N:P ratio 100:3.5:0.75 and 100:5:1 for 36 h HRT complied with the Malaysian discharge standards for agricultural activities. Treated greywater has the potential for consideration as a resource, since it can be used as a supplement or replacement for potable water in landscape irrigation and other agricultural activities in rural and urban areas. It is shown that spin-polarized currents occur in metallic and ferromagnetic Ga1–x Mn x As/GaAs multilayered structures, as a result of the magnetic interaction between holes and the Mn ions. The magnetic layers act as potential barriers for holes with spins aligned parallel to the layer magnetization, and as potential wells for the inverse spin polarization. In the case of currents in-plane, holes with spin parallel and antiparallel to this magnetization move in different regions. By choosing properly the magnetic and the nonmagnetic layers widths, a spin-polarized transport with a difference of an order of magnitude on the mobilities for each spin polarization is predicted to occur. Spin-polarized minibands are also shown to occur in a superlattice based on the same structure. We calculated the dependence of the spin polarization with the superlattice parameters, and we discuss how this polarization affects the Bloch miniband transport in such ferromagnetic superlattice.  相似文献

The reactivity of 4-nitrophenyl esters has been studied against an optically active microgel copolymer containing hydroxamic acid pendant groups. Saturation phenomena are observed in the kinetics consistent with formation of a complex followed by reaction of the ester in the complexed species. The polymer discriminates between R- and S-forms of a chiral substrate in both complexing and catalytic steps. The data are consistent with the existence of chiral spaces in the microgel bead which accept the chiral substrate. The selectivity of the polymer for the chiral substrate (α ~ 2) compares favourably with that shown by conventional chiral chromatographic supports.  相似文献

Thin and transparent films of doped cadmium sulfide (CdS) were obtained on commercial glass substrates by Chemical Bath Deposition (CBD) technique. The films were doped with low concentration of Sn, and annealed in air at 300 °C for 45 min. The morphological characterization of the films with different amounts of dopant was made using SEM and EDAX analysis. Optical properties of the films were evaluated by measuring transmittance using the UV-vis spectrophotometer. A comparison of the results revealed that lower concentration of Sn doping improves transmittance of CdS films and makes them suitable for application as window layer of CdTe/CIGS solar cells.  相似文献

Epoxy composites filled with nano- and micro-sized silver (Ag) particulate fillers were prepared and characterized based on flexural properties, coefficient of thermal expansion, dynamic mechanical analysis, electrical conductivity, and morphological properties. The influences of these two types of Ag fillers, especially in terms of their sizes and shapes, were investigated. Silver nanoparticles were nano-sized and spherical, while silver flakes were micron-sized and flaky. It was found that the flexural strength of the epoxy composite filled with silver flakes decreased, while the flexural strength of the epoxy composite filled with silver nanoparticles showed an optimum value at 4 vol.% before it subsequently dropped. Both silver composites showed improvement in flexural modulus with increasing filler loads. CTE value indicated significant decrements in filled samples compared to neat epoxy. Results on the electrical conductivity of both systems showed a transition from insulation to conduction at 6 vol.%.  相似文献

Cathodic electrodeposition in the presence of EDTA in aqueous solution was found to offer some noteworthy improvements in our attempt to synthesise an SnS thin film. EDTA has shown its capacity for improving the longevity of the deposition bath as well as the adhesion of the deposited film on a titanium substrate. Photoelectrochemical analysis reveals outstanding photoactivity of the electrodeposited thin film, while an optical study shows an energy gap of approximately 1.1 eV. The effects of chelating agent were extracted from the results of cyclic voltammetry, photoelectrochemical test, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction spectroscopy. The latter which displays better defined signals reaffirms the appreciable improvement in the polycrystallinity of the thin film. Analysis of peak locations, coincidentally, confirms that SnS of Herzenbergite form has been obtained.  相似文献

The use of cooling and heating thermograms from differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) for monitoring the presence of genuine lard (GLD), beef tallow (BT), chicken fat (CF) as adulterants in canola oil has been investigated. Mixing of animal fats especially lard and tallow in any form in food products is a cause of concern for certain religions. Canola oil samples spiked separately with BT, GLD and CF in levels ranging from 1 to 20% (w/w) were analysed by DSC to obtain their cooling and heating profiles. The heating measurements showed that detection of GLD and BT adulterations could be possible based on characteristic differences of GLD and BT adulteration peaks appearing in the higher temperature region of heating thermograms while cooling measurements showed that BT adulteration could be determined by a distinct exothermic peak appearing in the higher temperature region of the cooling thermograms. The determination of GLD by cooling measurements could not be possible since the changes due to GLD and CF adulterations were very similar.  相似文献
