Recently, a novel method of measuring the thermophysical properties, particularly thermal conductivity, of high-temperature molten materials using the electromagnetic levitation technique has been developed by Kobatake et al. [H. Kobatake, H. Fukuyama, I. Minato, T. Tsukada, S. Awaji, Noncontact measurement of thermal conductivity of liquid silicon in a static magnetic field, Appl. Phys. Lett. 90 (2007) 094102]; this method is based on a periodic laser-heating method, and entails the superimposing of a static magnetic field to suppress convection in an electromagnetically levitated droplet. In this work, to confirm the fact that a static magnetic field really suppresses convection in a molten silicon droplet in an electromagnetic levitator, numerical simulations of convection in the droplet and periodic laser heating in the presence of convection have been carried out. Here, the convections driven by buoyancy force, thermocapillary force due to the temperature dependence of the surface tension on the melt surface, and electromagnetic force in the droplet were considered. As a result, it was found that applying a static magnetic field of 4 T can suppress convection in a molten silicon droplet enough to measure the real thermal conductivity of molten silicon. 相似文献

Preparation of Pt-loaded TiO2 nanofibers and their catalytic performance for water gas shift (WGS) reactions have been explained in this work. The Pt-loaded TiO2 nanofibers were obtained by electrospinning poly-ethylene oxide (PEO) aqueous solutions containing Ti(OH)n slurry and Pt nanoparticles at room temperature, followed by calcination at 773 K for 4 h. The calcined nanofibers were rougher than the nanofibers of PEO/Ti(OH)n/Pt due to the PEO degradation and oxidation of Ti(OH)n to TiO2. Diameters of the Pt-loaded TiO2 nanofibers ranged between 200 and 900 nm. Catalytic activity of the Pt-loaded TiO2 nanofibers for water gas shift (WGS) reactions was evaluated and it was observed that their activity was 5–7 times higher than that of a bulk catalyst. Such improvement is attributed to the larger surface area of the nanofiber catalyst compared to that of the bulk catalyst. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of a synthesis of Pt-loaded TiO2 nanofibers from a Ti(OH)n nanoparticle slurry using electrospinning and its application to WGS reactions. 相似文献

We have investigated the applicability of simulations and theoretical techniques for exploring the selectivities of hydrogen isotopes. We have simulated the adsorption isotherms of H2 in an idealized carbon slit pore at 77 K by using the grand canonical Monte Carlo simulations with the Feynman-Hibbs effective potential (FH-GCMC) and the rigorous path integral method (PI-GCMC), and we obtained good agreement between the isotherms from both simulations. This suggests that FH-GCMC, which uses the approximative Feynman-Hibbs treatment, is as useful as PI-GCMC for exploring H2 adsorption at 77 K. Moreover, we show that the ideal adsorption solution theory (IAST) can predict the selectivity of D2 over H2 in the interstices of single-wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) bundles at 77 K (below 0.1 MPa) very well by comparing the obtained results with the mixture adsorption FH-GCMC simulations. This indicates that IAST is also applicable to the estimation of the selectivity of D2 over H2 at moderate pressures and at 77 K from experimental single-component adsorption isotherms. We also demonstrate that the FH-GCMC simulation can reproduce the experimental adsorption isotherms of H2 and D2 in aluminophosphate AlPO4-5 at 77 K. Finally, we analyze the selectivity of D2 over H2 by IAST with the experimental single-component adsorption isotherms of H2 and D2 at 77 K for a variety of adsorbents: AlPO4-5, activated carbon fibers (ACFs), HiPco SWNT, and SWNHs. Characterization of the microbial community in an anaerobic ammonium-oxidizing biofilm cultured on a nonwoven biomass carrier 总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7
The enrichment and characterization of anaerobic ammonium-oxidizing biofilm cultures are ongoing in our laboratories. Biomass, with a predominately red color, demonstrating simultaneous removal of ammonium and nitrite under autotrophic and anoxic conditions, which is characteristic of anaerobic ammonium-oxidizing planctomycetes, was enriched and maintained for an extended period on a polyester nonwoven carrier. To investigate the bacterial composition of the mature biofilm community, 16S rDNA sequences were amplified by PCR and comparative analyses using DNA databases were conducted. Only one sequence had a notable similarity (92.2%) to that of the first discovered anaerobic ammonium-oxidizing planctomycete and lesser, yet significant, similarities to the 16S rDNA sequences of other recently reported anaerobic ammonium-oxidizing strains. The newly discovered strain (designated KSU-1) reported here was dominant among detectable members of the biofilm community. By fluorescence imaging, KSU-1 was shown to form spherical clusters wrapped in a thin layer of Zoogloea sp. Possible interactions and interdependencies of these two species are discussed with regard to the putative unculturability of the anaerobic ammonium-oxidizing planctomycetes. 相似文献

Existing mechanical relays have reliability-related issues including unstable contact resistance and limited cycle life. These problems are caused by mechanical fatigue and wearing of the contact surfaces. In the liquid metal micro switch (LiMMS), we employ a liquid-liquid contact to address these issues. The switching operation is achieved by forming a gap in the liquid metal using gas expansion. Our prototype has a microchannel on a glass substrate to hold a tiny amount of mercury, 0.15 mm in width and 0.1 mm in height, and TaN thin-film heaters on a ceramic substrate to expand the operating gas by heating. The substrates are bonded together and the total size of the device is 5/spl times/5/spl times/1.4 mm. We successfully demonstrated 70-m/spl Omega/ on-resistance, 1 ms-switching speed, the ability to handle up to 1 A of dc current and over 1/spl times/10/sup 8/ cycle operation. LiMMS also has good RF performance, better than 1 dB insertion loss, and better than 20 dB isolation up to 18 GHz. 相似文献

Abstract— Thin‐film transistors (TFTs) are field‐effect transistors that can be used to create large‐scale‐integrated (LSI) circuits. The combination of high‐performance TFTs and transfer technology of the TFTs has the potential to foster the rise of a new flexible microelectronics industry. This paper discusses the current status of flexible microelectronics, using a TFT fingerprint sensor (FPS) as an example. Technology used in active‐matrix displays can easily be applied to the TFT FPS. TFT technology should not be confined to the display industry; its use should be expanded into the semiconductor industry. A pneumatically actuated silicon microvalve applicable to integrated microfluidic systems is presented. All the ports of this microvalve are in-channel, and connectable to any surface fluid channels in microfluidic systems. This microvalve controls fluid flow by means of the controlled gap between glass and silicon diaphragm actuated by a control pressure. In addition, the diaphragm is also deformed by the outlet pressure of the microvalve. Due to the feature, this microvalve shows saturation of flow rate like MOSFETs operated at saturation region. The fabricated microvalve device was evaluated focusing on analogous relationship between MOSFET and the microvalve. Fluids such as air and DI-water were well controlled by the control pressure. Fluid starts to flow in the microvalve when the control pressure exceeds its "threshold pressure." Hysteresis due to sticking of diaphragm was not observed in the characteristics. Air flow rate of the microvalve was gradually saturated with the increasing of the outlet pressure as expected. Through the evaluation, analogous relationship between this microvalve and MOSFET has been experimentally demonstrated. 相似文献
