Wavelength conversion via four-wave mixing in an optical fiber is investigated under a pump intensity dependent phase-matching condition. To obtain a high conversion gain, we use a fiber with a small mode-field diameter (4.2 /spl mu/m) and a small dispersion slope (0.0307 ps/km/nm/sup 2/). When the signal wavelength is set so that it is 9.2 nm longer than the zero-dispersion wavelength of the fiber, we obtain a wavelength conversion gain of greater than 5 dB over a pump wavelength region of more than 8 nm.  相似文献

The Akebono (EXOS-D) satellite has been successfully observing the Earth's magnetosphere since it was launched on February 21, 1989. The objectives of VLF instruments on board the satellite were to investigate the behavior of plasma waves associated with accelerated auroral particles, wave-particle interaction mechanisms, and propagation characteristics of whistler-mode waves in the magnetosphere. The instruments measured not only the dynamic spectra of VLF waves up to 15 kHz by a wideband receiver, but also their absolute field intensities, wave normal vectors, and Poynting vectors. Two electric and three magnetic components with a bandwidth of about 50 Hz up to 12.5 kHz are sent to measure the wave normal vectors and Poynting vectors. The antenna impedance is measured to determine the correct absolute electric field intensities. The instruments have successfully measured the wave spectra, the wave normal vectors. Poynting vectors, the precise wave intensities, the antenna impedance, etc. The present paper describes the unique features of the instruments, especially the Poynting flux analyzers in more detail. Rate distortion theory is considered for the Shannon cipher system (SCS). The admissible region of cryptogram rate R, key rate Rk, legitimate receiver's distortion D, and wiretapper's uncertainty h is determined for the SCS with a noisy channel. In a slot-coupled microstrip antenna with a triplate line feed, the parallel-plate mode is excited by the slot, resulting in a decrease of radiation efficiency. Research and development of OCR systems are considered from a historical point of view. The historical development of commercial systems is included. Both template matching and structure analysis approaches to R&D are considered. It is noted that the two approaches are coming closer and tending to merge. Commercial products are divided into three generations, for each of which some representative OCR systems are chosen and described in some detail. Some comments are made on recent techniques applied to OCR, such as expert systems and neural networks, and some open problems are indicated. Precious metals (Pt and Pd) and rare earth elements (Ce in the form of CeO2) are typical materials for heterogeneous exhaust‐gas catalysts in automotive systems. However, their limited resources and high market‐driven prices are principal issues in realizing the path toward a more sustainable society. In this regard, herein, a nanoporous NiCuMnO catalyst, which is both abundant and durable, is synthesized by one‐step free dealloying. The catalyst thus developed exhibits catalytic activity and durability for NO reduction and CO oxidation. Microstructure characterization indicates a distinct structural feature: catalytically active Cu/CuO regions are tangled with a stable nanoporous NiMnO network after activation. The results obtained by in situ transmission electron microscopy during NO reduction clearly capture the unique reaction‐induced self‐transformation of the nanostructure. This finding can possibly pave the way for the design of new catalysts for the conversion of exhaust gas based on the element strategy.  相似文献

A 2/sup 9/-1 pseudorandom-binary-sequence soliton signal has been transmitted experimentally over one million km for the first time with no degradation in the bit error rates. The synchronous modulator was driven by a timing clock signal extracted from the transmitting data signal. These results mean that it is possible to send soliton data signals over unlimited distances through the use of soliton control in the time and frequency domains.<>  相似文献

The applications of AlGaAs semiconductor laser preamplifier and linear repeaters in single mode optical fiber transmission systems were studied through the baseband signal-to-noise ratio and bit error rate performance measurement. Experiments were carried out with the Fabry-Perot cavity laser amplifiers whose characteristics are improved by reducing the input mirror reflectivity to 6 percent. The use of a preamplifier improves the minimum detectable power by 7.4 dB over the Si-APD direct detection level when the received signal is amplified by 30 dB before photodetection. The use of two linear repeaters increases the regenerative repeater gain by 37 dB. These experimental results are in good agreement with theoretical predictions based on the photon statistic master equation analysis.  相似文献

Baseband signal-to-noise-ratio characteristics in an AlGaAs laser preamplifier and a linear repeater system were studied theoretically and experimentally. The AlGaAs laser preamplifier improved the minimum detectable power by 1.6 dB over the level achieved by direct detection with an Si APD. 37 dB regenerative repeater gain was experimentally obtained in the system with two optical repeaters at 100 Mbit/s data rate.  相似文献

Drawing-induced defect centres are investigated in pure silica optical fibres drawn from the preforms consolidated in O2-including atmospheres. The drawing-induced E? centres decrease while the peroxy radicals increase with increasing flow rate of O2 into the consolidation furnance.
