Bipedal animals experience ground reaction forces (GRFs) that pass close to the centre of mass (CoM) throughout stance, first decelerating the body, then re-accelerating it during the second half of stance. This results in fluctuations in kinetic energy, requiring mechanical work from the muscles. However, here we show analytically that, in extreme cases (with a very large body pitch moment of inertia), continuous alignment of the GRF through the CoM requires greater mechanical work than a maintained vertical force; we show numerically that GRFs passing between CoM and vertical throughout stance are energetically favourable under realistic conditions; and demonstrate that the magnitude, if not the precise form, of actual CoM-torque profiles in running is broadly consistent with simple mechanical work minimization for humans with appropriate pitch moment of inertia. While the potential energetic savings of CoM-torque support strategies are small (a few per cent) over the range of human running, their importance increases dramatically at high speeds and stance angles. Fast, compliant runners or hoppers would benefit considerably from GRFs more vertical than the zero-CoM-torque strategy, especially with bodies of high pitch moment of inertia—suggesting a novel advantage to kangaroos of their peculiar long-head/long-tail structure.  相似文献

Eight types of PVC + CPE blends with different weight ratios (PVC/CPE = 100/0, 90/10, 80/20, 60/40, 40/60, 20/80, 10/90, and 0/100) are tested. Data on the heat conductivity, thermal diffusivity, and heat capacity of the blends investigated are reported. Primary attention is paid to the structural approach for effective elastic constants: bulk, shear, and Young's modulae. The blends are considered as random mixtures of two isotropic constituents. It is found that the elastic moduli may be well represented by the Kerner and Budiansky equations.  相似文献

Data from total synchronous fluorescence spectroscopy (TSFS) measurements of normal and malignant breast tissue samples are introduced in supervised self-organizing maps, a type of artificial neural network (ANN), to obtain diagnosis. Three spectral regions in both TSFS patterns and first-derivative TSFS patterns exhibited clear differences between normal and malignant tissue groups, and intensities measured from these regions served as inputs to neural networks. Histology findings are used as the gold standard to train self-organizing maps in a supervised way. Diagnostic accuracy of this procedure is evaluated with sample test groups for two cases, when the neural network uses TSFS data and when the neural network uses data from first-derivative TSFS. In the first case diagnostic sensitivity of 87.1% and specificity of 91.7% are found, while in the second case sensitivity of 100% and specificity of 94.4% are achieved.  相似文献

Results of a preliminary effectiveness evaluation of a school-based postwar program for war-exposed Bosnian adolescents are described. The evaluation centered on a manualized trauma/grief-focused group psychotherapy protocol for war-traumatized adolescents based on 5 therapeutic foci: traumatic experiences, trauma and loss reminders, postwar adversities, bereavement and the interplay of trauma and grief, and developmental impact. Fifty-five secondary school students (81% girls; age range?=?15–19 years, M?=?16.81) from 10 Bosnian schools participated in the evaluation. Students completed pregroup and postgroup self-report measures of posttraumatic stress, depression, and grief symptoms and postgroup measures of psychosocial adaptation and group satisfaction. The evaluation yielded preliminary but promising results, including reduced psychological distress and positive associations between distress reduction and psychosocial adaptation. In this work we present the results on formation of ZnO nanorods prepared by spray of aqueous solutions containing ZnCl2 and thiocarbamide (tu) at different molar ratios. It has been observed that addition of thiocarbamide into the spray solution has great impact on the size, shape and phase composition of the ZnO crystals. Obtained layers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with energy selected backscattered electron detection system (ESB), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL). Small addition of thiocarbamide into ZnCl2 solution (ZnCl2:tu = 1:0.25) supports development of significantly thinner ZnO nanorods with higher aspect ratio compared to those obtained from ZnCl2 solution. Diameter of ZnO rods decreases from 270 to 100 nm and aspect ratio increases from ∼2.5 to 12 spraying ZnCl2 and ZnCl2:tu solutions, respectively. According to XRD, well crystallized (002) orientated pure wurtzite ZnO crystals have been formed. However, tiny ‘spot’—like formations of ZnS were detected on the side planes of hexagonal rods prepared from the thiocarbamide containing solutions. Being adsorbed on the side facets of the crystals ZnS inhibits width growth and promotes longitudinal c-axis growth.  相似文献

In the following review we discuss several types of nanoparticles (such as TiO2, quantum dots, and gold nanoparticles) and their impact on the ability to image biological components in fixed cells. The review also discusses factors influencing nanoparticle imaging and uptake in live cells in vitro. Due to their unique size-dependent properties nanoparticles offer numerous advantages over traditional dyes and proteins. For example, the photostability, narrow emission peak, and ability to rationally modify both the size and surface chemistry of Quantum Dots allow for simultaneous analyses of multiple targets within the same cell. On the other hand, the surface characteristics of nanometer sized TiO2 allow efficient conjugation to nucleic acids which enables their retention in specific subcellular compartments. We discuss cellular uptake mechanisms for the internalization of nanoparticles and studies showing the influence of nanoparticle size and charge and the cell type targeted on nanoparticle uptake. The predominant nanoparticle uptake mechanisms include clathrin-dependent mechanisms, macropinocytosis, and phagocytosis.  相似文献
