A visualizing technique for indentation damage of ceramics was developed. Plasma etching was used to enhance the view of cracks and the subsurface microcracking crush zone following Knoop indentation of hot pressed Si3 N4 . The microcracking zone was readily identified from the surface view of the indented surface as a grain-falling-off region (GFOR), defined as a region in which grains were removed by preferential etching using CF4 gas, followed by ultrasonic cleaning. A fissure-like opening corresponding to the indentation cracks was also observed. It is inferred that the formation of the GFOR region and the fissure-like opening were caused by the etching/cleaning treatment. Meanwhile, the etching on a section which included diagonals of the impression provided a section view of the microcracking zone. 相似文献

Three experiments investigated the effects of varying the conditioned stimulus (CS) duration between training and extinction. Ring doves (Streptopelia risoria) were autoshaped on a fixed CS-unconditioned stimulus (US) interval and extinguished with CS presentations that were longer, shorter, or the same as the training duration. During a subsequent test session, the training CS duration was reintroduced. Results suggest that the cessation of responding during an extinction session is controlled by generalization of excitation between the training and extinction CSs and by the number of nonreinforced CS presentations. Transfer of extinction to the training CS is controlled by the similarity between the extinction and training CSs. Extinction learning is temporally specific. Tungsten (W) and molybdenum (Mo) were coated on silicon carbide (SiC) for use as a refractory armor using a high power plasma arc lamp at powers up to 23.5 MW/m2 in an argon flow environment. Both tungsten powder and molybdenum powder melted and formed coating layers on silicon carbide within a few seconds. The effect of substrate pre-treatment (vapor deposition of titanium (Ti) and tungsten, and annealing) and sample heating conditions on microstructure of the coating and coating/substrate interface were investigated. The microstructure was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and optical microscopy (OM). The mechanical properties of the coated materials were evaluated by four-point flexural tests. A strong tungsten coating was successfully applied to the silicon carbide substrate. Tungsten vapor deposition and pre-heating at 5.2 MW/m2 made for a refractory layer containing no cracks propagating into the silicon carbide substrate. The tungsten coating was formed without the thick reaction layer. For this study, small tungsten carbide grains were observed adjacent to the interface in all conditions. In addition, relatively large, widely scattered tungsten carbide grains and a eutectic structure of tungsten and silicon were observed through the thickness in the coatings formed at lower powers and longer heating times. The strength of the silicon carbide substrate was somewhat decreased as a result of the processing. Vapor deposition of tungsten prior to powder coating helped prevent this degradation. In contrast, molybdenum coating was more challenging than tungsten coating due to the larger coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) mismatch as compared to tungsten and silicon carbide. From this work it is concluded that refractory armoring of silicon carbide by Infrared Transient Liquid Phase Processing is possible. This paper presents a moving-coil electromagnetic optical scanner with newly developed hinge structure consisting of multilayered polyimide films with aluminum lead wires in between. The main purpose is to obtain a scanner with good durability and shock resistance for practical use. Polyimide has both features, and the aluminum lead wires, connecting the moving-coils and fixed electrode pads, are more reliable, because they are located inside the hinge, where the stress caused by torsional deformation and atmospheric degradation are minimal. An electromagnetic actuator is used to satisfy the following requirements; a millimeter-sized mirror, resonant and galvanometric operation, and scan angle control. Scanner prototypes with two different specifications (i.e., fast scanner and slow scanner) were fabricated and characterized. Driven with a sinusoidal current of ±20 mA, the fast scanner and the slow one vibrated with an optical scan angle (&thetas;o) of 1° at the resonant frequency (fr) of 1.7 kHz and &thetas;o of 60° at fr of 72 Hz, respectively. Durability was demonstrated with a shock test of 2500 G and a life test of over 13 000 h. Diamondlike carbon (DLC) films show high hardness, high electric resistivity, and the self‐lubricant characteristic, and many applications and synthesis methods have been reported. Pulse plasma chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is one of the synthesis methods suitable for DLC films on complicated form work, such as molding and extruding die. Ordinary, microsecond‐order pulse is used in this method. This paper describes the development of the synthesis method using nanosecond‐order pulse plasma CVD for DLC films. To realize this process, a static induction (SI) thyristor with an inductive energy storage (IES) circuit was used. Compared with microsecond, nanosecond‐order pulse plasma CVD method shows the characteristics of high electron temperature and exponential relationship between pulse frequency and growth rate. The characteristics of the thus‐obtained DLC films show two broad peaks of the disordered band at 1360 cm?1 and the graphitic band at 1580 cm?1 by Raman spectroscopy and hardness of 16.0 GPa and elastic modulus of 170 GPa. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. (–)‐Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg) is the major component of green tea and is known to show strong biological activity, although it can be easily oxidized under physiological conditions. In this study, we indicate that EGCg is stable in human serum and that human serum albumin (HSA) stabilizes EGCg under aerobic condition. Although EGCg is usually decomposed within 1 h in aqueous solution at neutral pH, EGCg in serum and phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) containing HSA was stable over 1 h, even at neutral and slightly alkaline pH. Under these conditions, EGCg binds to HSA non‐covalently. The sulfhydryl group acts as an antioxidant for EGCg oxidation. Incubation of EGCg with HSA is accompanied by the oxidation of a free sulfhydryl group in HSA. These results suggest that the antioxidant property and the binding capacity of HSA contribute to the stabilization of EGCg in human serum. 相似文献

Ge/Si heterojunctions formed by wet wafer bonding were observed using transmission electron microscopy and energy-dispersive
x-ray spectroscopy. For the samples annealed at 880°C, there was a transition layer at the heterointerface with modified regions
in the Si and Ge extending 20 nm to 30 nm from the interface. In these modified regions, crystal defects were observed, and
a large amount of Ge was detected on the Si side of the junction. For the samples annealed at 250°C or 350°C, the transition
layers had an amorphous-like structure with a thickness of about 10 nm. No modified layer or enlargement of lattice spacing

The thickness-fringe method [Ishida et al., Philosophical Magazine 42 (1980) 453] for complete determination of the character of a dislocation Burgers vector has been performed in CaIrO3 perovskite and post-perovskite deformed at high pressures and high temperatures. By selecting several main zone axes and determining the number of terminating thickness fringes at the extremity of a dislocation from a wedge-shaped thin-foil specimen in weak-beam dark-field transmission electron microscope (TEM) images, the Burgers vectors were unambiguously determined. The results demonstrate that [1 0 0] screw and edge dislocations on the (0 1 0) slip plane are dominant in the post-perovskite phase. Curved [1 0 0] and [0 1 0] dislocations and straight 〈1 1 0〉 screw dislocations on a potential (0 0 1) slip plane were identified in the perovskite phase as well as a high density of {1 1 0} twins. Low-angle tilt boundaries consisting of different groups of parallel edge dislocations on the {1 1 0} and (0 0 1) planes indicate diffusion-assisted climb in perovskite at high temperatures. The differences in dislocation microstructures could be due to activations of limited numbers of slip systems for post-perovskite and of a large number of multiple slip systems for perovskite, which may result in the strong crystallographic preferred orientation (CPO) in post-perovskite and the lack of CPO in deformed perovskite. 相似文献

The failure properties of high-strength fiber splices following proof tests are studied experimentally and theoretically. It is clarified that splice strength can be improved by conducting proof tests and that the strength distribution and the time-to-failure after a proof test can be predicted theoretically. The thermodynamic properties of double oxides in rare earth-transition metal (V and Mn)-oxygen ternary systems have been collected and evaluated to examine their stability using chemical potential diagrams plotted as log (αA /αB ) vs log ( P (O2 )). The thermodynamic regularities of perovskites, pyrochlores, and other compounds have been discussed in terms of the effective ionic radii across a series of rare earths. The obtained regularities have been used to estimate tentatively the thermodynamic properties of some rare-earth vanadium and manganese oxides. 相似文献
