Atherosclerosis has been known in medicine for several centuries. As early as 1755, the Swedish anatomist Albrecht von Haller used the term “atheroma” to describe vascular lesions. Atherosclerosis may originate from an unbalanced diet or bad habits, and is mainly found in developed countries. Clinical trials have been conducted to establish the causes of atherosclerosis, and also to develop treatments for this disease. However, prevention of the disease has always been better than treatment, so vaccination may be the key to saving thousands of lives. The creation of a vaccine may be directly related to the study of autoimmune processes occurring in the body, immunity. This review considers the issues related to the involvement of the immune response in the development of atherosclerotic lesions. Modern concepts of atherogenesis, immune inflammation in atherosclerosis, and potential vaccine targets are also discussed. There is a particular focus on experimental and clinical data supporting the development of immune therapies to reduce cardiovascular risk.  相似文献

In this review, we provide an illustration of the idea discussed in the literature of using model compounds to study the effect of substitution of L- for D-amino acid residues in amyloid peptides. The need for modeling is due to the inability to study highly disordered peptides by traditional methods (high-field NMR, X-ray). At the same time, the appearance of such peptides, where L-amino acids are partially replaced by D-analogs is one of the main causes of Alzheimer’s disease. The review presents examples of the use diastereomers with L-/D-tryptophan in model process—photoinduced electron transfer (ET) for studying differences in reactivity and structure of systems with L- and D-optical isomers. The combined application of spin effects, including those calculated using the original theory, fluorescence techniques and molecular modeling has demonstrated a real difference in the structure and efficiency of ET in diastereomers with L-/D-tryptophan residues. In addition, the review compared the factors governing chiral inversion in model metallopeptides and Aβ42 amyloid.  相似文献

Further developments and investigations in the area of fusion energy devices require extensive and comprehensive computer simulations with great precision to evaluate reactor components behavior during normal and transient events. In this work we performed detailed study of the first wall (FW) subjected to high heat flux during a vertical displacement event (VDE) with various initial steady-state conditions and heat flux histories for the transient plasma energy deposition. We calculated the spatial temperature profile through out the entire module and the maximum surface temperature, as well as melting and vaporization thickness of Be surface during VDE and just before thermal quench (TQ). We further studied possible potential damage to plasma facing components (PFC) and structural materials for VDEs with higher energy loads than currently estimated.  相似文献

The sulfated polysaccharides from brown algae – the fucoidans – are known to be a topic of numerous studies, due to their beneficial biological activities including anti-tumour activity. In this study the effect of fucoidans isolated from brown algae Saccharina cichorioides, Fucus evanescens, and Undaria pinnatifida on the proliferation, neoplastic transformation, and colony formation of mouse epidermal cells JB6 Cl41, human colon cancer DLD-1, breast cancer T-47D, and melanoma RPMI-7951 cell lines was investigated. The algal fucoidans specifically and markedly suppressed the proliferation of human cancer cells with less cytotoxic effects against normal mouse epidermal cells. The highly sulfated (1 → 3)-α-l-fucan from S. cichorioides was found to be vitally important in the inhibition of EGF-induced neoplastic transformation of JB6 Cl41 cells. In colony formation assay the fucoidans from different species of brown algae showed selective anti-tumour activity against different types of cancer, which depended on unique structures of the investigated polysaccharides. These results provide evidence for further exploring the use of the fucoidans from S. cichorioides, F. evanescens, and U. pinnatifida as novel chemotherapeutics against different types of cancer.  相似文献

Photocatalytic activity of TiO2 nanopowders of anatase modification with various particle sizes and specific surface areas has been studied in the process of photocatalytic decolorization of aqueous solutions of methylene blue and direct blue 2C azodyes. By means of scanning electron microscopy and low-temperature N2 adsorption method, it was found that TiO2 nanopowders have the particles size of 5-120 nm with the specific surface area of 15-120 m2·g^-1. The used TiO2 samples are characterized by mesoporous structures with average pore size of 4.3-14.9 nm. The photocatalytic activity of TiO2 was evaluated via decolorization of azodyes solutions. It was shown that the efficiency of decolorization symbatically changes with the dye adsorption value on TiO2 surface and the degree of decolorization rises when the surface area of TiO2 nanopowders increases. It was found that TiO2 photocatalytic activity essentially depends on adsorption interactions between the dye molecules and catalytic active centers on TiO2 surface, and these interactions, in turn, are greatly affected by pH of the solution.  相似文献

Abstract— New ferroelectric liquid crystals (FLCs) on the basis of the eutectic mixture of phenylbenzoate derivatives including chiral components (CCs) with a different number and position of carbonyl groups in their molecular core have been investigated. The ferroelectric characteristics such as the spontaneous polarization, smectic tilt angle, rotational viscosity, and repolarization time as well as their concentration dependences are analyzed. On the basis of the previous and obtained results, the influence of peculiarities of the molecular structure of CCs on mentioned properties of FLCs are generalized.  相似文献

Organic crystalline materials are used as dyes/pigments, pharmaceuticals, and active components of photonic and electronic devices. There is great interest in integrating organic crystals with inorganic and carbon nanomaterials to create nanocomposites with enhanced properties. Such efforts are hampered by the difficulties in interfacing organic crystals with dissimilar materials. Here, an approach that employs organic nanocrystallization is presented to fabricate solution‐processed organic nanocrystal/carbon nanotube (ONC/CNT) hybrid materials based on readily available organic dyes (perylene diimides (PDIs)) and carbon nanotubes. The hybrids are prepared by self‐assembly in aqueous media to afford free‐standing films with tunable CNT content. These exhibit excellent conductivities (as high as 5.78 ± 0.56 S m?1), and high thermal stability that are superior to common polymer/CNT hybrids. The color of the hybrids can be tuned by adding various PDI derivatives. ONC/CNT hybrids represent a novel class of nanocomposites, applicable as optoelectronic and conductive colorant materials.  相似文献

COVID-19 is a highly contagious new infection caused by the single-stranded RNA Sars-CoV-2 virus. For the first time, this infection was recorded in December 2019 in the Chinese province of Wuhan. The virus presumably crossed the interspecies barrier and passed to humans from a bat. Initially, the disease was considered exclusively in the context of damage to the respiratory system, but it quickly became clear that the disease also entails serious consequences from various systems, including the cardiovascular system. Among these consequences are myocarditis, myocardial damage, subsequent heart failure, myocardial infarction, and Takotsubo syndrome. On the other hand, clinical data indicate that the presence of chronic diseases in a patient aggravates the course and outcome of coronavirus infection. In this context, the relationship between COVID-19 and atherosclerosis, a condition preceding cardiovascular disease and other disorders of the heart and blood vessels, is particularly interesting. The renin-angiotensin system is essential for the pathogenesis of both coronavirus disease and atherosclerosis. In particular, it has been shown that ACE2, an angiotensin-converting enzyme 2, plays a key role in Sars-CoV-2 infection due to its receptor activity. It is noteworthy that this enzyme is important for the normal functioning of the cardiovascular system. Disruptions in its production and functioning can lead to various disorders, including atherosclerosis.  相似文献
