In order to find the best combination of three synthetic rubbers, that is, styrene‐butadiene rubber (SBR) grade 1712, SBR grade 1721 and high‐1,4‐cis polybutadiene, that produce a compound with specific end‐use properties, a statistical experimental design is proposed in this work. The design consists of ten mixtures containing specific amounts of total styrene and BR content. A number of properties are tested in each mixture, selecting those related to requirements for the tread of a high performance tire: glass transition temperature (Tg), the ratio between the viscous modulus and the elastic modulus (tanδ@60 °C), Mooney viscosity, and the tensile properties. The values obtained for each property are fit to statistically significant models, obtaining the respective response surfaces. These are next used to define a desirable formulation with the optimal ratio of each rubber, and finally the optimized formulation is validated by comparing the experimental and predicted values for each modeled property. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In ovarian cancer, therapy resistance mechanisms complicate cancer cell eradication. Targeting Musashi RNA-binding proteins (MSI) may increase therapeutic efficacy. Database analyses were performed to identify gene expression associations between MSI proteins and key therapy resistance and cancer stem cell (CSC) genes. Then, ovarian cancer cells were subjected to siRNA-based dual knockdown of MSI-1 and MSI-2. CSC and cell cycle gene expression was investigated using quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR), western blots, and flow cytometry. Metabolic activity and chemoresistance were assessed by MTT assay. Clonogenic assays were used to quantify cell survival post-irradiation. Database analyses demonstrated positive associations between MSI proteins and putative CSC markers NOTCH, MYC, and ALDH4A1 and negative associations with NOTCH inhibitor NUMB. MSI-2 expression was negatively associated with the apoptosis regulator p21. MSI-1 and MSI-2 were positively correlated, informing subsequent dual knockdown experiments. After MSI silencing, CSC genes were downregulated, while cell cycle progression was reduced. Metabolic activity was decreased in some cancer cells. Both chemo- and radioresistance were reduced after dual knockdown, suggesting therapeutic potential. Dual knockdown of MSI proteins is a promising venue to impede tumor growth and sensitize ovarian cancer cells to irradiation and chemotherapy. 相似文献

the original properties of the raw materials. The compressive mechanical strength and Young modulus of the composite with
17.5% of POVIAC?, has better mechanical properties than those of cancellous bone. The variation of POVIAC? content can affect the cephalexin release kinetic in the composite. The cephalexin release mechanism from the composites
can be considered as the result of the joint contribution of a prevailing Fickian diffusion and of polymer chain relaxation.

A cross-section-averaged advection-dispersion equation (ADE) model was developed to simulate the transport of fertilizer in furrow irrigation. The advection and dispersion processes were solved separately at each time step by implementing a method of characteristics with cubic-spline interpolation and a time-weighted finite-difference scheme, respectively. The upstream boundary condition was a prescribed concentration. Downstream, a zero-flux boundary condition during advance and a concentration gradient following completion of advance were prescribed. Local pseudosteady state was assumed in order to apply Fischer’s longitudinal dispersion equation under nonuniform and unsteady furrow flow conditions. Numerical simulations are carried out to study the performance of two schemes of power output control applicable to solar chimney power plants. Either the volume flow or the turbine pressure drop is used as independent control variable. Values found in the literature for the optimum ratio of turbine pressure drop to pressure potential vary between 2/3 and 0.97. It is shown that the optimum ratio is not constant during the whole day and it is dependent of the heat transfer coefficients applied to the collector. This study is a contribution towards understanding solar chimney power plant performance and control and may be useful in the design of solar chimney turbines. 相似文献

The potential use of vegetable oil-derived industrial oils continues to be of great interest because vegetable oils are relatively non-toxic, biodegradable, and they are a renewable basestock alternative to petroleum oil. However, the fatty ester components containing conjugated double bonds of the triglyceride structure of vegetable oils typically produce considerably poorer thermal-oxidative stability than that achievable with petroleum basestocks under typical use conditions. Typically, these conditions involve furnace loads of hot steel (850 °C), which are rapidly immersed and cooled to bath temperatures of approximately 50-60 °C. This is especially true when a vegetable oil is held in an open tank with agitation and exposed to air at elevated temperatures for extended periods of time (months or years). This paper will describe the thermal-oxidative stability and quenching performance of soybean oil and palm oil and the resulting impact on the heat transfer coefficient. These results are compared to typical fully formulated, commercially available accelerated (fast) and an unaccelerated (slow) petroleum oil-based quenchants. 相似文献

This study developed a new type of all-solid-state ion-selective electrode based on a transducing layer of a network of single-walled carbon nanotubes. The extraordinary capacity of carbon nanotubes to promote electron transfer between heterogeneous phases made the presence of electroactive polymers or any other ion-to-electron-transfer promoter unnecessary. The new transducer layer was characterized by environmental scanning electron microscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The stability of the electrical potential of the new solid-contact electrode was examined by performing current-reversal chronopotentiometry, and the influence of the interfacial water film was assessed by the potentiometric water layer test. The performance of the new electrode was evaluated by determining K+ with an ion-selective membrane that contained the well-known valinomycin ion carrier. The new electrode had a Nernstian slope (58.4 mV/decade), dynamic ranges of four logarithmic units, and selectivities and limits of detection comparable to other solid-contact electrodes. The short response time (less than 10 s for activities higher than 10(-5.5) M) and the stability of the signal over several days makes these new electrodes very promising candidates for attaining true miniaturization. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: The effect of zeranol implantation strategy on intramuscular fat, fatty acid profile and cholesterol content of the longissimus dorsi muscle of hair lambs was studied. Four treatments were tested: C, control group; Z12, 12 mg zeranol; Z24, 24 mg zeranol in a single application; and RZ12, 12 mg zeranol given twice. One‐way analysis of variance was employed to estimate the effect of treatments (P < 0.05). To separate the effect of the mean, orthogonal contrasts were tested: C1, C versus Z12 + Z24 + RZ12; C2, Z12 versus Z24 + RZ12; and C3, Z24 versus RZ12. RESULTS: A decrease (P < 0.05) in intramuscular fat content was observed from implanting (C1 effect) and zeranol reimplantation (C3 effect). Implanted lambs exhibited an increase (P < 0.05) in monounsaturated fatty acids compared with control group (40.60% versus 35.35%). All contrasts were significant for the sum of n‐6 and n‐3, with values lower (P < 0.05) in the control (n‐6: 0.84% and n‐3: 1.38%) and higher in the RZ12 treatment (n‐6: 7.55% and n‐3: 14.9%). Cholesterol decreased by 78% with implantation and increasing the dose. CONCLUSION: The results indicate that it is possible to induce favorable changes in the fatty acid profile and cholesterol content using a zeranol implantation strategy on hair lambs.
