We report a case of early Wegener's disease mimicking tuberculosis in a 36 year old man. Lungs are solely affected for 6 months. Unusual appearance of radiographic features with large apical excavations explain the delai for the diagnosis. We discuss morphological features in the lungs and kidney.  相似文献

The induction process of the galactose regulon has been intensively studied, but until now the nature of the inducer has remained unknown. We have analyzed a delta gal7 mutant of the yeast Kluyveromyces lactis, which lacks the galactotransferase activity and is able to express the genes of the Gal/Lac regulon also in the absence of galactose. We found that this expression is semiconstitutive and undergoes a strong induction during the stationary phase. The gal1-209 mutant, which has a reduced kinase activity but retains its positive regulatory function, also shows a constitutive expression of beta-galactosidase, suggesting that galactose is the inducer. A gal10 deletion in delta gal7 or gal1-209 mutants reduces the expression to under wild-type levels. The presence of the inducer could be demonstrated in both delta gal7 crude extracts and culture medium by means of a bioassay using the induction in gal1-209 cells. A mutation in the transporter gene LAC12 decreases the level of induction in gal7 cells, indicating that galactose is partly released into the medium and then retransported into the cells. Nuclear magnetic resonance analysis of crude extracts from delta gal7 cells revealed the presence of 50 microM galactose. We conclude that galactose is the inducer of the Gal/Lac regulon and is produced via UDP-galactose through a yet-unknown pathway.  相似文献

Thin SiO2 and SiOxNy layers were grown on silicon using Rapid Thermal Processing (RTP) in either O2 or N2O ambient. Subsequent annealing or nitridation was performed in order to improve the electrical stability. The composition of the films, in particular the incorporation of nitrogen and hydrogen, has been studied. We obtained the distribution of states at the Si/insulator interface through the evaluation of CV measurements and investigated the charge trapping in the layers analysing the voltage–time behaviour during Fowler–Nordheim constant current injection. Furthermore, assuming a trap assisted tunneling mechanism, the influence of near interface trap states on the current voltage characteristic was used to derive an effective insulator state distribution.  相似文献

We describe the design and implementation of an asynchronous discrete cosine transform/inverse discrete cosine transform (DCT/IDCT) processor core compliant with the CCITT recommendation H.261. First, a micropipelined implementation with level-sensitive latches is shown. This is improved by replacing the level-sensitive latches with dual-edge triggered flip-flops to save power and using completion-detection adders in the critical stage of the pipeline to exploit the data-dependent processing delay. Gate-level simulation of extracted layouts indicates that the performance of asynchronous implementations is comparable with that of a synchronous implementation based on an identical architecture. This is because part of the penalty introduced by handshaking circuitry in an asynchronous pipeline can be recovered by exploiting data-dependent processing delays with completion-detection circuitry. In pipelines with significant arithmetic processing such as the DCT/IDCT processor, this is easily accomplished. Our results are encouraging because asynchronous designs do not employ global clocking. In the near future when clock generation, clock distribution, and the power consumed in the clock circuitry become limiting factors in the design of large synchronous application specific integrated circuits (ASICs), asynchronous implementation methodology could be pursued as a real alternative  相似文献

BACKGROUND: To describe abortion utilization in the Canton of Vaud (Switzerland) and to identify desirable changes in the data collection system to improve the epidemiologic monitoring METHODS: Retrospective survey of the 5600 abortion requests to the Canton Health Authority for resident women between 1990 and 1993. RESULTS: Nine women out of 1000 residents requested an abortion, but the abortion rate was higher among women of foreign origin compared to Swiss women (17/1000 vs. 6/1000, p < 0.0001). The proportion of terminated recognized conceptions was 127/1000, and the ratio of IVG to livebirths was 0.18. The abortion rate was lower during adolescence (6/1000) or after 40 years of age (1.8/1000), whereas the proportion of terminated conceptions was highest at these ages (527/1000 and 312/1000). Abortion utilization in Canton of Vaud is among the lowest. CONCLUSIONS: Although these indicators do reflect a satisfactory accessibility and use of family planning services, improvements could be made. A better knowledge of the causes (motives, contraceptive method, reproductive history) and of the consequences of abortion (psycho-social implications, medical complications) would allow to design more focused prevention strategies and to fit health services to current needs. Updating the 1942 Swiss legislation is also desirable.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: The object of the present study was to identify metabolic differences between low-grade astrocytomas and oligodendrogliomas and to improve their diagnosis and noninvasive assessment, because both types of tumors look very similar from the point of view of clinical and radiological data (as assessed by computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging). METHODS: Before any aggressive treatment, 22 patients with primary low-grade gliomas (astrocytomas in 12 patients and oligodendrogliomas in 10) were investigated with positron emission tomography for both glucose metabolism (18F-fluorodeoxyglucose) and amino acid uptake (11C-L-methylmethionine). An original software that allows a full metabolic analysis of the tumor region of interest (defined from the T1-weighted magnetic resonance image) and compares tumor tissue uptake tracer concentrations with average healthy tissue values has been implemented for data processing. Heterogeneity of each individual tumor has been taken into account and was expressed in histograms, which provided data about the mean and also extreme and intermediate values of tracer concentrations and the way these values are distributed among the full tumor mass. RESULTS: It has been shown that both tumor types exhibit a glucose hypometabolism (slightly more pronounced with astrocytomas), whereas they strongly differ in methionine uptake, which is high in all oligodendrogliomas and either decreased, normal, or moderately increased in astrocytomas. This latter metabolic difference between both tumor populations may be partially explained by their different cell densities. CONCLUSION: This study suggests that despite similar radiological and clinical presentations, these two kinds of low-grade gliomas are metabolically different and could therefore have specific responses to different therapies. Moreover, their in vivo metabolic follow-up with positron emission tomography should rely on different parameters, depending on their histological type; methionine uptake may be more relevant than glucose metabolism in the follow-up of oligodendrogliomas.  相似文献

The influence of nanosecond pulsed laser irradiation on the morphology and low-temperature photoluminescence of n-type CdTe at energy densities sufficient to melt the material (0.2–0.5 J/cm2) is investigated. After recrystallization the material has an “orange-peel” appearance. The low-temperature photoluminescence spectrum corresponds to low-grade single-crystalline p-type CdTe containing a large number of dislocations and clusters of point defects. The laser treatment has a long-range effect, significantly altering the impurity-defect system in a way characteristic of np conductivity conversion at distances greater than 50 μm from the site where laser radiation is absorbed. Smoking is associated with insulin resistance, dyslipidaemia and markers of the insulin resistance syndrome. This study investigated adipose tissue lipolysis in situ by subcutaneous microdialysis twice in 10 healthy, male smokers after smoking four cigarettes over 2 h and after the administration of an equal amount of nicotine given as nasal spray (NNS). Glucose and insulin levels, in situ lipolysis and adipose tissue blood flow were studied in the post-absorptive state and after a 75-g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). Post-absorptively, acute smoking and NNS increased neither subcutaneous adipose tissue glycerol production nor plasma free fatty acid (FFA) or glycerol levels. After the OGTT, plasma insulin and lactate levels were significantly higher after smoking, whereas FFA levels were higher after NNS. Normal smoking or the administration of a normal dose of NNS caused only minor metabolic changes. Thus, it does not seem likely that increased lipolysis is an important contributor to the dyslipidaemia seen in smokers.  相似文献

Pilot studies in human populations have demonstrated a correlation between the level of antigen receptor trans-rearrangements and risk (at the population level) of lymphoid malignancy. Irradiation of newborn severe combined immune deficiency mice results in an increased risk of subsequent development of thymic lymphoma (100% of mice so irradiated are dead of thymic lymphoma by 20 weeks of age). We, therefore, assayed the occurrence of trans-rearrangements in this well-controlled mouse mutant system and found a 50-100-fold increase in the absolute number of TCRGV-TCRBJ trans-rearrangements compared to unirradiated littermates (and a comparable fold increase over age-matched BALB/c mice) at 2 weeks following irradiation. We also found a marked disproportion in generating trans-rearrangements versus intralocus rearrangements in the severe combined immune deficiency system compared to BALB/c, independent of irradiation. The trans-rearrangements noted were polyclonal in nature. These data, again, suggest that the absolute level of antigen receptor trans-rearrangements may serve as a biomarker of lymphoma risk.  相似文献
