A 533-MHz BiCMOS superscalar RISC microprocessor

This 533-MHz BiCMOS very large scale integration (VLSI) implementation of the PowerPC architecture contains three pipelines and a large on-chip secondary cache to achieve a peak performance of 1600 MIPS. The 15 mm×10 mm die contains 2.7 M transistors (2M CMOS and 0.7 M bipolar) and dissipates less than 85 W. The die is fabricated in a six-level metal, 0.5-μm BiCMOS process and requires 3.6 and 2.1 V power supplies     

球墨铸铁材料对激光的吸收率

球墨铸铁因其优良性能而被广泛用作模具材料。对球墨铸铁冲压模具的激光表面处理已成为改善其耐磨性、提高使用寿命的重要方法。一定激光参量下吸收率的大小又直接影响到表面处理的质量。因此,确定球墨铸铁材料对激光的吸收率十分必要。通过热电偶测温,计算机数据采集系统进行定点温度采集,并结合数值模拟方法,对吸收率进行了标定,即首先根据预置的吸收率计算,预测被测点处的温度响应,并与实测响应比较,不断修正吸收率值,使预测温度响应和实验值吻合,由此获得吸收率。采用这种方法获得了球墨铸铁材料在大气条件下对激光的吸收率为23.3%。为激光处理球墨铸铁材料时工艺参量的选择和优化提供了一定参考。     

Active state estimation for nonlinear systems: a neural approximation approach.

In this paper, we consider the problem of actively providing an estimate of the state of a stochastic dynamic system over a (possibly long) finite time horizon. The active estimation problem (AEP) is formulated as a stochastic optimal control one, in which the minimization of a suitable uncertainty measure is carried out. Toward this end, the use of the Renyi entropy as an information measure is proposed and motivated. A neural control scheme, based on the application of the extended Ritz method (ERIM) and on the use of a Gaussian sum filter (GSF), is then presented. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Interpersonal underpinnings of request strategies: General principles and differences due to culture and gender.

Several hypotheses derived from P. Brown and S. Levinson's (1987) politeness theory were tested with Ss from the US and Korea. Ss imagined themselves in situations in which they were to make a request. Ss then indicated exactly what they would say in each situation and what their perceptions of the request size, the hearer's power, and the closeness of their relationship with the hearer were. Consistent with Brown and Levinson's theory, power, distance, and size contributed significantly to politeness. Significant predictor variable interactions suggested that an additive model is not appropriate. Finally, there was evidence of cultural and gender differences in the weighting of these predictor variables. The residential therapeutic caring community.

The residential therapeutic caring community (RTCC) for adolescents combines psychotherapeutic principles of the professional model and self-help concept of the therapeutic community by using the collective resources of members to mobilize peer pressure. The RTCC is a safe, structured, supportive treatment environment that employs a confrontation, teaching, interpretative, and reasoning approach and uses the psychotherapeutic principles of reality therapy and existential thought. In the RTCC, the staff serve as mentors and role models, and they demonstrate their concern by maintaining high expectations for immediate improved behavior. When is less treatment better? The role of social anxiety in matching methadone patients to psychosocial treatments.

In response to a need to match drug users to the most appropriate and cost-effective level of care, it was hypothesized that socially anxious methadone-maintained patients would attain greater benefit from coping skills training provided in the context of a low-intensity enhanced standard methadone maintenance intervention (E-STD) than in the context of a high-intensity, socially demanding day treatment program (DTP). Social anxiety was assessed in 307 methadone-maintained patients using the Social Anxiety and Distress Scale prior to randomization to either E-STD or DTP. The hypothesis was supported: Socially anxious patients were drug free longer during treatment, were more likely to be abstinent at treatment completion, and had greater reductions in HIV risk behaviors if assigned to the lower intensity intervention, which was provided at ? the cost of the DTP.
