A method of determining the distribution of branching in a polymer is developed employing limiting viscosity numbers (intrinsic viscosity), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and absolute molecular weight determinations of fractions of the whole polymer. A molecular weight calibration of the GPC column set is first determined empolying these fractions. From the limiting viscosity number measurements of these fractions and their molecular weight distribution determined from the GPC chromatogram, the viscosity–molecular weight relationship is determined by a nonlinear least-squares fitting procedure. For the same molecular weight, the limiting viscosity number of the branched polymer is less than the limiting viscosity number of the linear polymer. From the ratio of the two, the number of branches per unit molecular weight of the branched polymer is calculated. The method was applied to SRM 1476, the standard reference branched polyethylene issued by the National Bureau of Standards. The branching density for the constituents of SRM 1476 rise from zero at molecular weights less than 10,000 to about 6 to 8×10?5 at molecular weights of 50,000 and above. The branching of SRM 1476 was also determined by the method of Drott and Mendelson, giving a result in fair agreement with the above method. 相似文献

Traditionally, the quality of orthogonal planar drawings is quantified by either the total number of bends, or the maximum number of bends per edge. However, this neglects that in typical applications, edges have varying importance. In this work, we investigate an approach that allows to specify the maximum number of bends for each edge individually, depending on its importance. We consider a new problem called FlexDraw that is defined as follows. Given a planar graph G=(V,E) on n vertices with maximum degree 4 and a function $\operatorname{flex}: E \longrightarrow\mathbb{N}_{0}$ that assigns a flexibility to each edge, does G admit a planar embedding on the grid such that each edge e has at most $\operatorname{flex}(e)$ bends? Note that in our setting the combinatorial embedding of G is not fixed. FlexDraw directly extends the problem β-embeddability asking whether G can be embedded with at most β bends per edge. We give an algorithm with running-time O(n 2) solving FlexDraw when the flexibility of each edge is positive. This includes 1-embeddability as a special case and thus closes the complexity gap between 0-embeddability, which is $\mathcal{NP}$ -hard to decide, and 2-embeddability, which is efficiently solvable since every planar graph with maximum degree 4 admits a 2-embedding except for the octahedron. In addition to the polynomial-time algorithm we show that FlexDraw is $\mathcal{NP}$ -hard even if the edges with flexibility 0 induce a tree or a union of disjoint stars. 相似文献

The methods of small angle synchrotron radiation scattering, vibration spectroscopy, and second harmonic generation are applied
to glasses of the K2O-TiO2-P2O5 system near the stoichiometry of potassium titanyl-phosphate to demonstrate that at the initial stage of phase separation,
while glass remains x-ray amorphous and clear, it can possess quadratic optical nonlinearity. The emergence of nonlinearity
is facilitated by the formation of nanoheterogeneities in glass whose structure resembles the structural pattern of a nonlinear-optical
crystal. Acorrelation established between the structural specifics of x-ray amorphous glass and its quadratic optical nonlinearly
suggests the advisability of describing the short-range and medium-range orders of glasses at the glass-formation boundary

Due to the high temporal sampling rate of ASAR Global Monitoring (GM) mode, it has a high application potential for analyzing the land surface freeze/thaw process in high latitudes. This study aims to develop effective methods of extracting freeze/thaw transition dates of permafrost areas from ASAR GM data sets. In order to use ASAR GM time-series for analyzing freeze/thaw states, a least square fitting of piecewise step function is introduced. The thawing date can be determined by minimizing the sum of squared residuals between measured backscattering time-series and a pre-defined step function. In this article we propose a data treatment strategy to generate new discriminative features, called compound-features (or c-features), for the sake of text classification. These c-features are composed by terms that co-occur in documents without any restrictions on order or distance between terms within a document. This strategy precedes the classification task, in order to enhance documents with discriminative c-features. The idea is that, when c-features are used in conjunction with single-features, the ambiguity and noise inherent to their bag-of-words representation are reduced. We use c-features composed of two terms in order to make their usage computationally feasible while improving the classifier effectiveness. We test this approach with several classification algorithms and single-label multi-class text collections. Experimental results demonstrated gains in almost all evaluated scenarios, from the simplest algorithms such as kNN (13% gain in micro-average F1 in the 20 Newsgroups collection) to the most complex one, the state-of-the-art SVM (10% gain in macro-average F1 in the collection OHSUMED). 相似文献

Eutectic aluminum–germanium wafer bonding was used to fabricate (AlGaIn)N thin-film light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Wafer bonding was carried out on 2″ wafer level at a bond temperature of 470 °C using patterned Al bond pads on the GaN-on-sapphire LED epiwafer and plain Ge substrates. The microstructure of the joint formation was characterized via cross-section analysis using scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). Scanning acoustic microscopy was used to investigate the bond interface. The shear strength was determined to be 1–2 kN/cm2. The formation of a liquid Al–Ge phase is evident from cross-section analysis and optical microscopy. During solidification, Al and Ge are separated into distinct phases again, which is revealed by EDX. The obtained bond is not free of micro-voids, yet it is mechanically stable and suited for the fabrication of thin-film LEDs by removing the sapphire substrate via laser lift-off, which is also demonstrated. 相似文献

Cryofixation refers to the immobilization of tissue components by the rapid removal of heat from the specimen, so that the structure is interred and stabilized in a natural embedding medium, namely, frozen (amorphous or microcrystalline) tissue water. Cryofixation is now often used as a complement to the more traditional fixation methods, especially when the cell structure is delicate or dynamic and may be inaccurately preserved by the slow selective action of chemical fixatives. Vascular endothelial cells are specialized for transcellular transport and for the regulation of blood flow and composition. The dynamic and labile subcellular organization of these cells, presumably reflecting these functional specializations, makes them ideal candidates for cryofixation. Several different types of endothelial cells were directly frozen at temperatures below 20 degrees Kelvin by pressing them against a liquid-helium-cooled block. These samples were subsequently processed for structural analysis by freeze-substitution. Detailed rationales, designs, and protocols are described for both freezing and freeze-substitution. Electron micrographs of cryofixed arterial and venous capillaries (rete mirabile of the American eel), iliac vein (rabbit), and cultured endothelium from the iliac vein (human) reveal that the organization of the characteristic intracellular membrane system of endothelial vesicles is qualitatively similar to that seen in chemically fixed endothelium, especially with regard to the interconnection of clusters of individual vesicles to form elaborate networks. The luminal and abluminal networks are not in communication, at least not in static images. Quantitatively, however, most directly frozen endothelial cells have far fewer vesicular profiles than comparable glutaraldehydefixed cells. The differences can be explained by presuming that the rapid action of cryofixation (approximately 1 msec) gives a more accurate picture of the vesicular network because it captures the transient structure of labile or dynamic membranes. 相似文献
