Percutaneous ethanol injection therapy (PEIT) is widely used as a local treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, because only a small amount of ethanol can be used in one PEIT session and because the antitumor effect is limited, this modality is indicated only when there are three or fewer tumors and when the tumor diameter is < or = 3 cm. To obtain a more potent and certain antitumor effect, we have devised a new treatment called percutaneous hot ethanol injection therapy (PHEIT), and developed a Continuous Heating Device with which ethanol can be heated and locally injected at a specified temperature. The continuous Heating Device is composed of three major components: a syringe heater, a needle thermocontroller, and a needle tip thermosensor. A disposable syringe filled with liquid is inserted into the syringe heater, which heats the liquid to a desired temperature by adjusting the voltage. The needle thermocontroller is a puncture guide needle to which a heating device has been attached. The needle-tip thermosensor constantly measures, displays and records the temperature of the liquid at the needle tip during injection. Also, because the Continuous Heating Device is a closed-circuit system, there is no risk of accidental a fire, which ensures procedural safety. It is also possible to use this device to safely heat and inject a variety of other liquids, such as physiological saline and anticancer agents and thus contribute to the widespread development of ultrasound-guided injection therapy. 相似文献

Margin assessment of a nuclear power plant against external hazards is one of the most important issues after Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant Accident. In this paper, a new approach has been developed to assess the plant status during external hazards and countermeasures against them in operation quantitatively and stochastically. A continuous Markov chain Monte Carlo (CMMC) method is applied and coupled with a plant dynamics analysis. In the CMMC method, a subsequence plant status is determined by the latest state (Markov chain) and the status is evaluated from the plant dynamics analysis. A failure or success of safety function of plant component is also evaluated stochastically based on a latest state of plant or hazard. A numerical investigation of plant dynamics analysis against a snow hazard is also carried out in a loop type sodium-cooled fast reactor so as to assess the margin against the hazard. 相似文献

The oxygen permeability of polycrystalline mullite wafers, serving as a model environmental barrier coating layer on SiC fiber‐reinforced SiC matrix composites, was evaluated at temperatures above 1673 h with an oxygen tracer gas (18O2). Oxygen permeation occurred by grain‐boundary (GB) diffusion of oxygen from the high oxygen partial pressure (high‐Po 2) surface to the low‐Po 2 surface, with simultaneous GB diffusion of aluminum in the opposite direction. This GB interdiffusion of both oxygen and aluminum proceeded without acceleration or retardation, maintaining the Gibbs‐Duhem relationship. Oxygen permeation related to the GB diffusion of silicon was negligibly small compared to that generated by aluminum GB diffusion, resulting in decomposition of the mullite near the low‐Po 2 surface. The GB diffusion coefficients for oxygen in the vicinity of the high‐Po 2 surface were determined directly from the SIMS‐18O line profiles along individual GBs, as assessed from cross sections of the exposed wafer. The coefficients thus obtained were comparable to those determined in the absence of an oxygen potential gradient and those calculated from an oxygen permeation trial under the assumption of nearly ionic conductivity. 相似文献

Although the color measurement of facial skin becomes more common in dermatology and cosmetics, little is known about the relationship between subjective color perception and colorimetric values in facial skin. In this study, the possible relationships among perceived whiteness and the metric lightness, chroma and hue angle of Japanese females' facial skin color were investigated. First, the perceived brightness of the facial skin of Japanese females was evaluated visually and compared with metric lightness, chroma and hue angle, and the effect of hue and chroma on the perceived brightness was discussed. Second, a psychophysical experiment on the whiteness of the facial images and synthesized skin color plate images was conducted for examining the effect of hue and chroma on the perceived whiteness more precisely and independently. The results of two experiments showed that in regard to the facial skin color of the Japanese female, metric lightness disagrees with perceived whiteness or brightness in a narrow lightness range. The reddish facial skin color appeared brighter or whiter than that of a yellowish one in high lightness regions, and the low‐chroma facial skin color appeared brighter or whiter than a high‐chroma one. However, in the color plate images, a change in perceived whiteness by hue could not be confirmed, and the change in perceived whiteness by chroma was weaker than that from facial images. These results indicated that a higher‐level process of face recognition affected whiteness perception, and the criterion of facial skin whiteness was determined by facial skin color distribution. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Although a loss-of-function mutation has been identified in familial Parkinson’s disease PARK7, the wild-type of DJ-1 is known to act as an oxidative stress sensor in neuronal cells. Recently, we identified UCP0045037 as a compound that bound to the reduced form of DJ-1 by in silico virtual screening. In this study, we determined the neuroprotective effects of UCP0045037 against focal cerebral ischemia-induced neurodegeneration in rats. Hydrogen peroxide-induced cell death was significantly inhibited by UCP0045037 in both rat mesencephalic dopaminergic neurons and human normal SH-SY5Y cells. In contrast, DJ-1-knockdown SH-SY5Y cells lost the protective activity of UCP0045037. These results suggest that UCP0045037 interacts with endogenous DJ-1 and produces a neuroprotective response. 相似文献

The structure formation and crystallization kinetics in crystallization from a disordered melt were investigated for a polyethylene-polyisoprene block copolymer (LEI) having Mn = 3.2 × 104 and 53 wt% of polyethylene content and for its blends with the corresponding homopolymers, polyethylene (PE) and polyisoprene (PIp), using synchrotron small-angle X-ray scattering techniques (SAXS) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). For LEI copolymer and the blends, no microphase separation structure was observed in the molten state. In the crystalline state of the neat LEI, the first and higher order scattering peaks were clearly observed, in which the intensity of the higher order peaks was considerably strong. This unusual behavior of the higher order peaks was explained by the lamellar insertion model of Hama and Tashiro. From the analyses based on this model and one-dimensional electron density correlation function with a three phase model, the phase structure in the crystalline state of the neat LEI was concluded to be a regular lamellar structure consisting of crystalline lamella of PE block and amorphous layers of PE and PIp blocks. This phase structure was quite different from that reported previously for a polyethylene-polyisoprene block copolymer (HEI) with a higher molecular weight in which HEI crystallized with keeping the microphase separation structure in the melt. For the blends of LEI with PIp homopolymer, the phase structure is affected by the blend composition, while for the blends with PE homopolymer, the phase structure depended on the crystallization temperature as well as the molecular weight and composition of the added PE. We report a case of testicular tumor detected by ultrasonography during the prenatal period. Ultrasonography performed at 32 weeks of gestation showed that one testis was larger than the other. The right testis was markedly enlarged at 38 weeks of gestation. The heterogeneous echo pattern of the right testis suggested a testicular tumor. Right high orchiectomy was performed 3 months after birth. Pathological findings of the tumor were teratoma with mature and immature components according to the histological classification of testicular tumor. In Japan, this is the second case diagnosed in the prenatal period using ultrasonography. 相似文献

Hybrid molecules were constructed with either polyclonal antibodies against Trypanosoma cruzi antigens or monoclonal antibody against Trypanosoma brucei brucei low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-receptor conjugated with chlorambucil. Physical-chemical analysis of the hybrid molecule showed four chlorambucil coupling sites in each IgG and a binding constant in the order of 10(4). Maintenance of IgG integrity was indicated by its circular dichroism pattern. Biologic activity of the hybrid molecule was shown by its inhibitory effect on the mobility and proliferation of the parasite. An IgG-chlorambucil conjugate, produced with monoclonal antibody anti-T. b. brucei LDL-receptor, led to the immobilization of the T. cruzi forms, albeit at a much lesser level than that obtained with a mouse polyclonal anti-T. cruzi IgG linked to the drug. Targeting experimental T. cruzi infection with a specific IgG-chlorambucil conjugate resulted in consistent reduction of parasitemia and mortality, thus showing its potential usefulness in controlling the acute form of the disease. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Microalbuminuria is an early marker of prognostic significance in diabetic renal disease. However, testing for microalbuminuria in a timed sample of urine using the double antibody radioimmunoassay (RIA) method is cumbersome and requires special laboratory facilities. Recently, a test strip for microalbuminuria, the Micral Test was available and we evaluated the performance of this test strip as a screening method for detection of microalbuminuria. METHODS: One hundred consecutive diabetic patients who were tested to be dipstick-negative (Albustix) for proteinuria were enrolled for the study. Micral Tests were performed on a paired first morning and random urine specimen from the same patient and the results compared with a timed 24-hour urine measurement of urine albumin excretion using the RIA method. RESULTS: Eighteen specimens were tested positive by the RIA method with a urinary albumin range of 32-177 mg/24 hours. With the Micral Test, the following sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values were obtained: 66.7%. 97.6%, 85.7% and 93.0% for the first morning urine specimens, and 77.8%, 91.5%, 66.7% and 94.9% for the random urine specimens. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that Micral Test with either the first morning or random urine specimen offers a simple, reliable, rapid and convenient method for screening of microalbuminuria in the diabetic patient. 相似文献

This paper discusses about the effect of adsorption and diffusion of water and isotope exchange reaction between physically adsorbed water and chemically adsorbed water or structural water.
