The effects of gas flow rate on particle formation and film deposition during the preparation of silica thin film using a TEOS/O2 plasma were investigated. Particle formation and growth are suppressed with increasing gas flow rates. The film deposition rate increases with increasing gas flow rate, reaches a maximum value, and eventually decreases again. However, the uniformity of the film tends to degrade at high gas flow rates. At a high gas flow rate, some particles trapped in the sheath near the grounded electrode pass through the sheath to reach the substrate and are then embedded in the growing film. A self-consistent sheath model combined with particle force balance based on charge fluctuation was developed to explain these experimental findings qualitatively. The model reveals that charge fluctuation is a key factor for the particle to overcome the potential barrier of the negatively charged particles to pass through the sheath, eventually reaching the substrate. The model further shows that the probability of a particle being deposited on the substrate is higher for increased gas flow rates, which correctly predicts the experimentally observed trend.  相似文献

Several modifications of the particle size magnifier (PSM) developed by Okuyama et al. have been introduced recently for detection of particles at diameters of 1 nm and below. However, their evaluation has been incomplete. Here we provide the first direct measurements of counting efficiencies near unity below 2 nm. We use the modified PSM described by Sgro and Fernández de la Mora, which separates thermally the PSM's original vapor generator from the water-cooled growth chamber by means of a narrow and short T where turbulent mixing with the aerosol takes place. The counting efficiency is seen to depend greatly on the aerosol flow, the amount of vapor, and temperature. With ethylene glycol vapor, under optimal conditions, the counting efficiency is 100% down to 1.6 nm (actual diameter of 1.2 nm), and negative particles are more easily activated than positive particles. The improved PSM is applied to the measurement of gold nanoparticle size distributions, and the results show it is a powerful aerosol detector for nanoparticles.  相似文献

A unipolar charging device based on a soft X-ray (<9.5 keV) photoionization was developed to investigate the charging efficiency of aerosol nanoparticles. Unipolar charging using a 241 Am charger was also evaluated as a comparison with the characteristics obtained by X-ray charging. The production rate and the concentration of ions generated by the X-ray and 241 Am unipolar chargers were estimated from ion current measurements. Theoretical calculations by the unipolar diffusion charging theory were also carried out and the calculated data were compared with the experimental results. For acquiring a high number of standard nanoparticles, the classification of monodisperse nanoparticles from polydisperse aerosol particles using the X-ray unipolar charger and a differential mobility analyzer (DMA) was also evaluated. The ion production rate of the X-ray unipolar charger was at least 5.5 times higher than that of the 241 Am unipolar charger and the ion concentration was about three times higher. Therefore, the X-ray unipolar charger showed a higher capability for charging aerosol particles of 10-40 nm size in diameter than the 241 Am charger. The charging state of particles produced by the X-ray unipolar charger was in good agreement with theoretical calculations. The X-ray unipolar charger developed herein has potential for use in charging a high number concentration of nanoparticles for use in nanotechnology investigations.  相似文献

Platinum‐deposited titanium nitride (Pt/TiN) nanoparticle aggregates with high porosities were successfully prepared via a self‐assembly‐assisted spray pyrolysis method. The addition of formic acid (HCOOH) had a significant influence on the process, promoting the simultaneous formation of metallic Pt and reduction on the surface of the TiN support material. Complete reduction of the Pt/TiN nanoparticle aggregates improved the catalytic activity. The electrochemical surface area (ECSA) of Pt/TiN with HCOOH (Pt/TiNw/HCOOH) was 87.15 m2/g‐Pt, which was higher than that of Pt/TiN without HCOOH (Pt/TiNw/o‐HCOOH). The catalytic durability of Pt/TiNw/HCOOH was twice that of Pt/TiNw/o‐HCOOH. An optimum nanostructure and pore size of catalyst supports is very important in achieving high catalytic performances. In this instance, we evaluated the effects of various carbon nanostructures on the catalytic performances of carbon‐supported platinum (Pt/C) electrocatalysts experimentally and numerically. The Pt/C catalysts were prepared using a hybrid method involving the preparation of dense, hollow, and porous nanostructured carbon particle via aerosol spray pyrolysis followed by microwave‐assisted Pt deposition. Electrochemical characterization of the catalysts showed that the porous Pt/C catalyst gave the best performance; its electrochemical surface area was much higher, more than twice than those of hollow or dense Pt/C. The effects of pore size on electrocatalysis were also studied. The results showed the importance of a balance between mesopores and macropores for effective catalysis with a high charge transfer rate. BACKGROUND: The behavior of cadmium in ecosystems needs to be monitored because of the human toxicity of this heavy metal. The need recently arose for a simple and quick on‐site test for trace levels of Cd in food and environmental samples. In response, an immunochromatographic assay kit for detecting Cd was manufactured by Kansai Electric Power Co. of Japan. This kit uses the antigen–antibody complex reaction between the Cd–EDTA complex and an anti‐Cd–EDTA antibody and shows the results in terms of the degree of color developed on a test paper. We previously reported the successful use of this kit to determine Cd concentrations in brown rice. Here, we applied the kit to the determination of Cd concentrations in rice foliage and soil. RESULTS: Cadmium in rice foliage was not extracted successfully by the method used for brown rice. However, it was successfully extracted by 0.1 mol L?1 HCl solution at a rice foliage:HCl ratio of 1:20, and coexisting metals were removed sufficiently by the column treatment. The Cd concentrations determined by immunochromatographic assay were well correlated with the values obtained by acid decomposition and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The 0.1 mol L?1 HCl‐extractable Cd concentration in soil was also determined successfully with the kit. CONCLUSION: Approximate Cd concentrations in rice plants and 0.1 mol L?1 HCl‐extractable Cd concentrations in soil can be monitored easily and quickly by this method at locations where facilities for acid digestion and precision analysis are not available. Previously, we noted significant differences in the behavioral patterns of mice fed safflower oil with a very low alpha-linolenate/linoleate ratio and perilla oil with a high alpha-linolenate/linoleate ratio from mothers to offsprings. In this report, we compared the behavior and drug responses in mice fed diets containing six different vegetable oils-corn, rapeseed, soybean, safflower, perilla and a mixture of perilla and safflower oils- for a relatively short period: 8 months after weaning. Soybean oil is a component of most conventional diets and was used as a control. The alpha-linolenate/linoleate ratios of the oils appeared to affect the locomotor activities in a wheel cage: the activity decreased in the order of safflower, the mixture (1:1) and the perilla oil groups. However, the rapeseed oil group exhibited much higher locomotor activity than that expected from the alpha-linolenate/linoleate ratio. Additionally, the rapeseed oil group exhibited unusual behavior patterns, including higher ambulation and rearing activities, faster acquisition of the water maze task and slower habituation behavior as compared with the control group. Susceptibility to pentobarbital anesthesia tended to be higher in the rapeseed oil group. The differences in the alpha-linolenate/linoleate ratios of these oils alone do not account for the observed differences in the behavioral patterns among the six dietary groups. Although we cannot exclude the possibility that the observed behavioral anomaly is due to the unique fatty acid composition of rapeseed oil, we speculate that a factor(s) other than fatty acids in rapeseed oil affected nervous system functions.  相似文献

The photoionization cross-sections of various deep impurities of interest in solar-grade silicon for photovoltaic cells, and the corresponding energy levels, have been determined by steady state photo-induced currents in pn junctions or Schottky barrier junctions irradiated simultaneously with two wavelengths of light. Light of about half the band-gap energy controls the occupancy of the deep impurity level and the spectral dependence of the photocurrent on a higher photon energy light source then provides, via the Lucovsky model, the photo-cross-section and the impurity energy level. The results obtained for Au and Pt in Si are in agreement with those of Braun and Grimmeiss and the energy levels for Fe, Ti, and Ag obtained optically are in agreement with those obtained by other methods.  相似文献

Capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducers (CMUTs) with a perforated membrane have been fabricated and characterized in air. Two types of CMUT device have been fabricated having perforation ratio (area ratio of holes = AR) of 10% and 20%, and analyzed about electrical and mechanical characteristics. The perforation ratio (AR) of membrane substantially influences on the electrostatic force and mechanical restoring force of the device since it leads to the area variation of electrode and membrane, it subsequently influences on the sensitivity and frequency response of the CMUT device. The electrostatic force and mechanical restoring force were improved by decreasing the AR and increasing the DC bias voltage. The open-circuit sensitivity of a CMUT having AR 10% membrane, 8.45 μV/Pa, is larger than that of AR 20%, 4.07 μV/Pa at DC 15 V. Furthermore, the resonance behaviors were observed in the range of 60-80 kHz, and the resonance frequency could be changed by varying the applied DC voltage and AR.  相似文献

A new fast‐seeking control method for the two‐stage actuator system in an optical disk drive has been developed. Fast seeking is performed by means of velocity control in two modes. The lens velocity in the first mode, which is estimated using a multirate observer, is equal to the pickup unit velocity, and it is controlled in order to prevent the lens from vibrating. The lens velocity in the second mode is equal to the specified target velocity, and it is controlled in order to improve the laser‐spot positioning accuracy. A DVD‐ROM drive is tested to confirm that the control system we propose significantly improves the seeking capabilities. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
