E5324, n-butyl-N'-[2-[3-(5-ethyl-4-phenyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)propoxy]-6- methylphenyl]urea, a novel and potent inhibitor of acyl-CoA:cholesterol acyltransferase (ACAT), was evaluated for its anti-atherosclerotic and lipid-lowering effects in Watanabe heritable hyperlipidemic (WHHL) rabbits. At 3 months of age, 40 male WHHL rabbits were divided into 4 groups. The rabbits were fed a standard rabbit chow (control group), or standard rabbit chow containing E5324 (0.1% or 0.02%) or 1% probucol for 16 weeks. Even the high dose of E5324 did not lower the plasma total cholesterol levels throughout the experiment. Probucol slightly reduced the plasma cholesterol levels, and showed anti-atherosclerotic activity, i.e., reductions of atherosclerotic plaque formation and cholesterol content in the aorta. Although E5324 did not lower plasma cholesterol, atherosclerotic plaque formation in the aortic arch and thoracic aorta was reduced (by about 34% and 41%, respectively, at the high dose; P < 0.05). Cholesterol content in the aortic arch and thoracic aorta was also reduced (by about 59% and 62% at the high dose, respectively) compared with the control. These results suggest that E5324 acts directly on the arterial wall through ACAT inhibition, and prevents the progression of atherosclerosis in WHHL rabbits. 相似文献

A high level of serum KL-6 is a known feature of active pulmonary fibrosis. Some researchers have suggested that KL-6 is produced and secreted by type II pneumocytes. The present study evaluated serum KL-6 levels in patients with summer-type hypersensitivity pneumonitis (summer-type HP) (n = 6, 7 episodes), Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (n = 16), Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia (n = 3), Chlamydia pneumoniae pneumonia (n = 9), and bacterial pneumonia (n = 12). In addition, transbronchial lung biopsy (TBLB) specimens were examined pathologically in order to identify the site of production and secretion of KL-6. In patients with summer-type HP, the serum KL-6 levels exceeded 500 U/ml (2.996 +/- 2.016 U/ml), but was below 500 U/ml (302 +/- 126 U/ml, p < 0.001) in the patients with other infectious pneumonias, with the exception of two. One of these two patients with a high serum KL-6 level had adult respiratory distress syndrome due to Mycoplasma pneumoniae. The other had organizing pneumonia due to Chlamydia pneumoniae. TBLB specimens showed proliferative type II pneumocytes in all summer-type HP cases. We believe that the high serum KL-6 levels were produced by type II pneumocytes, and may provide a useful indicating serum marker for HP. Although serum LDH, serum CRP and PaO2 are known as monitoring markers in summer-type HP, our findings demonstrated no manifest correlations among these markers. However, serum KL-6 levels showed a strong positive correlation with serum LDH levels and an inverse correlation with serum CRP levels. These results suggest that serum KL-6 may be a better marker of the degree of disease activity than serum LDH, CRP, or PaO2 in summer-type HP. 相似文献

A Wells turbine for wave power conversion has hysteretic characteristics in a reciprocating flow. The hysteretic loop is opposite to the well-known dynamic stall of an airfoil. In this paper, the mechanism of the hysteretic behavior was elucidated by an unsteady 3-dimensional Navier-Stokes numerical simulation. It was found that the hysteretic behavior was associated with a streamwise vortical flow appearing near the blade suction surface. The effects of hub-to-tip ratio and tip clearance on the hysteretic characteristics of the Wells turbine have also been discussed in this paper. 相似文献

Production of fullereries using electrodes made of four kinds of pure carbon bearing materials and artificial graphite doped with seven kinds of elements such as B, Y, La, Gd, Ce, Pr and Nd have been examined. The yields of fullerenes were in a range between 12-20% of the soot produced for all pure carbon electrodes, even though the vaporization rate of amorphous carbon electrodes was about ten times higher than that of the natural graphite electrodes. However, for the doped graphite electrodes, the yield of fullerenes was less than 5%. From the above results it is concluded that fullerenes can be effectively produced with the pure carbon electrodes made of any form of carbon bearing materials used in this study and there is little material dependence on the yield of fullerences. Furthermore, the experiments using the artificaial graphite electrodes doped with metal elements suggests that the purity of the carbon electrodes affects the yeld of fullerenes greatly. 相似文献

We investigated the propagation properties of Lamb waves in a GIS tank, using time–frequency analysis to diagnose the insulation performance of GIS. We measured the acoustic signals excited by metallic particles colliding with the tank sheath, and those emitted by partial discharge in the GIS. The wavelet transform was used to decompose the wave data into its time–frequency components. As a result, it was confirmed that Lamb waves with the dispersive property of the velocity are excited and propagate in a spiral path along the tank wall due to the cylindrical structure of the tank. Taking these results into consideration, we propose a new technique for identification of defect locations in GIS based on time–frequency analysis of acoustic signals with the wavelet transform. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A retrospective study of 155 patients with submucosal gastric carcinoma compared the clinicopathologic features with mucosal and muscularis proprial gastric carcinoma. Fifty-seven percent of the patients presented with gastrointestinal symptoms, whereas 36.1% had been detected by mass screening. The incidence of curative resection, lymph node metastasis, and complications were 96.1, 20.6, and 14.8%, respectively. Two patients died of sepsis and pulmonary infarction 30 days post-operatively. Five patients died of recurrent gastric cancer 1-5 years postresection. The overall 5-year survival rate was 90.2%. Recurrence patterns, histologic type, lymph node metastasis, lymphatic and venous infiltration, and growth pattern were similar to those of muscularis proprial carcinoma rather than mucosal carcinoma. Therefore, curative gastrectomy with extended lymphadenectomy (D2) may be feasible for submucosal carcinoma of the stomach. 相似文献

Summary p-Vinylbenzyl-terninated poly(ethylene oxide) macromonomers (M2) were radical-copolymerized with styrene (M1) in benzene, tetrahydrofuran, and methyl isobutyl ketone at 60°C. Relative reactivity of the macromonomer toward polystyryl radical, as estimated by l/r1 was found to decrease with increasing number-average degree of polymerization and also in a solvent which gives a higher [] of both polystyrene and the macromonomer. The effects of carbon content and ausaging on austenite γ ↔ martensite (α′) transformation behavior and reverse-transformed
structure were investigated in Fe-32Ni-12Co-4Al and Fe-(26,28)Ni-12Co-4Al-0.4C (wt pct) alloys. TheM

temperature, the hardness of γ phase, and the tetragonality of α′ increase with increasing ausaging time, and these values
are higher in the carbon-bearing alloys in most cases. The γ → α′ transformation behavior is similar to that of thermoelastic
martensite; that is, the width of α′ plate increases with decreasing temperature in all alloys. The αt’ → γ reverse transformation
temperature is lower in the carbon-bearing alloys, which means that the shape memory effect is improved by the addition of
carbon. The maximum shape recovery of 84 pct is obtained in Fe-28Ni-12Co-4Al-0.4C alloy when the ausaged specimen is deformed
at theM

temperature and heated to 1120 K. There are two types of reverse-transformed austenites in the carbon-bearing alloy. One
type is the reversed y containing many dislocations which were formed when the γ/α′ interface moved reversibly. The plane

The hybrid catalytic combustor concept proposed by the authors has an advantage concerned with catalyst durability, because the catalyst is maintained below 1000°C even for application to 1300°C class gas turbines. A full-scale hybrid catalytic combustor has been designed for a 200 MW (1300°C) class gas turbine. The catalyst bed was 450 mm in diameter and consisted of a Pd/ alumina washcoat on a cordierite monolith. In experiments, the combustor has demonstrated the capability of meeting the NOx emission level of SCR (selected catalytic reduction) during atmospheric pressure testing. To predict the catalyst performance at an elevated pressure, the characteristics of the catalyst were studied using a small scale reactor test, and a material property test using a DTA/TGA-Q.MASS system. The catalyst showed a higher activity in the oxidized state (PdO) than in the metallic state (Pd). This activity difference was governed by the equilibrium of the oxygen release from PdO in bulk. It was considered that oxidation rate of the metallic Pd in bulk was not so high and this caused self-oscillation for the Pd catalyst around the temperature of the oxygen release equilibrium. Even below the temperature of the oxygen release equilibrium, both surface and bulk (lattice) oxygen of the PdO was consumed by the methane oxidation reaction, and resulted in a lack of surface oxygen on the catalyst. This caused a reversible decrease in the catalyst activity during combustion testing, and indicated that the oxygen dissociation step was a rate limiting step in the catalytic combustion. 相似文献
