It is well known that a bubble in contaminated water rises much slower than one in purified water, and the rising velocity in a contaminated system can be less than half that in a purified system. This phenomenon is explained by the so-called Marangoni effect caused by surfactant adsorption on the bubble surface. In other words, while a bubble is rising, there exists a surface concentration distribution of surfactant along the bubble surface because the adsorbed surfactant is swept off from the front part and accumulates in the rear part by advection. Owing to this surfactant accumulation in the rear part, a variation of surface tension appears along the surface and this causes a tangential shear stress on the bubble surface. This shear stress results in the decrease in the rising velocity of the bubble in contaminated liquid. More interestingly, this Marangoni effect influences not only the bubble's rising velocity but also its lateral migration in the presence of mean shear. Together, these influences cause a drastic change of the whole bubbly flow structures. In this paper, we discuss some experimental results related to this drastic change in bubbly flow structure. We show that bubble clustering phenomena are observed in an upward bubbly channel flow under certain conditions of surfactant concentrations. This cluster disappears with an increase in the concentration. We explain this phenomenon by reference to the lift force acting on a bubble in aqueous surfactant solutions. It is shown that the shear-induced lift force acting on a contaminated bubble of 1mm size can be much smaller than that on a clean bubble.  相似文献

Silica fibers, which can potentially be used as filters and media for catalysts immobilization, were successfully spun via electrospinning process with precursor prepared through the sol–gel synthesis. Spinnable sols can be obtained only when the molar ratio of water to TEOS is less than 2 which is consistent with the retrospective results derived for other spinning methods. It was confirmed for the first time that the reaction time can be drastically reduced by introducing humidified air, controlled by KCl saturated aqueous solution, during sol–gel process. The size of obtained silica fibers is about 4.5 μm and has a certain degree of flexibility and mechanical strength. Although the specific surface area of as spun fiber was 7.7 m2/g, which is apparently small comparing to generic silica, treatment by boiling water only for 5 min could increase the specific surface area to be about 500 m2/g.  相似文献

Fine-grained silicon nitride ceramics were investigated mainly for their high-strain-rate plasticity. The preparation and densification of fine silicon nitride powder were reviewed. Commercial sub-micrometer powder was used as raw powder in the “as-received” state and then used after being ground and undergoing classification operation. Chemical vapor deposition and plasma processes were used for fabricating nanopowder because a further reduction in grain size caused by grinding had limitations. More recently, nanopowder has also been obtained by high-energy milling. This process in principle is the same as conventional planetary milling. For densification, primarily hot pressing was performed, although a similar process known as spark plasma sintering (SPS) has also recently been used. One of the advantages of SPS is its high heating rate. The high heating rate is advantageous because it reduces sintering time, achieving densification without grain growth. We prepared silicon nitride nanopowder by high-energy milling and then obtained nanoceramics by densifying the nanopowder by SPS.  相似文献

Treatment of storm-water runoff may be necessary before discharge to surface waters. In urban areas, space constraints limit selection of conventional treatment systems, and alternative systems are needed. This research program involves design and laboratory testing of a small footprint nonproprietary detention basin which consists of pipes and box culvert sections with a specialized inlet and outlet system. This system can be placed below grade near the roadway section as part of the conventional drainage system and does not require additional right-of-way. A mathematical model, based entirely on hydraulic principles, is developed to estimate particle removal efficiency of the rectangular detention basin for the treatment of storm-water runoff by extending ideal horizontal tank theory under the condition in which water level is varied. A physical model was built in 1/5 scale to measure particle removal performance and validates the conceptual model. Experiments were performed for steady inflow conditions with different inflow rates, durations, and suspended sediment concentrations. Measured time series outflow suspended sediment concentrations and particle removal efficiency compare well with calculated results from the conceptual model. The outflow particle-size distribution can also be estimated using the conceptual model.  相似文献

Thirty-seven joints in 36 patients with a fractured carpal scaphoid were evaluated by three-phase bone scintigraphy. They were classified into two groups according to their progress. Some were in good clinical condition and some in a non-union condition. Increased blood flow in the radial arteries and ample perfusion on and around the scaphoid bones on blood flow images suggested a good clinical course. The activity and the effectiveness of remodeling correlated well with the degree of scaphoid uptake on blood pool images taken more than seven days after the injury. Scaphoid uptake was more localized or there was almost none on blood pool images in cases with nearly complete recovery while it was amply visualized on static images. Blood pool images were indispensable for analyzing lesions and evaluating the clinical course. Two typical findings of scaphoid fractures were found on both blood pool and static images. One was diffusely increased scaphoid uptake seen in cases with a good clinical course, and the other was decreased uptake at proximal fragments seen in cases with non-union. It is concluded that three-phase bone scintigraphy provides useful information for evaluating the process of scaphoid fractures which cannot be obtained by means of conventional bone scintigraphy.  相似文献

Estrogen has been shown to decrease plasma platelet-activating factor (PAF) acetylhydrolase activity, but the precise mechanisms are not known. We examined the effect of estradiol on the secretion of PAF acetylhydrolase by HepG2 cells. In our previous study, we demonstrated the production of this enzyme by HepG2 cells, which we used as an experimental model of normal hepatocytes. 17 beta-Estradiol mildly but consistently inhibited the secretion of PAF acetylhydrolase by HepG2 cells in a concentration-dependent manner. Under basal conditions, HepG2 cells secreted 42.3 pmol/mg cell protein/min PAF acetylhydrolase in 24 hours (mean of 8 dishes), and the presence of 10(-7) mol/L 17 beta-estradiol decreased the secretion to 77% +/- 10.3% of control values (mean +/- SD, n = 8, P < .02). 17 beta-Estradiol treatment affected neither the secretion of apolipoprotein (apo) A-I nor cell-associated PAF acetylhydrolase activity. Electrophoretic separation of [35S]methionine-labeled PAF acetylhydrolase revealed a single band whose molecular weight was approximately 43,000 d. We conclude that estrogen decreases the secretion of PAF acetylhydrolase by the liver, and it may explain, at least in part, the effect of estrogen on plasma PAF acetylhydrolase.  相似文献

Epitaxial Pb(Zr0.35Ti0.65)O3 (PZT) thin films with tetragonal symmetry and thicknesses ranging from 45 to 230 nm were grown at 540 °C on SrRuO3-coated (001)SrTiO3 substrates by pulse-injected metalorganic chemical vapor deposition. The effect of the film thickness on the ferroelectric domain structure and the dielectric and ferroelectric properties were systematically investigated. Domain structure analysis of epitaxial PZT films was accomplished with high-resolution X-ray diffraction reciprocal space mapping and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. Fully polar-axis (c-axis)-oriented epitaxial PZT thin films with high ferroelectric polarization values [e.g., remanent polarization (P r) ~ 90 μC/cm2] were observed for film thicknesses below 70 nm. Films thicker than 70 nm had a c/a/c/a polydomain structure and the relative volume fraction of c-domains monotonously decreased to about 72% on increasing the film thickness up to 230 nm , and finally P r diminished to about 64 μC/cm2 for the 230-nm-thick epitaxial film. These polarization values were in good agreement with the estimated values taking into account the volume fraction of the c-axis-oriented domains while assuming a negligible contribution of 90° domain reorientation caused by an externally applied electric field.  相似文献

This study investigated the influence of natural saliva of varying pH on surface biofilm formation of restorative materials and how this influenced fluoride release. Columnar specimens of glass ionomer cement (GIC), resin modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC), compomer, giomer and composite, were prepared, matured for 24 h at 37 °C and 100% humidity, lapped and then placed in natural stimulated saliva with a pH of 3.8 or 7.1. Fluoride release was determined daily using an ion-selective electrode. The surfaces of selected specimens were observed using Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy in conjunction with a fluorescent dye. The surface biofilm formation and bacterial growth was most dominant under neutral conditions and on the surfaces of GICs compared with other materials. GICs released significantly higher amounts of fluoride than other materials. The results suggest that the increased fluoride release of GICs did not reduce the amount of bacterial growth and biofilm formation on the surfaces of these materials when stored in natural saliva.  相似文献

Competitive adsorption of two-component solutions containing fibronectin (Fn) and albumin (Ab) on hydroxyapatite (HAp) nanocrystals was analyzed in situ using the quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM-D) technique. Adsorption of the one-component protein (Fn or Ab) and the two-component proteins adjusted to different molar ratios of Fn to Ab at a fixed Fn concentration was investigated. The frequency shift (Δf; Hz) and the dissipation energy shift (ΔD) were measured with the QCM-D technique, and the viscoelastic changes of adlayers were evaluated by the saturated ΔDf value and the Voigt-based viscoelastic model. For the adsorption of the one-component protein, the Fn adlayer showed a larger mass and higher viscoelasticity than the Ab adlayer, indicating the higher affinity of Fn on HAp. For the adsorption of the two-component proteins, the viscoelastic properties of the adlayers became elastic with increase in Ab concentration, whereas the adsorption mass was similar to that of Fn in the one-component solution regardless of the Ab concentration. The specific binding mass of the Ab antibody to the adlayers increased with increase in Ab concentration, whereas that of the Fn antibody decreased. Therefore, Fn preferentially adsorbs on HAp and Ab subsequently interacts with the adlayers, indicating that the interfacial viscoelasticity of the adlayers was dominated by the interaction between Fn and Ab.  相似文献
