There is an advantage for users of electrospray and nanospray mass spectrometry to have an understanding of the processes involved in the conversion of the ions present in the solution to ions in the gas phase. A new setup is presented which enables simultaneous wide- and small-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS/SAXS) and Raman spectroscopic experiments during the synthesis of Mo-based mixed oxide catalyst precursors at the μ-spot beamline at the Berliner Elektronenspeicherring-Gesellschaft für Synchrotronstrahlung (BESSY). Furthermore, we report about the separate monitoring of the same reactions under comparable conditions by simultaneous combined ATR/UV–vis/Raman spectroscopic measurements. For testing the performance of both experimental setups two syntheses were described comprising the precipitation of metal molybdates by mixing solutions of metal nitrates and ammonium heptamolybdate. Additionally, the effect of H3PO4 admixture on precipitation was investigated. The combined evaluation of spectroscopic and WAXS/SAXS data allows the discrimination between different molybdate species appearing in solution and precipitate. Furthermore, these molybdate species could be assigned to separate phases of different crystallinity.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted to determine whether changes in soil microbial populations that occur in response to additions of certain allelopathic phenolic acids to bulk soil also occur in the rhizosphere. Cucumber seedlings were transplanted into cups containing a nutrient-enriched mixture of Portsmouth B1, soil and sand and were watered five times (once every 48 hr) with aqueous solutions of ferulic,p-coumaric, or vanillic acid (each at 0, 0.25, or 0.50ol/g soil material). Nutrient solution was applied on alternate days. Leaf growth was suppressed by up to 42% by phenolic acids, but changes in root growth varied with the compound and concentration in solution. Significant increases (over 600% relative to controls) in populations of fast-growing bacteria in the rhizosphere were detected after two but not after five treatments, and increases (400% relative to controls) in numbers of fungal propagules were detected after five treatments. Such increases suggested that chronic exposure to a phenolic acid might resuit in high populations of rhizosphere microorganisms that could metabolize the compounds and thus alter observable responses by the plant. To test this, plants were watered repeatedly with a low-concentration solution of ferulic acid (chronic treatments; 0.0 or 0.1mol/g soil material in one experiment, 0.000 or 0.025imol/g soil material in a second) and then once with a highconcentration solution (acute treatment; 0.0, 0.5, or 1.0mol/g soil material in the first experiment; 0.000, 0.125, or 0.250mol/g soil material in the second).Paper No. 12385 of the Journal Series of the North Carolina Agricultural Research Service, Raleigh, North Carolina. Acute treatments and some chronic treatments suppressed leaf growth, but results were inconsistent for root growth. Acute treatments increased numbers of several types of bacteria in the rhizosphere but had inconsistent effects on fungi. Chronic treatments had no effect on numbers of bacteria or fungal propagules in the rhizosphere. Furthermore, chronic treatments did not alter responses of plants or microbial populations to the subsequent acute treatment. Results demonstrated that phenolic acids in soil, which must pass through the rhizosphere before interaction with plant roots can occur, alter the microbial ecology of the rhizosphere. However, microbially mediated acclimation of plants to relatively high concentrations of ferulic acid was not observed.  相似文献

To determine the relative sensitivities of tomato, cucumber, and bean to exogenously applied concentrations of ferulic acid (FA) and to determine whether FA-induced stress responses increase endogenous levels of abscisic acid (ABA), wild-type andFlacca (ABA-deficient mutant) tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. cv. Ailsa Craig), cucumber, (Cucumis sativus L. cv. Early Green Cluster), and bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L. cv. Oregon 91) were treated with FA (0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.8 mM) in nutrient solution every other day for a total of two or three treatments. FA inhibited leaf growth and water utilization of wild-type tomato,Flacca tomato, and cucumber, but not of bean. Acclimation to FA was observed following the first FA treatment and increased endogenous ABA levels were found in wild-type tomato,Flacca tomato, and cucumber following multiple FA treatments. Induction of ABA biosynthesis occurred in wild-type tomato within 8 hr of FA treatment and maximum ABA levels were observed 24 hr after treatment. At that time, ABA levels of tomato treated with 0.4 and 0.8 mM FA were 13.7 times and 2.6 times higher than control levels, respectively. A second FA (0.4 or 0.8 mM) treatment, 48 hr after the first, did not appear to affect ABA levels. Ninety-six hours after the first treatment, ABA levels of tomato treated with 0.4 mM FA approached control levels; ABA levels of plants treated with 0.8 mM FA were 1.9 times higher than control levels. Control ABA levels increased gradually with time. The alkaloidal venom components of two species of thief ants,Solenopsis (Diplorhoptrum) species AA andS. (Diplorhoptrum)conjurata have been found to contain (5Z,9Z)-3-hexyl-5-methylindolizidine and a mixture of (5Z,9Z)-3-ethyl-5-methylindolizidine andcis-2-methyl-6-nonyl-piperidine,trans-2-methyl-6-nonylpiperidine,cis-2-methyl-6-undecylpiperidine, and hexadecanoic acid.Monomorium pharaonis was similarly investigated and found to contain the indolizidine and pyrrolidines previously described (Ritter et al., 1977b). Both indolizidines were synthesized along with their stereoisomers and separated by preparative gas chromatography. Spectral studies revealed the stereochemistry to be 5Z,9Z in both cases. The stereochemistry of 2-butyl-5-pentylpyrrolidine inM. phaeronis has also been established. Biosynthetic relationships are discussed.  相似文献

Manufacture of fatty alcohols based on natural fats and oils   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The present worldwide capacity of fatty alcohols is ca. 1.0 million metric tons per year. About 60% of this capacity is based on petrochemical feedstocks, 40% on natural fats and oils. Three basic dominating commercial-scale processes are used to manufacture fatty alcohols: the Ziegler process and the Oxo synthesis starting from petrochemical feedstocks, and the high-pressure hydrogenation of natural fatty acids and esters. Basically, the high-pressure hydrogenation can be used with triglycerides, fatty acids or fatty acid esters as feedstock. The direct hydrogenation of fats and oils has not been developed to a commercial-scale process, mainly because it was not possible to prevent decomposition of the valuable byproduct glycerol. Conversion of fatty acids into fatty alcohols by catalytic hydrogenation without preesterification requires corrosion-resistant materials of construction and acid-resistant catalysts. Required reaction temperatures are higher, resulting in a higher hydrocarbon content. The majority of fatty alcohol plants based on natural fats and oils use methyl esters as feedstock. These can be made either by esterification of fatty acids or by-transesterification of triglycerides. For catalytic high-pressure hydrogenation of methyl esters to fatty alcohols, several process options have been developed. The bawic distinguishing feature is the catalyst application either in a fixed bed arrangement or suspended in the methyl ester feed.  相似文献

Kinetics of aerobic waste water treatment by degrading organic compounds and by nitrification . Both aerobic degradation of organic substances and nitrification can be described by the double substrate kinetics of Monod; dissolved organic material and ammonium or nitrite are the first substrate and oxygen the second one. The determination of the different kinetic coefficients by evaluation of measurements on a laboratory scale is explained first, and known results are then presented and discussed. Finally, it is demonstrated by two examples, viz. the simultaneous oxidation of carbon and nitrogen compounds and oxygen-limited substrate removal, how reaction kinetic models can be used to obtain important information about the characteristics of the bioreactions.  相似文献

Veal calves fed by bucket often develop postprandial insulin resistance, hyperglycemia, and glucosuria during fattening. Automatic feeding systems allow feed intake for 24 h, and small ingested portions are expected to decrease postprandial glucose loads. We have studied metabolic and endocrine traits in calves that were either 1) fed identical daily amounts of whole milk plus milk replacer by a computer-programmed automatic feeder (> or =6 portions from 0800 to 2400 h) (GrA) or 2) fed by bucket at 0800 and 1630 h (GrB). Calves started at a body weight of 118 kg, and the experiment lasted for 3 wk. During wk 3, lactose was supplemented to stress postabsorptive glucose homeostasis. Feed intake and average daily gains in GrA and GrB were similar. Plasma concentrations during an 8-h period of glucose (in part), lactate, urea, and somatostatin (in wk 3), and of glucagon and insulin (wk 2 and 3) were smaller in GrA than in GrB, whereas growth hormone, insulin-like growth factor I, insulin-like growth factor binding protein-1 (wk 2), and prolactin concentrations (wk 2 and 3) were higher. Lactose supplementation in wk 3 enhanced transient postprandial hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia. Thus, there were marked metabolic and endocrine differences when calves sucked their feed in six or more portions during a 16-h period from an automatic feeder compared with twice daily drinking from a bucket. Ingestion of small portions by calves avoided marked hyperglycemia and lactate increments, and lower plasma urea concentrations mirrored enhanced nitrogen utilization, possibly mediated by the altered growth hormone, IGF-I and insulin status.  相似文献
