A continuous ultrasound assisted process using a single screw compounding extruder with an ultrasonic attachment was developed to prepare polyolefin/clay nanocomposites. High‐density polyethylene and isotactic polypropylene were compared. The feed rate that controls the residence time of the polymer in the ultrasonic treatment zone was varied. Die pressure and power consumption were measured. Rheological properties, morphology, and mechanical properties of the untreated and ultrasonically treated nanocomposites were studied. Similarities and differences of obtained nanocomposites are discussed based on their properties and structural characteristics. The modified Halpin‐Tsai theory of composite materials has been employed in order to predict the effect of incomplete exfoliation of clay platelets on the Young's modulus of the nanocomposites. A good agreement between experimental and theoretical data has been observed when reduction of the reinforcement efficiency of clay had been incorporated through the reduced aspect ratio of elementary clay platelets. Polymethylmethacrylate/starch (PMMA/starch) composites were prepared by emulsion polymerization method using potassium persulphate (KPS) as the radical initiator. The interaction of starch with polymethylmethacrylate was evidenced by ultraviolet–visible (UV–visible) spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The structure of PMMA/starch composite was studied by X‐ray diffraction (XRD) study and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The thermal properties of starch, PMMA/starch composites were compared with the virgin PMMA sample. The PMMA/starch composites were found to be flame retardant material from the measurement of limiting oxygen index (LOI) of samples. The biodegradability of the PMMA/starch composites were studied by active sludge water and it was found that degradability of composites increases with increasing time interval. The oxygen permeability of PMMA/starch composites was substantially decreased as compared to virgin PMMA. Long-term aerobic exercise improves cognition in both human and nonhuman animals and induces plastic changes in the central nervous system (CNS), including neurogenesis and angiogenesis. However, the early and immediate effects of exercise on the CNS have not been adequately explored. There is some evidence to suggest that exercise is initially challenging to the nervous system and that the plastic changes commonly associated with chronic exercise may result as adaptations to this challenge. The current experiment assessed levels of apoptosis, angiogenesis, and neurogenesis during the first week of an exercise regimen in the adult rat. The results indicate that exercise rapidly induces these processes in the hippocampus and cerebellum. The temporal pattern of these events suggests that voluntary exercise in the adult rat rapidly and transiently induces apoptosis, followed by angiogenesis. Neurogenesis is an immediate and independent consequence of exercise in the hippocampus that may require the additional metabolic support supplied by angiogenesis. This is the first report of CNS neuronal apoptosis as a consequence of exercise in the adult rat and suggests that this process is a potential mediator of rapid exercise-induced plasticity. TENT4A (PAPD7) is a non-canonical poly(A) polymerase, of which little is known. Here, we show that TENT4A regulates multiple biological pathways and focuses on its multilayer regulation of translesion DNA synthesis (TLS), in which error-prone DNA polymerases bypass unrepaired DNA lesions. We show that TENT4A regulates mRNA stability and/or translation of DNA polymerase η and RAD18 E3 ligase, which guides the polymerase to replication stalling sites and monoubiquitinates PCNA, thereby enabling recruitment of error-prone DNA polymerases to damaged DNA sites. Remarkably, in addition to the effect on RAD18 mRNA stability via controlling its poly(A) tail, TENT4A indirectly regulates RAD18 via the tumor suppressor CYLD and via the long non-coding antisense RNA PAXIP1-AS2, which had no known function. Knocking down the expression of TENT4A or CYLD, or overexpression of PAXIP1-AS2 led each to reduced amounts of the RAD18 protein and DNA polymerase η, leading to reduced TLS, highlighting PAXIP1-AS2 as a new TLS regulator. Bioinformatics analysis revealed that TLS error-prone DNA polymerase genes and their TENT4A-related regulators are frequently mutated in endometrial cancer genomes, suggesting that TLS is dysregulated in this cancer.  相似文献

Nanomaterials gained great importance on account of their wide range of applications in many areas. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) exhibit exceptional electrical, thermal, gas barrier, and tensile properties and can therefore be used for the development of a new generation of composite materials. Functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) reinforced Polyacrylonitrile‐co‐starch nanocomposites were prepared by in situ polymerization technique. The structural property of PAN‐co‐starch/MWCNT nanocomposites was studied by X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The conductivity, tensile strength, and thermal properties of nanocomposites were measured as a function of MWCNT concentrations. The thermal stability, conductivity, and tensile strength of PAN‐co‐starch/MWCNT nanocomposites were improved with increasing concentration of MWCNTs. Oxygen barrier property of PAN‐co‐starch/MWCNT nanocomposites was calculated and it was found that, the property was reduced substantially with increase of MWCNTs proportion. The synthesized PAN‐co‐starch/MWCNT nanocomposites may used for electrostatically dissipative materials, aerospace or sporting goods, and electronic materials. © 2013 Society of Plastics Engineers  相似文献

The paper characterizes the hello message exchange (HME) procedure for a sensor node to develop its neighborhood residual energy distribution in the initialization phase of a static wireless sensor network. Because of the lack of coordination on channel access in the initialization phase, hello messages from multiple nodes face a high risk of data collision in the exchange course. A discovery ratio is hereby defined to measure the sufficiency of the HME procedure. The discovery ratio is related to the precision of the parameter estimates for the probability density function of a node's neighborhood residual energy distribution. To achieve an arbitrarily high discovery ratio within a resolvable time interval, the HME procedure is implemented using Birthday protocol, which results in large node energy consumption. To overcome this flaw, a method termed carrier sensing mini‐slot algorithm is proposed to carry out the HME procedure. The time duration and the node energy consumption for the HME procedures based on the Birthday protocol and the carrier sensing mini‐slot algorithm, respectively, are theoretically analyzed and verified by simulations. Small-crack effects were investigated in two high-strength aluminium alloys: 7075-T6 bare and LC9cs clad aluminium alloys. Both experimental and analytical investigations were conducted to study crack initiation and growth of small cracks. In the experimental program, fatigue and small-crack tests were conducted on single-edge-notch tension (SENT) specimens and large-crack tests were conducted on middle-crack tension specimens under constant-amplitude and Mini-TWIST spectrum loading. A pronounced small-crack effect was observed in both materials, especially for the negative stress ratios. For all loading conditions, most of the fatigue life of the SENT specimens was shown to be crack propagation from initial material defects or from the cladding layer. In the analysis program, three-dimensional finite-element and weight-function methods were used to determine stress intensity factors, and to develop equations for surface and corner cracks at the notch in the SENT specimen. This part focuses on a crack closure and fatigue analysis of the data presented in Part I. A plasticity-induced crack-closure model was used to correlate large-crack growth rate data to develop the baseline effective stress intensity factor range (Δ K eff ) against rate relations for each material, ignoring the large-crack threshold. The model was then used with the Δ K eff rate relation and the stress intensity factors for surface or corner cracks to make fatigue life predictions. The initial defect sizes chosen in the fatigue analyses were similar to those that initiated failure in the specimens. Predicted small-crack growth rates and fatigue lives agreed well with experiments.  相似文献
