The effects of fertilisers, frequency of cutting, row spacing and simazine on the yields of dry matter and extractable protein from lucerne (Medicago sativa L.) were studied using the laboratory-scale pulper and press. Between 40 and 65% protein nitrogen was extractable; extractability was not affected by the various treatments but altered with season. Lucerne responded with increased yields of dry matter and extractable protein to fertilisers, simazine (35 g/ha) and rows spaced at 30.5 cm. Six or 8 harvests were found to give greater yields than 5 harvests in 180 days. The annual yields of extractable protein reached 3100 kg/ha and it is felt that better control of pests could lead to even greater yields. 相似文献

Polypropylene (PP) was blended with branched polyethylenimine (PEI) with the aim to prepare blends having CO2 adsorption property. The CO2 adsorption properties will be conferred due to the presence of variety of amine functionality in PEI. PEI contains primary, secondary as well as tertiary amine groups. Before testing CO2 adsorption, PP–PEI blends were characterized using variety of techniques, for example, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, dynamic mechanical analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and polarized light optical microscopy. In this work, we have studied in detail both compatibilized as well as noncompatibilized blends of PP and PEI. The compatibilization was achieved via addition of maleic anhydride grafted PP. Finally, all the compatibilized as well as noncompatibilized blends were studied for CO2 adsorption. The compatibilized blends showed better thermal, mechanical as well as CO2 adsorption properties as compared to the noncompatibilized blends. POLYM. ENG. This paper primarily discusses the profile of minor components in hemp seed oil and their beneficial and adverse effects on oil quality. The influence of varying the CaO/MgO ratio on the structure and thermal properties of CaO–MgO–SiO2–P2O5–CaF2 glasses was studied in a series of eight glass compositions in the glass forming region of diopside (CaMgSi2O6)–fluorapatite [Ca5(PO4)3F]–wollastonite (CaSiO3) ternary system. The melt-quenched glasses were characterized for their structure by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and magic angle spinning (MAS)-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Silicon is predominantly present as Q2 (Si) species, while phosphorus tends to coordinate in orthophosphate environment. The sintering and crystallization parameters of the glasses were obtained from differential thermal analysis (DTA) while crystalline phase fractions in the sintered glass–ceramics were analyzed by X-ray diffraction adjoined with Rietveld refinement. Diopside, fluorapatite, wollastonite and pseudowollastonite crystallized as the main crystalline phases in all the glass–ceramics with their content varying with respect to variation in CaO/MgO ratio in glasses. The implications of structure and sintering behaviour of glasses on their bioactivity were discussed. 相似文献

The influence of polymorphism on nanometric machinability of single crystal silicon carbide (SiC) has been investigated through molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. The simulation results are compared with silicon as a reference material.Cutting hardness was adopted as a quantifier of the machinability of the polytypes of single crystal SiC. 3C-SiC offered highest cutting resistance (~2.9 times that of silicon) followed by the 4H-SiC (~2.8 times that of silicon) whereas 6H-SiC (~2.1 times that of silicon) showed the least. Despite its high cutting resistance, 4H-SiC showed the minimum sub-surface crystal lattice deformed layer depth, in contrast to 6H-SiC. Further analysis of temperatures in the cutting zone and the percentage tool wear indicated that single point diamond turning (SPDT) of single crystal SiC could be limited to either 6H-SiC or 4H-SiC depending upon quality and cost considerations as these were found to be more responsive and amenable to SPDT compared to single crystal 3C-SiC. 相似文献

Fine grain nanocomposites of (100 ? x) PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 ? (x) CeO2 with x = 0.5, 1 and 2 wt%, were prepared and characterized for structural and microstructural changes. Addition of ceria nanoparticles resulted into a fine grain microstructure with average grain size ranging from 600 nm to 440 nm and a significant decrease in sintering temperature (~200 °C). Size distribution profile, as analyzed by lognormal distribution function suggests a very narrow size distribution. X-ray diffraction analyses of sintered samples reveal that fine grain PZT/CeO2 nanocomposite could retain distorted tetragonal structure even with grain size as low as 440 nm. Further, complex impedance spectroscopy studies were performed to illustrate the electrical properties of bulk and grain boundary phases in fine grain ceramics. Two electrical processes in the impedance spectra at temperatures above 350 °C were attributed to bulk and grain boundary phase. Magnitude of grain boundary capacitance and corresponding transition was found to be strongly dependent on grain size of the system. The bacterium Bacillus altitudinis AP-MSU, able to produce esterase was isolated from the gut of marine fish Sardinella longiceps. The esterase production was investigated in solid-state fermentation experiment using various fish processing waste meal. Among the tested fish processing wastes, red grouper waste emerged as the best source for higher esterase production. The suitable surfactant and triglyceride identified to increase the lipase production was neem oil. Effect of individual carbon and nitrogen sources supplementation on esterase production revealed that fructose and peptone aided the higher esterase production than the other tested carbon and nitrogen sources. The suitable concentration of sodium chloride for higher esterase production was at 5%. Effect of surfactants and trace elements on esterase production showed that Tween 20 and zinc sulphate, respectively produced maximum amount of esterase. The effect of physical parameters on lipase production revealed that 50 °C temperature and pH 7–8 were optimum for higher esterase production. Statistical optimization with Plackett–Burman design showed that neem oil, NaCl and fructose were found to be the most predictive factors for esterase production by this strain. 相似文献

Owing to its good chemical and thermal durabilities at high temperatures, Monofrax K-3 refractory is widely used in nuclear waste vitrification as a lining material in melting vessels. However, the corrosion of K-3 refractory during the vitrification of nuclear waste is a serious problem because it affects the melter's safety, performance, and lifetime. Therefore, in the present study, we have focused on unearthing the impact of glass network formers, such as SiO2, B2O3, and Al2O3, in a model nuclear waste glass composition on the corrosion of Monofrax K-3 refractory. The corrosion tests have been performed per ASTM C621 at 1150°C for 5 days. The dimensional measurements on corroded K-3 refractory suggest that Al2O3 and SiO2 tend to reduce the refractory corrosion (neck loss), with the effect of Al2O3 being significant. A corroded region on the K-3 refractory at the melt–refractory interface is observed. The corrosion occurs via a coupling of the melt infiltration induced by a capillary effect and the dissolution of Al, Mg, and Fe components from K-3 into the melt through chemical reactions. A Cr-rich layer is retained on the glass contact surface of the corroded K-3 refractory. 相似文献
