Superior manufacturing capability provides long lasting competitive benefits to a company in the market. It is thus imperative to have an instrument to assess the manufacturing capability of companies. However, empirically tested and reliable tools for the purpose of evaluation of manufacturing capability along different decision areas are scarcely available in the literature. This paper develops questionnaires based on generally accepted principle of instrument design to assess the manufacturing capabilities along different decision areas for four categorization schemes of manufacturing decision areas reported in the literature. The reliability and validity of all four instruments are assessed through responses from managers of 32 manufacturing units and are found to be satisfactory for most of the factors. A series of 18 tensile coupons were monitored with an acoustic emission (AE) system, while loading them up to failure. AE signals emitted due to different failure modes in tensile coupons were recorded. Amplitude, duration, energy, counts, etc., are the effective parameters to classify the different failure modes in composites, viz., matrix crazing, fiber cut, and delamination, with several subcategories such as matrix splitting, fiber/matrix debonding, fiber pullout, etc. Back propagation neural network was generated to predict the failure load of tensile specimens. Three different networks were developed with the amplitude distribution data of AE collected up to 30%, 40%, and 50% of the failure loads, respectively. Amplitude frequencies of 12 specimens in the training set and the corresponding failure loads were used to train the network. Only amplitude frequencies of six remaining specimens were given as input to get the output failure load from the trained network. The results of three independent networks were compared, and we found that the network trained with more data was having better prediction performance. 相似文献

Electrochemical (EC) oxidation of distillery wastewater with low (BOD5/COD) ratio was investigated using aluminum plates as electrodes. The effects of operating parameters such as pH, electrolysis
duration, and current density on COD removal were studied. At a current density of 0.03 A cm−2 and at pH 3, the COD removal was found to be 72.3%. The BOD5/COD ratio increased from 0.15 to 0.68 for an optimum of 120-min electrolysis duration indicating improvement of biodegradability
of wastewater. The maximum anodic efficiency observed was 21.58 kg COD h−1 A−1 m−2, and the minimum energy consumption observed was 0.084 kWh kg−1 COD. The kinetic study results revealed that reaction rate (k) decreased from 0.011 to 0.0063 min−1 with increase in pH from 3 to 9 while the k value increased from 0.0035 to 0.0102 min−1 with increase in current density from 0.01 to 0.03 A cm−2. This study showed that the COD reduction is more influenced by the current density. The linear and the nonlinear regression

Surface ultrastructures of gill filaments and secondary lamellae of Rita rita and Cirrhinus mrigala, inhabiting different ecological habitat, were investigated to unravel adaptive modifications. R. rita is a sluggish, bottom dwelling carnivorous catfish, which inhabits regions of river with accumulations of dirty water. It retains its viability for long time if taken out of water. C. mrigala is an active bottom dwelling Indian major carp, which lives in relatively clean water and dies shortly after taken out of water. In R. rita, gill septa between gill filaments are reduced. Microridges on epithelial cells covering gill filaments are often continuous and arranged concentrically. Secondary lamellae are extensive. The epithelium appears corrugated, show irregular elevations and shallow depressions, and microridges on epithelial cells appear fragmented. In C. mrigala, in contrast, the gill septa are extensive. Microridges on epithelial cells covering gill filaments are fragmented. Secondary lamellae are less extensive. The epithelium appears smooth and microridges on epithelial cells are relatively inconspicuous. These differences have been considered adaptive modification in relation to habit and ecological niches inhabited by two fish species. Presence of mucous goblet cells on gill filaments is discussed in relation to their functions including precipitation of the sediments and preventing clogging of gill filaments. Infrequent mucous goblet cells in the epithelium of secondary lamellae in two fish species are considered an adaptation, minimizing thickness of the epithelium to reduce barrier between blood and water for favoring gasses exchange with increased efficiency. 相似文献

Presented here in the framework of the generalized BCS equations??which are based on multiple phonon exchanges for the formation of Cooper pairs (CPs)??is continuation of a study carried out earlier for MgB2 Nb3Sn and YBCO. Addressed now are the principal members of the Tl- and Bi-based high-T c superconductors. For any of these, with the input of any two parameters from the set {critical temperature, two gaps}, and the Debye temperature, it is shown that one can calculate the remaining parameter. This is similar to what normal BCS equations achieve for a simple superconductor. Further, we show that these equations lead to upper bounds on the gap- and the T c -values of a HTSC, beyond which one must invoke 2/3-phonon mechanism for the formation of CPs. Our considerations suggest the interesting possibility that senior members of the said families of cuprates may be three-gap SCs. 相似文献

The combination of a total lower lip, chin, and anterior mandibular defect following cancer resection is an extremely complex problem that requires a sequence of operations to optimize functional and aesthetic results. One patient is presented in whom the defect was reconstructed with a free fibular flap followed by a series of ancillary procedures using both modern and traditional techniques. At the time of tumor ablation, the through-and-through oromandibular defect was reconstructed with a fibular osteocutaneous flap. The lower lip and gingivolabial sulcus was reconstructed later with a tongue flap. Tissue expansion was subsequently used to replace the fibular skin with expanded submental hair-bearing skin. A polyethylene implant was added later to the fibular bone for chin augmentation. Subsequently the lower lip was supported with a tendinous graft suspended to the anterior masseter bilaterally. Lastly, the vermilion border was elevated by removing a rim of the tongue flap and covering the secondary wound with a full-thickness skin graft. At the end of the reconstructive procedures, lip seal and oral aperture were good with no drooling and excellent speech. 相似文献

We examined the localization of phosphotyrosine (p-Tyr)-modified proteins in the normal corneal epithelium using affinity-purified rabbit anti-p-Tyr antibody. Normal rat cornea was fixed and semi-thin and ultra-thin frozen sections were prepared. Immunofluorescence microscopy showed that p-Tyr was distributed along the cell membrane of the corneal epithelium. Immunogold electron microscopy revealed that the labeling is exclusively localized in the desmosomes and hemidesmosomes. A fraction enriched with desmosomes was extracted from the bovine corneal epithelium and examined by Western blotting. Immunoblotting for p-Tyr showed eight prominent bands (290, 200, 190, 115, 85, 62, 50, and 47 kD) in the desmosomal fraction. The enrichment of p-Tyr in desmosomes and hemidesmosomes of the corneal epithelium suggests that these cell-to-cell and cell-to-substrate junctions are involved in signal transduction. 相似文献

A theory for two-dimensional long and stationary waves of finite-amplitude on a thin viscoelastic fluid (weakly elastic) layer flowing down an inclined plane is investigated. A set of exact averaged equations for the viscoelastic film flow system is described and linearised stability analysis of the uniform flow is performed using normal-mode formulation and the critical condition for linear instability is obtained. The linearised instability for the permanent wave equation, consistent to the second order in (, – unperturbed film thickness, L – characteristic length) is examined and the eigenvalue properties of the fixed points are classified in various parametric regimes. The possible domains of heteroclinic orbits and the regions of possible nonlinear bifurcations are analysed for different values of viscoelastic parameter Γ. Numerical integration of the permanent wave equation as a third order dynamical system is carried out. While wave transitions in real life involve complex spatio-temporal dynamics and many of these transitions lead to chaotic waves that are not stationary traveling waves, bifurcation of stationary traveling waves has been examined as a preliminary study of the more complex transitions. Different bifurcation scenarios leading to multiple hump solitary waves or leading to chaos are exhibited in the parametric space. The results are compared and contrasted with the Newtonian results. A summary of the bifurcation scenarios in the We versus cot θ/Re plane is obtained for different values of viscoelastic parameter Γ, when Re ≈ 13.33 and Re = 100. 相似文献

Defects in the disordered (uniaxial) liquid crystals, nematic, smecticA and cholesteric, and the use of topological analysis in classifying them, are discussed. While the latter is very successful
in classifying defects in nematics, it fails to do so in the case of smecticA and cholesteric liquid crystals because of geometrical constraints. However, topological arguments have been partially successful
in predicting some of the defects in cholesterics. The known features of the isotropic (cubic and amorphous) cholesteric blue
