While high-performance architectures have included some Instruction-Level Parallelism (ILP) for at least 25 years, recent computer designs have exploited ILP to a significant degree. Although a local scheduler is not sufficient for generation of excellent ILP code, it is necessary as many global scheduling and software pipelining techniques rely on a local scheduler. Global scheduling techniques are well-documented, yet practical discussions of local schedulers are notable in their absence. This paper strives to remedy that disparity by describing a list scheduling framework and several important practical details that, taken together, allow implementation of an efficient local instruction scheduler that is easily retargetable for ILP architectures. The foundation of our machine-independent instruction scheduler is a timing model that allows easy retargetability to a wide range of architectures. In addition to describing how a general list-scheduler can be implemented within the framework of our timing model, experimental results indicate that lookahead scheduling can profoundly improve a scheduler's ability to produce a legal schedule. Further experimental data shows that deciding to schedule a data dependence DAG (DDD) in forward or reverse order depends significantly upon that target architecture, suggesting the possibility of scheduling in each direction and using the best of the two schedules. In contrast, experiments demonstrate little difference in code quality for schedules generated by either instruction-driven or operation-driven schedulers. Thus, the inherent flexibility of operation-driven methods suggests including that approach in a retargetable instruction scheduler. List scheduling is, of course, a heuristic scheduling method. A variety of scheduling heuristics are presented. In addition, the paper describes a method, using a genetic algorithm search, to ‘fine-tune’ the weights of twenty-four individual heuristics to form a DDD-node heuristic tuned to a specific architecture. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

Grain sorghum is a rich source of phytochemicals. In this study, male hamsters were fed AIN-93M diets supplemented with a hexane-extractable lipid fraction from sorghum distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS). Diets contained 0.0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, and 5.0% (w/w) DDGS lipid extract. After 4 wk, the 5.0% DDGS lipids group had significantly lower plasma non-HDL cholesterol and liver esterified cholesterol concentration. Faecal neutral sterol (i.e., cholesterol) excretion was significantly higher in the 5.0% DDGS lipids group compared to the other treatments (66% higher compared to controls). Bile acid excretion was not affected by DDGS lipid intake. Faecal cholesterol excretion was negatively correlated with liver cholesterol concentration (r = ?0.97, P = 0.026), and liver cholesterol concentration was directly correlated with plasma total cholesterol concentration (r = 0.96, P = 0.041). Thus, lipid extract of sorghum DDGS exhibited cholesterol-lowering properties due, at least in part, to increased cholesterol excretion from the body and could provide health benefits when incorporated into human diets. 相似文献

Indigenous lactic acid fermented foods may have potential as probiotic treatment for diarrhoea, due to high levels of lactic acid bacteria. In this study the effect of a millet drink, spontaneously fermented by lactic acid bacteria, as a therapeutic agent among Ghanaian children with diarrhoea, was assessed. Children below 5 years of age coming to Northern Ghana health clinics for treatment of diarrhoea were randomised to two groups. Children of both groups received treatment for diarrhoea given at the local clinic. The intervention group in addition received up to 300 ml fermented millet drink (KSW) daily for 5 days after enrolment. The clinical outcome of diarrhoea and reported well-being were registered every day for the 5-day intervention and again 14 days after diagnosis. Among 184 children (mean age 17.4, standard deviation 11.3 months) included, no effects of the intervention were found with respect to stool frequency, stool consistency and duration of diarrhoea. However, KSW was associated with greater reported well-being 14 days after the start of the intervention (P = 0.02). The fact that no effect of KSW on diarrhoea was observed could be because many children had a mild form of diarrhoea, and many were treated with antibiotics. Either this could have affected the lactic acid bacteria, or the lactic acid bacteria in KSW had no probiotic effects. It is speculated that the effect after two weeks could be due to a preventing effect of KSW on antibiotic-associated diarrhoea which could help reducing persistent diarrhoea. 相似文献

For nearly a decade, researchers have debated the mechanisms by which AgNPs exert toxicity to bacteria and other organisms. The most elusive question has been whether the AgNPs exert direct "particle-specific" effects beyond the known antimicrobial activity of released silver ions (Ag(+)). Here, we infer that Ag(+) is the definitive molecular toxicant. We rule out direct particle-specific biological effects by showing the lack of toxicity of AgNPs when synthesized and tested under strictly anaerobic conditions that preclude Ag(0) oxidation and Ag(+) release. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the toxicity of various AgNPs (PEG- or PVP- coated, of three different sizes each) accurately follows the dose-response pattern of E. coli exposed to Ag(+) (added as AgNO(3)). Surprisingly, E. coli survival was stimulated by relatively low (sublethal) concentration of all tested AgNPs and AgNO(3) (at 3-8 μg/L Ag(+), or 12-31% of the minimum lethal concentration (MLC)), suggesting a hormetic response that would be counterproductive to antimicrobial applications. Overall, this work suggests that AgNP morphological properties known to affect antimicrobial activity are indirect effectors that primarily influence Ag(+) release. Accordingly, antibacterial activity could be controlled (and environmental impacts could be mitigated) by modulating Ag(+) release, possibly through manipulation of oxygen availability, particle size, shape, and/or type of coating. 相似文献

Hue-scaling data were collected from three observers using the "4+1" color-naming procedure for circular (0.25°-5°), monochromatic (440-660 nm) stimuli. Stimuli were presented at ±10° along the vertical and horizontal meridians under conditions chosen to include both rod and cone signals (no bleach) and to minimize rod contribution (bleach). All color-naming data were analyzed and compared using uniform appearance diagrams. Smaller stimuli appear more desaturated under both bleach conditions. This effect is particularly detrimental for the perception of green and is influenced by retinal location and exacerbated with rod input. As stimulus size increases and perceptive field sizes are filled for all four elemental hues, the differences in hue perception among the four peripheral locations and the two bleach conditions are attenuated. PlsY is a recently discovered acyltransferase that executes an essential step in membrane phospholipid biosynthesis in Gram‐ positive bacteria. By using a bioisosteric replacement approach to generate substrate‐based inhibitors of PlsY as potential novel antibacterial agents, a series of stabilized acyl phosphate mimetics, including acyl phosphonates, acyl α,α‐difluoromethyl phosphonates, acyl phosphoramides, reverse amide phosphonates, acyl sulfamates, and acyl sulfamides were designed and synthesized. Several acyl phosphonates, phosphoramides, and sulfamates were identified as inhibitors of PlsY from Streptococcus pneumoniae and Bacillus anthracis. As anticipated, these inhibitors were competitive inhibitors with respect to the acyl phosphate substrate. Antimicrobial testing showed the inhibitors to have generally weak activity against Gram‐positive bacteria with the exception of some acyl phosphonates, reverse amide phosphonates, and acyl sulfamates, which had potent activity against multiple strains of B. anthracis. 相似文献
