Inorganic fullerene-like molybdenum disulfide (IF-MoS2) nanoparticles are known to exhibit great friction and wear-reducing abilities in severe boundary lubrication regimes, when added to a base oil alone. Their use in fully formulated lubricants was investigated in this study, and the tribological benefits attributed to the IF-MoS2 nanoparticles were found to be lost in the presence of dispersants. Various experimental techniques were used on three reference oils (base oil containing only IF-MoS2, only dispersants and both IF-MoS2 and dispersants) in order to understand the effect of succinimide-based dispersants on the three phases needed for effective nanoparticle-based lubrication, namely (1) the passing of the nanoparticles through the contact (2) the exfoliation of the IF-MoS2 inside the contact and (3) the adhesion of the released MoS2 platelets on the friction surfaces. The dispersants were shown to improve the dispersion of the nanoparticles in the oil by reducing their agglomeration, but prevented the adhesion of a low-friction MoS2 tribofilm on the steel surfaces. In-situ contact visualization revealed that the well-dispersed nanoparticles passed through the contact and exfoliated nanoparticles were observed after tribological testing. These results imply that nanoparticle dispersion itself does not seem to be an issue concerning nanoparticle effectiveness, even though the reduced agglomerate size and inertia may have affected nanoparticle flow near the contact, as well as entrapment and exfoliation conditions inside the contact. The use of succinimide-based dispersants may, however, have affected the tribochemistry of the contact, by an excessive adsorption on the steel surfaces and/or by encapsulating the released MoS2 platelets, preventing tribofilm adhesion. A balance was finally found between nanoparticle dispersion and friction reduction, but for very low dispersant concentrations and after a running-in period. The role of succinimide-based dispersants and their effect on nanoparticle lubrication were discussed in the light of these results.  相似文献

The surface roughness of thin films is an important parameter related to the sticking behaviour of surfaces in the manufacturing of microelectomechanical systems (MEMS). In this work, TiO2 films made by atomic layer deposition (ALD) with the TiCl4-H2O process were characterized for their growth, roughness and crystallinity as function of deposition temperature (110-300 degrees C), film thickness (up to approximately 100 nm) and substrate (thermal SiO2, RCA-cleaned Si, Al2O3). TiO2 films got rougher with increasing film thickness and to some extent with increasing deposition temperature. The substrate drastically influenced the crystallization behaviour of the film: for films of about 20 nm thickness, on thermal SiO2 and RCA-cleaned Si, anatase TiO2 crystal diameter was about 40 nm, while on Al2O3 surface the diameter was about a micrometer. The roughness could be controlled from 0.2 nm up to several nanometers, which makes the TiO2 films candidates for adhesion engineering in MEMS.  相似文献

The article deals with the effect of processing procedures and conditions on structural, morphological, and rheological properties of ternary blends composed of polyethylene (PE), polyamide (PA)‐12, and organically modified montmorillonite nanoclay with selective affinity. Samples were prepared from PE/PA and PA/PE blends, either by simultaneous mixing or from a polymer/clay masterbatch, using two processing conditions. The results have shown the existence of a weight fraction threshold, above which no significant processing effect was observed. Below this weight fraction threshold, the results tend to underline the significant role of two parameters that depend on processing procedures and/or conditions: the contact time between PE and PA phases and the contact time between clay and PA. Clay structure, blend morphology, and rheological properties were all shown to depend on these two parameters, and also on the nature of the matrix (PE or PA), because of the selective affinity of clay toward polymer phases. We report on the performance of biomimicked antireflection coating applied to dilute nitride solar cell. The coating consists of nanostructures replicating the moth‐eye geometry and has been fabricated by nanoimprint lithography directly within the window layer covering the dilute nitride absorbing junction. The mean reflectivity within the spectral range of 320–1800 nm remains under 5% for incident angles up to 45°. The effect of the coating on the cell performance was assessed by measuring the current–voltage characteristics under simulated solar illumination. A clear performance increase was identified when comparing a solar cell with the moth‐eye coating with a solar cell having a standard SiNx/SiO2 coating. An experimental study of metallic contaminant effects on surface indentation in EHL contacts is presented. Particles are initially spherical and are composed of M50 high-carbon steel powder. Their diameter ranges from 32 to 40 μm. An original lubrication system with a controlled level of contamination was built. The contaminant distribution and concentration are measured on-line by an automatic particle counter. Tests are conducted on a two-disk machine with different operating conditions. Particles may travel through the EHL contact only one time, the lubricant flow being used only once. The oil is a synthetic one qualified under the MIL-L-23699 specification. An optical profilometer is used to describe the indent topography and a CCD video camera to count the number of dents.

The test bench is described and the experimental procedure is presented. Specific tests were performed to quality the contamination bench. The combined effects of particles concentration and test duration on dent distribution were studied. Some results on the shape and concentration of indents versus operating conditions are presented. It is shown that over the range of test conditions considered, the number of indents on the raceways can be estimated from the particle concentration in the oil bulk. This leads to the conclusion that the particle entry ratio is close to one, i.e., the concentration of particles inside the EHL contact is close to those in the bulk.  相似文献

It is shown that the (infinite) tiling problem by Wang tiles is undecidable even if the given tile set is deterministic by all four corners, i.e. a tile is uniquely determined by the colors of any two adjacent edges. In this study, the local electrochemical activity of untreated and passivated (natural or chemical passivation) zinc specimens was observed during immersion in a 0.1-M NaCl solution. The localized anodic activity during the exposure, measured with the scanning vibrating electrode technique, was linked to zinc dissolution by the pitting corrosion mechanism. It was correlated to specific corrosion products characterized by Fourier transmission infrared (FTIR) microscopy. FTIR molecule maps were produced from individual pitting corrosion sites (100–200 µm in width). With argon ion beam milling and latest energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) technology, element maps with a high spatial resolution (≪100 nm) were recorded from abrasion- and beam-sensitive corrosion products, showing a residual layer structure. This study demonstrates the capability of FTIR mapping, cross-section polishing, and state-of-the-art scanning electron microscopy imaging, and EDS element mapping to produce high-resolution elemental, molecular, and visual information about pitting corrosion mechanisms on a hot-dip galvanized steel sample.  相似文献

The first demonstration of a high sidelobe suppression, tunable, electro-optic filter fabricated in lithium niobate for 1.55 mu m is reported. Weighting of the mode convertor structure using a Taylor distribution resulted in a -3 dB passband width of 1.6 nm and nearest sidelobes of -25 dB. BACKGROUND: Familial combined hyperlipidemia is the commonest genetic form of hyperlipidemia among survivors of myocardial infarction and, therefore, its early detection is crucial for the prevention of coronary artery disease. The aim of the study was to establish the prevalence of hyperlipidemia in the offspring of affected families and to characterize their lipid, lipoprotein and apolipoprotein profile. PATIENT AND METHODS: Forty five subjects below the age of 19 were studied from which 30 were from affected families and 15 from healthy control families. Cholesterol and triglycerides in plasma, VLDL, IDL, LDL and HDL as well as apolipoproteins AI, B, C-II and C-III were measured. RESULTS: Hyperlipidemia was detected in 13 children (43%) from affected families. They also presented significantly elevated concentrations of cholesterol in plasma (p < 0.0001), LDL (p < 0.0001) and HDL (p < 0.05); triglycerides in plasma (p < 0.007), VLDL (p < 0.05) and LDL (p < 0.008), together with significantly increased concentrations of apolipoproteins AI (p < 0.02), B (p < 0.0004), C-II (p < 0.0005) and C-III (p < 0.03). No changes were observed in the IDL fraction. CONCLUSIONS: There is an elevated prevalence of hyperlipidemia among the offspring of patients with familial combined hyperlipidemia. On the contrary to that observed in adults, no alterations of the IDL fraction are present among affected children.  相似文献
