Hydrogen is a potential green energy vector. Since the heating of the reforming processes commonly used for its production is obtained by burning hydrocarbons, it has a substantial CO2 footprint. One of the most critical aspects in the methane steam reforming (MSR) reaction is the heat transfer to the catalytic volume, due to the high heat fluxes required to obtain high methane conversions. Consequently, the reactor has complex geometries, along with the heating medium being characterized by temperatures higher than 1000 °C; expensive construction materials and high reaction volumes are therefore needed, resulting in slow thermal transients. These aspects increase the costs (both operative and fixed) as well as cause a decrease in the whole process efficiency. The heat transfer limitations due to the endothermicity of methane steam reforming reaction could be effectively overcome by microwave (MW) heating. This heating technique, that depends only on the dielectric properties of the materials, can result in an efficient and faster method for transferring heat directly to the catalyst, thus generating the heat directly inside the catalytic volume. In this work, Ni-based catalysts, differing from each other by the Ni loading (7 and 15 wt% with respect to the washcoat) were prepared. The catalysts were characterized by means of several techniques and tested in the MW-assisted methane steam reforming reaction. Furthermore, the energy balance of the entire process was performed to calculate the energy efficiency, making a preliminary evaluation of its feasibility in distributed hydrogen production also possible. The results of the preliminary tests showed that the prepared structured catalysts are very susceptible to the MW radiation, and that in the presence of the MSR reaction, it is possible to make the system reach a temperature of 900 °C. In the same tests, the CH4 conversion showed a good approach to the thermodynamic equilibrium values starting at temperatures of about 800 °C at a value of gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of about 5000 h?1. The energy efficiency of the lab-scale system, calculated as the ratio among the energy absorbed by the system and the energy supplied by the microwaves, was about 50%. Future studies will deal with the microwave reactor optimization, aiming at the increase of the energy efficiency of the system, as well as to obtain a higher CH4 conversion at lower temperatures and increase the H2 yield and selectivity.  相似文献

This paper describes an attempt to use the approach developed by the SQUIDproject, which was part of the ESPRIT 3 programme, to define the software quality requirements of the Telescience project. The SQUID project developed its approach to quality modelling in parallel with ongoing feedback from testing that approach on the Telescience project, which was both large and software intensive. As part of this exercise we used the ISO software quality standard ISO 9126. It was an assessment of this and other existing quality models that caused us to re-assess what was meant by a quality model and led to a decomposition of existing quality models into a composite model reflecting the different aspects of the model and its mapping onto a specific project or product. We break existing quality models into components which reflect the structure and content of the model. This composite model must then be customized for an individual product/project, we call this customized model a Product Quality Model. Application of this approach to the Telescience project identified a number of practical problems that the SQUID project needed to address. It also indicated a number of problems inherent in the current version of ISO 9126.  相似文献

Plasmonic biosensors have demonstrated superior performance in detecting various biomolecules with high sensitivity through simple assays. Scaled‐up, reproducible chip production with a high density of hotspots in a large area has been technically challenging, limiting the commercialization and clinical translation of these biosensors. A new fabrication method for 3D plasmonic nanostructures with a high density, large volume of hotspots and therefore inherently improved detection capabilities is developed. Specifically, Au nanoparticle‐spiked Au nanopillar arrays are prepared by utilizing enhanced surface diffusion of adsorbed Au atoms on a slippery Au nanopillar arrays through a simple vacuum process. This process enables the direct formation of a high density of spherical Au nanoparticles on the 1 nm‐thick dielectric coated Au nanopillar arrays without high‐temperature annealing, which results in multiple plasmonic coupling, and thereby large effective volume of hotspots in 3D spaces. The plasmonic nanostructures show signal enhancements over 8.3 × 108‐fold for surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy and over 2.7 × 102‐fold for plasmon‐enhanced fluorescence. The 3D plasmonic chip is used to detect avian influenza‐associated antibodies at 100 times higher sensitivity compared with unstructured Au substrates for plasmon‐enhanced fluorescence detection. Such a simple and scalable fabrication of highly sensitive 3D plasmonic nanostructures provides new opportunities to broaden plasmon‐enhanced sensing applications.  相似文献

In the search for nontoxic alternatives to lead‐halide perovskites, bismuth oxyiodide (BiOI) has emerged as a promising contender. BiOI is air‐stable for over three months, demonstrates promising early‐stage photovoltaic performance and, importantly, is predicted from calculations to tolerate vacancy and antisite defects. Here, whether BiOI tolerates point defects is experimentally investigated. BiOI thin films are annealed at a low temperature of 100 °C under vacuum (25 Pa absolute pressure). There is a relative reduction in the surface atomic fraction of iodine by over 40%, reduction in the surface bismuth fraction by over 5%, and an increase in the surface oxygen fraction by over 45%. Unexpectedly, the Bi 4f7/2 core level position, Fermi level position, and valence band density of states of BiOI are not significantly changed. Further, the charge‐carrier lifetime, photoluminescence intensity, and the performance of the vacuum‐annealed BiOI films in solar cells remain unchanged. The results show BiOI to be electronically and optoelectronically robust to percent‐level changes in surface composition. However, from photoinduced current transient spectroscopy measurements, it is found that the as‐grown BiOI films have deep traps located ≈0.3 and 0.6 eV from the band edge. These traps limit the charge‐carrier lifetimes of BiOI, and future improvements in the performance of BiOI photovoltaics will need to focus on identifying their origin. Nevertheless, these deep traps are three to four orders of magnitude less concentrated than the surface point defects induced through vacuum annealing. The charge‐carrier lifetimes of the BiOI films are also orders of magnitude longer than if these surface defects were recombination active. This work therefore shows BiOI to be robust against processing conditions that lead to percent‐level iodine‐, bismuth‐, and oxygen‐related surface defects. This will simplify and reduce the cost of fabricating BiOI‐based electronic devices, and stands in contrast to the defect‐sensitivity of traditional covalent semiconductors.  相似文献

Graphene oxide (GO) holds high promise for diagnostic and therapeutic applications in nanomedicine but reportedly displays immunotoxicity, underlining the need for developing functionalized GO with improved biocompatibility. This study describes adverse effects of GO and amino‐functionalized GO (GONH2) during Caenorhabditis elegans development and ageing upon acute or chronic exposure. Chronic GO treatment throughout the C. elegans development causes decreased fecundity and a reduction of animal size, while acute treatment does not lead to any measurable physiological decline. However, RNA‐Sequencing data reveal that acute GO exposure induces innate immune gene expression. The p38 MAP kinase, PMK‐1, which is a well‐established master regulator of innate immunity, protects C. elegans from chronic GO toxicity, as pmk‐1 mutants show reduced tissue‐functionality and facultative vivipary. In a direct comparison, GONH2 exposure does not cause detrimental effects in the wild type or in pmk‐1 mutants, and the innate immune response is considerably less pronounced. This work establishes enhanced biocompatibility of amino‐functionalized GO in a whole‐organism, emphasizing its potential as a biomedical nanomaterial.  相似文献

Research on entrepreneurial cognition (EC) has evolved in recent years, and the aim of this contribution is to offer a clear, systematic, and bibliometric review of EC as a field of study from a more dynamic perspective, building on Socially Situated Cognition theory (SSC). Based on a data set that covers 18 years of research, from 1998 to 2016, the present study analyzes all of the 151 papers available in the Web of Science Core Collection and 15 editorials, book chapters, and books directly referring to entrepreneurial cognition. Building on our results, we divided EC studies into two stages, namely the “emerging” (1998–2007) and the “mature” (2008–2016). In addition, with this study we suggest three main topics that should be investigated in future researches: entrepreneurial action should be considered endogenous in the entrepreneurship process and the studies in the field of embodied and distributed cognition should be expanded.  相似文献

Phosphate-based glasses have been attracting attention due to their possible medical applications arising from unique dissolution characteristics in the human body leading to the possibility of new tissue regeneration. In this study, the leaching kinetics of a series of melt-quenched Sr-doped phosphate glasses are presented. Regardless of the presence of Sr, all the glasses have an initial linear and sustained release of the ions followed by a plateau. To guarantee proper nutritional support to the growing tissue during regeneration and to mimic the 3-dimensional architecture of tissues, organic scaffold systems have been developed. However, their poor mechanical strength has limited their application. To overcome this problem, cross-linkers can be used although this then limits the solubility of the materials. To succeed in dealing with such a limitation, in this paper, by freeze-drying, the aforementioned soluble melt-quenched phosphate glasses were combined as powders with collagen fibres from bovine achilles tendon to make degradable scaffolds. The scaffolds were characterized by SEM, EDX and BET. Changes to the dissolution behaviour of the glasses arising from the presence of collagen interacting with the ions leached were reported. Furthermore, the ability of the scaffolds to induce hydroxyapatite (HA) formation was evaluated: one the elaborated scaffold could grow an HA-like layer after a week in SBF. Based on the results obtained, a possible application in restorative dentistry is proposed for one or more materials.  相似文献
