Growth and delta-endotoxin yield of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) subsp kurstaki in tryptic soy yeast extract (TSY) medium, soybean meal based commercial medium and wastewater sludge medium were studied. The viable spores (VS) count in sludge medium was comparable to that obtained in laboratory and commercial media. The entomotoxicity of the fermentation liquid (Bt grown sludge) against Choristoneura fumiferana was comparable to the concentrated commercial Bt formulation available in the market (Foray 48B). A higher entomotoxicity was observed in a sludge medium than in the TSY or soybean meal media. The secondary and mixed (mixture of primary and secondary) sludges from various wastewater treatment plants were also evaluated for spore formation and entomotoxicity yield. The VS count was higher in a mixed sludge compared to the secondary sludge at a similar sludge solids concentration. Both VS count and entomotoxicity yield was found to be a function of sludge solids concentration in the medium. The optimum value of solids concentration for Bt production was found to be 25 g (-1) (dry weight basis). Beyond this concentration, a drop in VS count and entomotoxicity yield was observed. A low C:N ratio in the secondary sludge and a high C:N ratio in the mixed sludge resulted in a higher entomotoxicity. The optimum value of C:N ratio in combined sludge for Bt production was found to be 7.9-9.9. Relationships between entomotoxicity and maximum specific growth as well as with specific sporulation rate were developed.  相似文献

The titled compound Al2(WO4)3 was synthesized by a conventional solid state reaction and characterized by powder XRD. It crystallizes in an orthorhombic (Pbcn, No. 60) lattice, with unit cell parameters as 12.582(2), 9.051(1), 9.128(2) Å, and V = 1039.5(3) (Å)3. The compound was found to show negative thermal expansion (NTE) behavior in the temperature range of 25 to 850°C. The average linear NTE coefficient (1), in this temperature range, was –1.5 × 10–6 K–1. The effect of pressure at ambient temperature, was studied by a Bridgman Anvil (BA) apparatus, to reveal that there is no irreversible phase transition up to 8 GPa. The effect of high pressure and high temperature on this compound was studied by a Toroid Anvil (TA) apparatus. This compound has a limited stability under high pressure and temperature, as it undergoes a decomposition to AlWO4 and WO3–x with a partial oxygen loss. As an off-shoot of this work, certain new modifications of WO3–x under pressure and temperature were observed, viz., monoclinic, tetragonal and an orthorhombic modifications at 5 GPa/1400°C, 3 GPa/900°C and 1.8 GPa/1030°C, respectively. In this paper, we consider the problem of providing multicast to mobile hosts using Mobile IP for network routing support. Providing multicast in an internetwork with mobile hosts is made difficult because many multicast protocols are inefficient when faced with frequent membership or location changes. This basic difficulty can be handled in a number of ways, but three main problems emerge with most solutions. The tunnel convergence problem, the duplication problem, and the scoping problem are identified in this paper and a set of solutions are proposed. The paper describes an architecture to support IP multicast for mobile hosts using Mobile IP. The basic unicast routing capability of Mobile IP is used to serve as the foundation for the design of a multicast service facility for mobile hosts. We believe that our scheme is transparent to higher layers, simple, flexible, robust, scalable, and, to the extent possible, independent of the underlying multicast routing facility. For example, our scheme could interoperate with DVMRP, MOSPF, CBT, or PIM in the current Internet. Where differences exist between the current version of IP (IPv4) and the next generation protocol (IPv6), these differences and any further optimizations are discussed. Effect of surface recombination on the transient decay of excess carriers injected very near to the surface region has been analysed for a semi-infinite semiconductor sample. The one dimensional continuity equation for the excess minority carriers has been solved analytically assuming that the surface recombination is important only on the front surface from which the excess carriers are injected. The decay of total excess carrier charge as a function of time is calculated for various values of the surface recombination velocities. It is found that values of S lower than 103 cm/sec. have little effect on the decay of total excess charge and the decay is exponential. For values of S larger than 104 cm/sec. the initial decay of excess charge is much faster and is dominated by the surface recombination. However, if one waits long enough for the excess carrier to diffuse into the semiconductor the decay becomes exponential when the excess charge decays to about 5% of its initial value. This exponential decay can be used to determine the excess carrier lifetime fairly accurately. A source of error in such experiments may arise from the heating of the silicon sample by the laser pulse. This effect, however is negligible for short duration pulses of low average power.  相似文献

The analysis of mass spectrometry data is still largely based on identification of single MS/MS spectra and does not attempt to make use of the extra information available in multiple MS/MS spectra from partially or completely overlapping peptides. Analysis of MS/MS spectra from multiple overlapping peptides opens up the possibility of assembling MS/MS spectra into entire proteins, similarly to the assembly of overlapping DNA reads into entire genomes. In this paper, we present for the first time a way to detect, score, and interpret overlaps between uninterpreted MS/MS spectra in an attempt to sequence entire proteins rather than individual peptides. We show that this approach not only extends the length of reconstructed amino acid sequences but also dramatically improves the quality of de novo peptide sequencing, even for low mass accuracy MS/MS data.  相似文献

Seven wastewater sludges of different origins and types were used as an alternate culture medium for producing Bacillus thuringiensis variety kurstaki HD-1. The sludge samples were used under three different preparations: without pre-treatment, with acid treatment (hydrolysed sludge) and the supernatant obtained after centrifugation of the hydrolysed sludge. The sludge composition varied widely with origin and the type of sludge. Growth and sporulation were evaluated by the total viable cell count and spore count of the preparations. Growth, sporulation and endotoxin production were affected by the sludge origin. Hydrolysed sludge gave the highest viable cell and spore counts while the liquid phase (supernatant) gave the lowest. Non-hydrolysed primary sludge from Valcartier was unable to sustain bacterial growth because of its low pH. Bioassays were conducted against larvae of spruce budworm to evaluate entomotoxic potential of the preparations obtained. In general, sludge hydrolysis increased the entomotoxicity yields. Similar entomotoxicity was observed in Black Lake secondary sludge (4100 IU/microL) as that obtained in the reference soya medium (3800 IU/microL). The use of the sludge supernatant (liquid phase) was not recommended due to the low entomotoxic potential obtained.  相似文献

This paper presents research that led to the design and implementation of fast and interactive collision detection methods that can be used to identify and report undesirable conflicts that occur among static (e.g., structure in-place, idle equipment), dynamic (e.g., active machines and workers), and abstract (e.g., hazard spaces) construction resources in 3D animations of construction operations modeled using discrete-event simulation. Computational efficiency and interactive speed in the designed interference detection methods were the primary challenges that the research addressed. In addition, the efficiency and speed were achieved with minimal trade-off against accuracy. In order to achieve this, the authors capitalized on advanced documented algorithms for proximity queries between arbitrarily moving 3D geometric objects to design mechanisms for interference detection, control, and response in construction process visualizations. The designed methods are implemented in a software tool called C-Collide that integrates as an add-on with the VITASCOPE visualization system.  相似文献

This paper describes research that investigated the application of the global positioning system and 3 degree-of-freedom (3-DOF) angular tracking to address the registration problem during interactive visualization of construction graphics in outdoor augmented reality (AR) environments. The global position and the three-dimensional (3D) orientation of a user’s viewpoint are tracked, and this information is reconciled with the known global position and orientation of superimposed computer-aided design (CAD) objects. Based on this computation, the relative translation and axial rotations between the user’s viewpoint and the CAD objects are continually calculated. The relative geometric transformations are then applied to the CAD objects inside a virtual viewing frustum that is coincided with the real world space that is in the user’s view. The result is an augmented outdoor environment where superimposed graphical objects stay fixed to their real world locations as the user navigates. The algorithms are implemented in a software tool called UM-AR-GPS-ROVER that is capable of interactively placing static and dynamic 3D models at any location in outdoor augmented space. The concept and prototype are demonstrated with an example in which scheduled construction activities for the erection of a structural steel frame are graphically simulated in outdoor AR.  相似文献

This paper discusses the feasibility of using augmented reality (AR) to evaluate earthquake-induced building damage. In the proposed approach, previously stored building information is superimposed onto a real structure in AR. Structural damage can then be quantified by measuring and interpreting key differences between the real and augmented views of the facility. Proof-of-concept experiments were performed in conjunction with large-scale cyclic shear wall tests. In these, CAD images of the walls were superimposed onto the wall specimens. Then, as the wall specimens were deformed under applied loading, the horizontal drifts between the walls and the augmented images were computed using two different techniques and compared with actual wall drifts. The obtained results highlight the potential of using AR for rapid damage detection and indicate that the accuracy of structural displacements measured using AR is a direct function of the accuracy with which augmented images can be registered with the real world. The limitations of the technology, considerations for field implementation, and the potential for other related applications of AR are also discussed.  相似文献

Parallel architectures involve communication with the aim of fast receiving of complete information at each node. Several architectures have been proposed to overcome the problem of high communicational and computational time complexity for transferring and receiving information. To reduce the complexity of such communication, we have implemented Linear Network Coding (LNC) in the parallel environment. For verification of our approach, we have considered some parallel architecture for implementing network coding approach and examined our results on these networks in a generic environment. We have formulated a standard approach for parallel networks, showing that by applying this approach effect of faulty nodes, information size and communication complexity exponentially decreases with code length.  相似文献
