This paper presents theoretical and experimental developments for the implementation of surface acoustic waves (SAW) sensors able to detect small concentrations of anhydride fluorhydric (HF) acid in air. Solutions based on the use of surface transverse waves (STW) on quartz (YXlt)/36 degrees/90 degrees have been analyzed to evaluate their sensitivity to HF. Devices have been tested first in a NH4F solution to evaluate the kinetics of the reaction. Measurements then were performed under various gaseous conditions to characterize the sensors when they are submitted to different controlled dilutions of HF in air. STW resonators have been successfully tested in different conditions, with capabilities to detect HF concentration much smaller than 1 ppm.  相似文献

Object To evaluate the feasibility of mouse spinal cord MR imaging using echo-planar imaging (EPI). Materials and methods Optimized multi-shot spin-echo-EPI sequences were compared to conventional spin-echo (c-SE) at 11.75 T and used for high-spatially resolved acquisitions and relaxation-time measurements. Results Good quality images were obtained, with clear delineation of gray and white matter. Acquisition-time gain factor was up to 6 (vs. c-SE) and resolution up to 74 × 94 μm2 was achieved. T 1 and T 2 relaxation times were reliably measured. Conclusion High-temporally and spatially resolved mouse spinal cord EPI imaging is feasible. This technique should greatly benefit to long acquisition-time experiments (diffusion imaging) and imaging of rapidly-evolving pathologies. V. Callot and G. In this work, step-index 40/125 μm diameter optical fibers produced from two slightly different lithium phosphate glasses were subjected to mechanical characterization. Tensile tests were carried out on fibers with gage length from 10 to 150 mm, allowing for the determination of the failure stress (ranging from ≈200 to 400 MPa) and the elastic modulus (60 GPa). Some tests were also performed with the fiber “immersed” in water; an important subcritical crack growth effect was pointed out, and a fatigue susceptibility parameter (n) equal to 11.4 was determined. The analysis of fracture mirror allows an estimated fracture toughness equal to 0.5 MPa m0.5.  相似文献

We report on the results of an experimental study established to optimize the design of microfabricated flow distributors for use in pressure-driven separations and reactions in flat-rectangular channels. For this purpose, the performance of a wide variety of possible flow distributor designs etched in glass/silicon wafers was compared, using CCD camera detection to study the shape and variance of the bands eluting from them. The best performance was obtained with radially interconnected distributors with a diverging inlet section and filled with diamond-shaped pillars, oriented perpendicular to the main flow direction and with a high transversal over axial aspect ratio. It was found that the best distributor designs start with a diverging section containing some 10-12 subsequent rows of high aspect ratio pillars (with a transversal width making up 10-15% of the final channel width) and with a divergence angle selected such that the sloped side-walls run parallel with the sides of the diamond-shaped pillars. After this zone, one or more regions with pillars with a smaller aspect ratio should be provided to increase the number of exit points. To prevent the formation of dead zones in these subsequent zones, so-called distributor wedges can be used to prevent the formation of any dead zones in the wake of the large aspect ratio pillars of the preceding section.  相似文献

On several paintings by artists of the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th Century a darkening of the original yellow areas, painted with the chrome yellow pigment (PbCrO(4), PbCrO(4)·xPbSO(4), or PbCrO(4)·xPbO) is observed. The most famous of these are the various Sunflowers paintings Vincent van Gogh made during his career. In the first part of this work, we attempt to elucidate the degradation process of chrome yellow by studying artificially aged model samples. In view of the very thin (1-3 μm) alteration layers that are formed, high lateral resolution spectroscopic methods such as microscopic X-ray absorption near edge (μ-XANES), X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (μ-XRF), and electron energy loss spectrometry (EELS) were employed. Some of these use synchrotron radiation (SR). Additionally, microscopic SR X-ray diffraction (SR μ-XRD), μ-Raman, and mid-FTIR spectroscopy were employed to completely characterize the samples. The formation of Cr(III) compounds at the surface of the chrome yellow paint layers is particularly observed in one aged model sample taken from a historic paint tube (ca. 1914). About two-thirds of the chromium that is present at the surface has reduced from the hexavalent to the trivalent state. The EELS and μ-XANES spectra are consistent with the presence of Cr(2)O(3)·2H(2)O (viridian). Moreover, as demonstrated by μ-XANES, the presence of another Cr(III) compound, such as either Cr(2)(SO(4))(3)·H(2)O or (CH(3)CO(2))(7)Cr(3)(OH)(2) [chromium(III) acetate hydroxide], is likely.  相似文献

The darkening of the original yellow areas painted with the chrome yellow pigment (PbCrO(4), PbCrO(4)·xPbSO(4), or PbCrO(4)·xPbO) is a phenomenon widely observed on several paintings by Vincent van Gogh, such as the famous different versions of Sunflowers. During our previous investigations on artificially aged model samples of lead chromate, we established for the first time that darkening of chrome yellow is caused by reduction of PbCrO(4) to Cr(2)O(3)·2H(2)O (viridian green), likely accompanied by the presence of another Cr(III) compound, such as either Cr(2)(SO(4))(3)·H(2)O or (CH(3)CO(2))(7)Cr(3)(OH)(2) [chromium(III) acetate hydroxide]. In the second part of this work, in order to demonstrate that this reduction phenomenon effectively takes place in real paintings, we study original paint samples from two paintings of V. van Gogh. As with the model samples, in view of the thin superficial alteration layers that are present, high lateral resolution spectroscopic methods that make use of synchrotron radiation (SR), such as microscopic X-ray absorption near edge (μ-XANES) and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (μ-XRF) were employed. Additionally, μ-Raman and mid-FTIR analyses were carried out to completely characterize the samples. On both paint microsamples, the local presence of reduced Cr was demonstrated by means of μ-XANES point measurements. The presence of Cr(III) was revealed in specific areas, in some cases correlated to the presence of Ba(sulfate) and/or to that of aluminum silicate compounds.  相似文献

Due to possible presence and spread of contagious animal viruses via natural sausage casings the international trade in these food products is subject to veterinary and public health requirements. In order to manage these restrictions we determined the effect of casing preservation on four highly contagious viruses for livestock: foot-and-mouth-disease virus (FMDV), classical swine fever virus (CSFV), swine vesicular disease virus (SVDV) and African swine fever virus (ASFV). We used an in vitro 3D collagen matrix model in which cells, infected with the four different viruses were embedded in a bovine collagen type I gel matrix and treated with either saturated salt (NaCl) or phosphate supplemented saturated salt at four different temperatures (4, 12, 20 and 25 °C) during a period of 30 days. The results showed that all viruses were faster inactivated at higher temperatures, but that stability of the various viruses at 4 °C differed. Inactivation of FMDV in the 3D collagen matrix model showed a clear temperature and treatment effect on the reduction of FMDV titres. At 4 and 12 °C phosphate supplemented salt showed a very strong FMDV inactivation during the first hour of incubation. Salt (NaCl) only had a minor effect on FMDV inactivation. Phosphate supplemented salt treatment increased the effect temperature had on inactivation of CSFV. In contrast, the salt (NaCl) treatment only increased CSFV inactivation at the higher temperatures (20 °C and 25 °C). Also SVDV inactivation was increased by phosphate supplemented salt, but salt (NaCl) treatment only resulted in a significant decrease of SVDV titre at a few time points. The ASFV results showed that both salt (NaCl) and phosphate supplemented salt were capable to inactivate ASFV within 48 h. In contrast to the other viruses (FMDV, CSFV and SVDV), ASFV was the most stable virus even at higher temperatures. The results obtained in this in vitro model underline the efficacy of a combined treatment using phosphate supplemented salt and storage at 20 °C or higher for a period of 30 days. This treatment may therefore be useful in reducing the animal health risks posed by spread of contagious animal viruses by international trade of natural sausage casings.  相似文献

By means of the continuity equation of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, additional physical arguments for the derivation of a formulation of the no-slip boundary condition for the lattice Boltzmann method for straight walls at rest are obtained. This leads to a boundary condition that is second-order accurate with respect to the grid spacing and conserves mass. In addition, the boundary condition is stable for relaxation frequencies close to two.  相似文献

In recent years, as a result of both environmental policy and industrial economic strategy, the amount of asphalt pavement that has been recycled has risen dramatically. As a result of this, several international research projects have shown the need for improvements in reclaimed asphalt (RA) characterisation to support these higher recycling rates. During the life of a pavement, as well as the structural damage induced by traffic, the intrinsic properties of asphaltic materials are affected through the oxidative ageing of the bituminous binder. The molecular changes associated with this oxidation can be monitored via variations in Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra. Therefore, if the relationships between binder properties, such as penetration, softening point and complex shear modulus and the spectra parameters can be established, the characterisation of RA produced by the milling of old pavements can be greatly improved. However, the interpretation of oxidation parameters from these spectra is not straightforward, and many different techniques are used to calculate them in the asphalt community. This paper gives a brief overview of asphalt oxidation and the FTIR principle. It then presents the results from four different calculation methods for the oxidation parameters applied to a set of more than 100 spectra obtained during the RILEM TC-ATB-TG5 round robin test. From this study, it is obvious that the conclusions of the analysis performed on the same set of raw spectra can differ considerably according to the FTIR oxidation index calculation method adopted. Using the RILEM database, the potential links between a given ageing index and the physical properties are then evaluated. As a result of this study it can be concluded that ageing comparison through FTIR should be considered as relative and restricted for use in measurements at different ageing steps on the same type of initial mixture. For FTIR spectra to be comparable between different laboratories, harmonisation of the data acquisition procedures is needed. Also the different calculation methods of the oxidation indicators seem to reflect different physical properties. So a first step toward harmonisation would be to agree on the relevant physical properties actually needed for efficient RA characterisation. This could then lead to a common FTIR index calculation method, which would reflect the properties of interest. For this, additional research is needed to improve knowledge of the relationship between the chemical oxidative process of a binder and the evolution of its physical properties.  相似文献
