Requirements for metrologic support to time measurements in geodynamics

Study of a combined millimeter-wave resonator

We present a theoretical investigation and measurements of a multielement open resonator composed of corrugated waveguides and plane semitransparent reflectors. A periodic-transmission-line model is used to analyze the transverse mode structure and the diffraction Q-factor of the proposed resonator. The setup containing the resonator (equipped with Bragg reflectors), mode converters, and an elliptical mirror is employed for measurements in Ka-band. Two- and three-waveguide-section resonators have been studied. The proposed resonators demonstrate good mode selectivity that permits one to utilize them in high-power millimeter-wave sources     

Recognition of liquid and flesh food using an `electronic tongue'

An electronic tongue comprising thirty potentiometric chemical sensors and pattern recognition tools for data processing was used for the analysis of mineral waters, coffee, soft drinks and flesh food, namely fish. The electronic tongue appeared to be capable of distinguishing between different sorts of beverages: natural and artificial mineral waters, individual and commercial brands of coffee, and commercial and experimental samples of soft drinks containing different sweeteners. A quantitative correlation between human perception and `electronic tongue' output was obtained. Taste parameter assessments produced by a professional taste panel was used for `electronic tongue' calibration. It was found that the `electronic tongue' is capable of distinguishing sea water and freshwater fish and monitoring their spoilage.     

Dynamic calibration of contact thermometers in a liquid stream

Results are presented for the dynamic calibration of temperature converters in a liquid stream using thermal heterogeneities produced in the water by pulses of infrared radiation of a neodymium laser.     

Evaporation of bubble aerosol droplets from solid substrates
