The mass loadings of quinones and their ability to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) were investigated in total suspended particulate samples collected in Fresno, CA, over a 12-month period. Particles were collected on Teflon filters and were analyzed for the presence of 12 quinones containing one to four aromatic rings by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry. Measured levels are generally greater than mass loadings reported at other locations. The mass loadings were highest during winter months and were strongly anticorrelated with temperature. ROS generation was investigated by measuring the rate of hydrogen peroxide production from the reaction of laboratory standards and ambient samples with dithiothreitol (DTT). ROS generation from ambient samples shows a strong positive correlation with the mass loadings of the three most reactive quinones and may account for all of the ROS formed in the DTT test.  相似文献

This study demonstrates that functionalized, highly porous polymers are promising for the adsorptive capture of boric acid, a neutral contaminant that is difficult to remove from seawater using conventional reverse osmosis membranes. Appending N‐methyl‐d‐glucamine (NMDG) to the pore walls of high‐surface‐area porous aromatic frameworks (PAFs) yields the adsorbents PAF‐1‐NMDG and P2‐NMDG in a simple two‐step synthesis. The boron‐selective PAFs demonstrate adsorption capacities that are up to 70% higher than those of a commercial boron‐selective resin, Amberlite IRA743, and markedly faster adsorption rates, owing to their higher NMDG loadings and greater porosities relative to the resin. Remarkably, PAF‐1‐NMDG is able to reduce the boron concentration in synthetic seawater from 2.91 to <0.5 ppm in less than 3 min at an adsorbent loading of only 0.3 mg mL?1. The boron adsorption rate constants of both frameworks, determined via a pseudo‐second‐order rate model, represent the highest values reported in the literature—in most cases orders of magnitude higher than those of other boron‐selective adsorbents. The frameworks can also be readily regenerated via mild acid/base treatment and maintain constant boron adsorption capacities for at least 10 regeneration cycles. These results highlight the numerous advantages of PAFs over traditional porous polymers in water treatment applications.  相似文献

Only a very limited amount of the high theoretical energy density of LiCoO2 as a cathode material has been realized, due to its irreversible deterioration when more than 0.6 mol of lithium ions are extracted. In this study, new insights into the origin of such low electrochemical reversibility, namely the structural collapse caused by electrostatic repulsion between oxygen ions during the charge process are suggested. By incorporating the partial cation migration of LiNiO2, which produces a screen effect of cations in the 3b‐Li site, the phase distortion of LiCoO2 is successfully delayed which in turn expands its electrochemical reversibility. This study elucidates the relationship between the structural reversibility and electrochemical behavior of layered cathode materials and enables new design of Co‐rich layered materials for cathodes with high energy density.  相似文献

It is very challenging to accurately quantify the amounts of amyloid peptides Aβ40 and Aβ42, which are Alzheimer's disease (AD) biomarkers, in blood owing to their low levels. This has driven the development of sensitive and noninvasive sensing methods for the early diagnosis of AD. Here, an approach for the synthesis of Ag nanogap shells (AgNGSs) is reported as surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) colloidal nanoprobes for the sensitive, selective, and multiplexed detection of Aβ40 and Aβ42 in blood. Raman label chemicals used for SERS signal generation modulate the reaction rate for AgNGSs production through the formation of an Ag‐thiolate lamella structure, enabling the control of nanogaps at one nanometer resolution. The AgNGSs embedded with the Raman label chemicals emit their unique SERS signals with a huge intensity enhancement of up to 107 and long‐term stability. The AgNGS nanoprobes, conjugated with an antibody specific to Aβ40 or Aβ42, are able to detect these AD biomarkers in a multiplexed manner in human serum based on the AgNGS SERS signals. Detection is possible for amounts as low as 0.25 pg mL?1. The AgNGS nanoprobe‐based sandwich assay has a detection dynamic range two orders of magnitude wider than that of a conventional enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay.  相似文献

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) comprises a range of chronic inflammatory conditions of the intestinal tract. The incidence and prevalence of IBDs are increasing worldwide, but the precise etiology of these diseases is not completely understood. Calcium signaling plays a regulatory role in cellular proliferation. Nckx3, a potassium-dependent Na+/Ca2+ exchanger, is not only expressed in the brain but also in the aortic, uterine, and intestinal tissues, which contain abundant smooth muscle cells. This study investigated the role of Nckx3 in intestinal inflammation. Microarray analyses revealed the upregulation of the innate immune response-associated genes in the duodenum of Nckx3 knockout (KO) mice. The Nckx3 KO mice also showed an increase in IBD- and tumorigenesis-related genes. Using dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced experimental colitis mice models, the Nckx3 KO mice showed severe colitis. Furthermore, the pathways involving p53 and NF-κB signaling were significantly upregulated by the absence of Nckx3. Overall, Nckx3 plays a critical role in the innate immune and immune response and may be central to the pathogenesis of IBD.  相似文献

The content analysis of radioactive waste and radiation dose evaluation is considered as one of the important factors in the reactor facility design.This kind of buildings consists of the concrete for the most part and uses it as the structure and shield of the building.Generally,the concrete has impurities such as cobalt,europium,nickel,and cesium with specific content depending on the production method or manufacturing company.Dominant radioactive nuclides generated from the fundamental components of concrete are considered that it is less contributed to the radiation dose because they are beta decay nuclides in general.Thus,impurities of irradiated concrete in the reactor facilities,are considered occasionally an important evaluation factor for induced activity.In this study,the influence on the activation of impurities in concrete was evaluated from the radiation dose and induced activity calculations.The calculation was evaluated at the bio-shield which is one of the areas with the highest neutron irradiation among the concrete structure in the reactor facility.The results show that radioactive nuclides with gamma decay were produced in these impurities.Moreover,the radiation dose of concrete with impurities was higher than concrete without impurities.The increased radiation dose was quantified through the content of impurities.  相似文献

The breakdown and voltage-time characteristics of turn-to-turn models for point contact geometry and surface contact geometry using copper multiwrapped with polyimide film for a high-temperature superconducting transformer were investigated under ac and impulse voltage at 77 K. Polyimide film (Kapton) 0.025 mm thick is used for multiwrapping of the electrode. As expected, the breakdown voltages for the surface contact geometry are lower than that of the point contact geometry, because the contact area of the surface contact geometry is lager than that of the point contact geometry. The time to breakdown t 50decreases as the applied voltage is increased, and the lifetime indexes increase slightly as the number of layers is increased. The electric field amplitude at the position where breakdown occurs is about 80% of the maximum electric field value.  相似文献

A miniaturized frit inlet asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation (mFI-AFlFFF) channel has been constructed and tested for the separation of proteins. By scaling down the geometrical channel dimension of a conventional FI-AFlFFF system, flow rate ranges that can be manipulated were decreased to 20-30 microL/min, which reduces the injection amount of sample materials. The end effect contribution to plate height was evaluated by varying the inner diameter of the connection tubing between the injector and the channel inlet at various injection flow rates, and the results showed that the use of silica capillary tubing of the shortest possible distance is essential in reducing the initial band broadening prior to the sample injection to the microscale channel. The capability of the microFI-AFlFFF system was demonstrated with the separation of protein standards, polystyrenesulfonates, and ssDNA strains and for the characterization of replication protein A-ssDNA binding complex regulated by redox status.  相似文献

This paper demonstrates and characterizes a novel wavelength-tunable single-frequency erbium-doped fiber ring laser incorporating an all-fiber acoustooptic tunable bandpass filter and a self-constructed saturable absorption grating (SAG). Stable single-longitudinal-mode operation was achieved over the wavelength range of 48 nm with a sidemode suppression ratio higher than 50 dB. The wavelength tuning characteristics, and the laser dynamics in wavelength switching and sweeping are analyzed in detail. A theoretical analysis on the effect of the SAG is also described.  相似文献

In vertically overlaid cellular systems, a temporary traffic concentration can occur in a hot‐spot area, and this adversely affects overall system capacity. In this paper, we develop an adaptive hot‐spot operating scheme (AHOS) to mitigate the negative effects from the nonuniform distribution of user location and the variation in the mixture of QoS requirements in orthogonal frequency division multiple access downlink systems. Here, the base station in a macrocell can control the operation of picocells within the cell, and turns them on or off according to the system overload estimation function. In order to determine whether the set of picocells is turned on or off, we define an AHOS gain index that describes the number of subcarriers saved to the macrocell by turning a specific picocell on. For initiating the picocell OFF procedure, we utilize the changes in traffic concentration and co‐channel interference to the neighboring cells. According to computer simulation, the AHOS has been proved to have maximize system throughput while maintaining a very low QoS outage probability under various system scenarios in both a single‐cell and multi‐cell environments.  相似文献
