There has been an increasing prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases with the rapid increase in aging societies worldwide. Biomarkers that can be used to detect pathological changes before the development of severe neuronal loss and consequently facilitate early intervention with disease-modifying therapeutic modalities are therefore urgently needed. Diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a promising tool that can be used to infer microstructural characteristics of the brain, such as microstructural integrity and complexity, as well as axonal density, order, and myelination, through the utilization of water molecules that are diffused within the tissue, with displacement at the micron scale. Diffusion tensor imaging is the most commonly used diffusion MRI technique to assess the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative diseases. However, diffusion tensor imaging has several limitations, and new technologies, including neurite orientation dispersion and density imaging, diffusion kurtosis imaging, and free-water imaging, have been recently developed as approaches to overcome these constraints. This review provides an overview of these technologies and their potential as biomarkers for the early diagnosis and disease progression of major neurodegenerative diseases.  相似文献

Using multi-anvil high-pressure devices and synchrotron radiation, X-ray in situ observations of HfO2 under high pressure and high temperature have been performed to investigate its phase relations and compression behavior. An orthorhombic phase (orthoI) is stable from 4 to 14.5 GPa below 1250°–1400°C and transforms to a tetragonal phase, which is one of the high-temperature forms of HfO2, above these temperatures. Another orthorhombic phase (orthoII) with a cotunnite-type structure appears above 14.5 GPa. OrthoII is stable up to 1800°C at 21 GPa. OrthoII is quenchable to ambient conditions. The orthoI-to-orthoII transition is accompanied by ∼8 vol% decrease. The bulk moduli of orthoI and orthoII at room temperature are 220 and 312 GPa, respectively. This low compressibility of orthoII indicates that it is a potential candidate for very hard materials.  相似文献

The partnership in the CrematogasterMacaranga ant–plant interaction is highly species-specific. Because a mutualistic relationship on a Macaranga plant starts with colonization by a foundress queen of a partner Crematogaster species, we hypothesized that the foundress queens select their partner plant species by chemical recognition. We tested this hypothesis with four sympatric Macaranga species and their Crematogaster plant-ant species. We demonstrated that foundress Crematogaster queens can recognize their partner Macaranga species by contact with the surface of the seedlings, that they can recognize compounds from the stem surface of seedlings of their partner plant species, and that the gas chromatographic profiles are characteristic of the plant species. These findings support the hypothesis that foundress queens of the Crematogaster plant-ant species select their partner Macaranga species by recognizing nonvolatile chemical characteristics of the stem surfaces of seedlings.  相似文献

A visualizing technique for indentation damage of ceramics was developed. Plasma etching was used to enhance the view of cracks and the subsurface microcracking crush zone following Knoop indentation of hot pressed Si3N4. The microcracking zone was readily identified from the surface view of the indented surface as a grain-falling-off region (GFOR), defined as a region in which grains were removed by preferential etching using CF4 gas, followed by ultrasonic cleaning. A fissure-like opening corresponding to the indentation cracks was also observed. It is inferred that the formation of the GFOR region and the fissure-like opening were caused by the etching/cleaning treatment. Meanwhile, the etching on a section which included diagonals of the impression provided a section view of the microcracking zone.  相似文献

Thermal polycondensation of the potassium salt of N‐methylchloroacetyl‐6‐aminohexanoic acid (LAHK) was found to be effective in the preparation of a new poly(ester amide) based on lactic acid units with a high yield and a moderate molecular weight. The reaction started in the solid state and proceeded through the formation of potassium chloride salt as the driving force. The use of a monomer having an amide linkage diminished the secondary reactions previously found in the synthesis of polylactide from 2‐halogenopropionates. The polymerization of potassium salt of N‐chloroacetyl‐6‐aminohexanoic acid (GAHK) took place in a similar temperature range as that of the 2‐chloropropionyl derivative; in this way, it was possible to conduct the copolymerization processes. The polymerization kinetics of LAHK and its mixture with GAHK was studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The bulk polycondensation reaction was faster for GAHK than for LAHK, but the kinetic differences were not significant enough to prevent copolymerization at a temperature close to 160°C. Therefore, new degradable materials with tuned properties according to the glycolic acid/lactic acid content were obtained. 1H‐NMR spectroscopy was useful for following the time evolution of the copolymerization process and for determining the final composition. Calorimetric data showed that all of the samples were thermally stable and that decreases in the melting temperature and enthalpy were observed at intermediate compositions. The existence of an eutectic point became proof that effective copolymerization was achieved in the thermal polycondensation process. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Nylon 6‐clay hybrid/neat nylon 6, sheath/core bicomponent nanocomposite fibers containing 4 wt % of clay in sheath section, were melt spun at different take‐up speeds. Their molecular orientation and crystalline structure were compared to those of neat nylon 6 fibers. Moreover, the morphology of the bicomponent fibers and dispersion of clay within the fibers were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), respectively. Birefringence measurements showed that the orientation development in sheath part was reasonably high while core part showed negligibly low birefringence. Results of differential scanning calorimetry showed that crystallinity of bicomponent fibers was lower than that of neat nylon 6 fibers. The peaks of γ‐crystalline form were observed in the wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction of bicomponent and neat nylon 6 fibers in the whole take‐up speed, while α‐crystalline form started to appear at high speeds in bicomponent fibers. TEM micrographs revealed that the clay platelets were individually and evenly dispersed in the nylon 6 matrix. The neat nylon 6 fibers had a smooth surface while striped pattern was observed on the surface of bicomponent fibers containing clay. This was speculated to be due to thermal shrinkage of the core part after solidification of the sheath part in the spin‐line. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Carbonization properties of a Ql-free coal-tar pitch (CTP-ASM) prepared by selective precipitation were studied to evaluate it as a source for needle-coke. Its modifying ability for production of needlecoke in co-carbonizations with principal carbonizing substances which gave cokes of mozaic texture in single carbonizations was estimated by changing mixing ratios. The shape and size of the anisotropic optical texture in the co-carbonized coke were measured by point counting. CTP-ASM and Ashland A240, of eight additives, had the highest modifying ability in the co-carbonizations with Khafji vacuum residue. Both contained ca. 6% benzene-insolubles (Bl), and had fa values of ≈0.9. Other additives of either lower or higher Bl or fa showed less modifying ability. The modifying susceptibility of principal carbonizing substances varies with their structure and properties. Based on a systematic investigation of co-carbonizations the compatibility between a principal carbonizing substance and an additive is discussed from a viewpoint of their structural parameters.  相似文献

The pseudocapacitance of nanocrystalline RuO2 with BET surface area of 42 m2 g−1 was evaluated using a RuO2 modified Glassy Carbon (RuO2/GC) thin film electrode. The charge storage behavior of the RuO2/GC thin film electrode was studied from fast to slow scan cyclic voltammetry between various potential windows. The utilization of the thin film electrode method for nanocrystalline RuO2 with known specific surface area allowed a semi-quantitative understanding of the electric double-layer capacitance (Cdl), adsorption related charge (Cad), and the irreversible redox related charge (Cirr) per unit mass and surface area of RuO2. Comparison of the cyclic voltammograms between different voltage windows revealed that the contribution from Cirr is especially dominant below 0.4 V (versus RHE) at slow scan rates.  相似文献

The clean Cu(1 0 0) surface and Pt/Cu(1 0 0) surface by Pt deposition at room temperature have been investigated using the computer simulation of coaxial impact-collision ion scattering spectroscopy (CAICISS). The computer simulations employing the ACOCT program code, which treats the atomic collisions three-dimensionally and is based on the binary collision approximation (BCA), were carried out for the case of 3 keV He+ ions incident along the 〈1 0 0〉 and 〈1 1 0〉 azimuths of the clean Cu(1 0 0) and Pt/Cu(1 0 0) surfaces. The comparisons between ACOCT results and experimental CAICISS data show that the experimental results on the clean Cu(1 0 0) surface are relatively well reproduced by the ACOCT simulations including the inward relaxation of 1.2% in the first interlayer spacing and the outward relaxation of 1.6% in the second interlayer spacing, and that the ACOCT simulations for the Pt deposition with coverages of 2.35 ML and 2.75 ML on the Cu(1 0 0) surface appear the concentrations of 0.24 ML of Pt sitting 2.3 Å and 0.25 ML of Pt sitting 2.5 Å above the outermost atomic layer, respectively.  相似文献
